Beautiful hotel with a wonderful Irish pub attached to the hotel. Yes, it's old, hello...it's housed in an old building, but to me, that just adds to the charm! It is right downtown, so within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and other businesses. Maybe the girl at the front desk wouldn't win Miss Congeniality, but we had no problems with her. She just obviously is not into her job. This is a beautiful, historic building, and frankly much less expensive than the motel we first checked into. Even though we had already paid at the Maple Leaf Motel, this hotel was much, much better, and the Irish pub attached is a definite plus! Pros: - pretty views of the square - comfortable beds! - close to everything downtown - beautiful, historic building (rooms very basic, but spacious) - Irish pub attached Cons: - no coffee maker in the room and continental breakfast is not available until 8:30 am. No coffee offered in the lobby either. - needs soundproofing! We could hear a child running back and forth across the floor above us for about a half hour after we went to bed. - the rooms/furniture really need updating. - front desk staff not welcoming. read more

Issues with this hotel: The front desk for the most part is not staffed, so you have to check in through the attached pub and have no way to resolve issues.   We booked and paid for two rooms at Hotel Bedford on HotelsOne in January.  When we checked in to our rooms in early June, an additional fee was added to our credit card which we assumed was a security deposit.  After the charge was not removed prior to posting to our card we contacted the hotel and were told they had no record of being paid by HotelsOne so therefore would not refund us. Since then we contacted HotelsOne and they said that they had in fact paid Hotel Bedford and that they would contact them on our behalf which they did.  They called us back and told us to email the general manager of Hotel Bedford with a copy of our credit card statement showing that we had paid for the rooms through HotelsOne and an additional amount at check in.  They have never responded to this.  We have emailed and called and left messages several times since, but have never been able to reach the GM and no one has called us back.   The hotel itself is very dated and in bad condition (mould in the shower, electrical outlets are so old that when you plug into them the cord falls out again). Our golf league has be staying at the bedford for a golf weekend in August for about 20 years. All was good until about 3 years ago when the ownership changed. Booking mistakes were made, the hotel became run down, staff not friendly and rooms were rarely or never cleaned during our stay, this year we booked rooms for about 17 people with stays varying from from 2 nights to 3 and 4 nights. upon checking in most room assignments were wrong and lengths of stay were wrong and most rooms were double booked. Our weekend golf tournament was cut short and most had to vacate there room and go home early. As a group we have spent thousands of dollars at the hotel, restaurnat and bar, but the staff did not seem to care. They were more interested in us leaving and their double booked guests paying more money. The ownership at The Bedford should probably look for a new business adventure that does not require "Customer Service". We will definately be looking for a new golf venue for next year. it it sad because Goderich is a very beutiful town to stay in and places like the Bedford leave a bad taste. read more

Pros: Great location, especially for a wedding next door at "The Livery" Friendly staff Restaurant on site Our room had a comfortable bed, and a *huge* bathroom The price is right Cons: Rooms and hallways had a musty/damp odour (likely due to the age of the hotel) Room sizes can fluctuate considerably (family members in other rooms had tiny rooms and tiny bathrooms) Linens leave a lot to be desires - both towels were thin, small, and in one case coming apart at the edges A perfectly serviceable hotel, that was perfect for what we needed it to be. read more

Stayed at the Bedford last night... We were happy that the room was very clean but overall, not that impressed. We would consider staying here again if the staff was nicer, but the woman at the front desk was snippy and not very friendly. Pros: great location, clean room, free parking, good coffee, reasonable price. Cons: rooms really need updating, poor breakfast options (just white bagels), not very friendly staff. read more

I made a reservation for this past wknd., 4 months ago. The hotel phoned me on Friday to say that they were going to put my friend & I in two separate rooms as they needed the double room for other guests, which was fine. Also, they didn't have room for us on Saturday night because they over booked but they'd be willing to put us up in a motel out of town at no charge. Since we needed two beds & they couldn't give us that, I declined. On Saturday, they called to say that since they didn't have room for us, where would we like them to leave our belongings? This was while we were hiking 29km on the Maitland Trail, an annual two day event, in very hot & humid conditions. Again, I declined. The hotel never once came across as though we a choice in the matter & in fact, I felt bullied by them. Did they think that because we were just hikers & two women that they could push us out? I made this reservation 4 months ago. Why did they single my friend & I out? Getting a phone call like this during the hike was very stressful. It put a damper on the whole wknd.
