I just went to Harmony Salon for the first time tonight, and I had such a phenomenal experience there, thanks in large part to Amanda! I have never colored my hair before, and wanted to try a balayage for the first time. Amanda listened to what I was thinking at the start of the session and was able to pinpoint exactly the amount of color I was looking for, after identifying a few examples of styles that I liked. Yay! So glad I found this place. I always have such a hard time finding a salon I am willing to commit to and its usually because I don't leave with what I asked for, I feel the services were overpriced or I have to wait too long for an appointment. I have searched Yelp high and low looking for a place with good reviews for coloring. I actually resorted to Instagram because I think its a great tool for stylists to use to market their work. So I found Amanda's account and loved the work she posted. I actually went to high school with her! Small world! - Anyway, I booked my appointment for a Saturday morning and showed up right on time. The place is SO pretty inside and it has recently been redone. Very chic and neutral and glamorous. The front desk receptionist was friendly and offered me coffee or water upon my arrival. Amanda popped up shortly to take me back. We discussed what I wanted to do and what my ultimate hair goal was and she gave me her opinion and feedback before getting to work! For my first visit, she used a balayage technique to highlight my hair and lift the black (box) color then put a chocolatey brown toner on the pieces. It was exactly the color I had imagined, but it wasn't as noticeable as I would have hoped. I appreciated that Amanda went easy and subtle for my first visit as she knew I was weary of change. I messaged her a few days later asking if I could schedule another appointment to add some more to what she had already done. I had an appointment a couple days later after work and in less than 2 hours I left totally obsessed with my hair. I was given exactly what I asked for and she even cleaned up my trim a little just to even my ends out. Pricing was extremely reasonable and I didn't feel uncomfortable asking Amanda questions about what she was doing or letting her know exactly what I wanted. I have gotten so many compliments on my color and even my dad has mentioned quite a few times how much he likes it! I highly recommend Harmony. Everyone here is super nice and polite. It's a young and mature staff, full of energy. No diva attitudes that I saw. I got my hair cut with one of the stylists that will remain nameless. She was excellent. She spent a good time discussing with me what I wanted done with my hair and gave me further suggestions. The only thing I have to say that was a little disappointing is that she does a sloppy blow-out. She didn't use a brush to blow dry my hair, she just used her fingers. When I go to a salon to get my hair professionally done, I want a great blow out. It was like she was blow drying it just to get it dry. For me, that is my favorite part because when you find someone that really takes their time, it is very relaxing. She seemed overwhelmed and like she was rushing the whole time. I hate to say anything negative, because I love the end result and she was super friendly and very professional...but when I go to a hair salon, I want to feel pampered and relaxed. I wasn't the slightest relaxed whatsoever. So I might go back to her if I just care about the functional aspects, not the girlie fun stuff. read more

I highly recommend Tiah Popa for all your hair stylist needs. Sure she's my sister-in-law but that's not why I've been going to her for the past 10+ years. She is an expert in her field. She is constantly learning new skills, latest fashion trends, and is very calculated with coloring (aka hiding my grey!!!), extensions, and cuts. I would never recommend this salon as Tiah rushed my haircut and completely butchered my hair. I went in for a simple bang trim with my bangs full and long. Tiah decided to give my bangs "texture" which I did not ask for (I specifically said please just even out the ends). I walked out of the salon with a huge chunk of my bangs in the middle of my forehead an entire inch shorter than the rest of my bangs, my worst nightmare. It looks like a child cut my bangs. I cried for hours. Even with an apology from the owner and an offer to try to fix my hair, I would never return to trust them with my hair again. I was assured Tiah was an experienced hairdresser which made my situation even more annoying because of my terrible end result . I had a good experience in the past with another stylist so if you do go to Harmony salon just don't see Tiah but... I recommend you save yourself the potential of hair heartache and try a different salon. read more

I just had an appointment yesterday with Amanda. She was such a pleasure! I've never highlighted my hair before, but was really assured by her bio on the site and then by our discussion before the coloring. She specializes in coloring, and mentioned she loves to do balayage-type highlighting. I felt like we were on the same page the whole time. I love when a hair appt is more of a collaboration than directing orders, it makes the experience so much better (imo). I had pictures (from pinterest of course) to show her, and she took in every detail I asked for. I was especially impressed on her suggestion to cut my hair dry, since I have wavy/curly hair. We decided to cut wet, but regardless, that shows a great deal of attention to your client, which I haven't seen in many stylists. I researched the site and reviews a good bit beforehand, and priced out my appointment to be $80-100 (before tip) for a wash/cut/toner/partial highlight. $37 for a wash/cut seems to be pretty standard for Pittsburgh. My only disappointment is in myself for not discussing budget before hand (came out to approx $120, before tip). It wasn't too far off from my estimate, although pricey if you're used to $80 wash/cut/highlight up in Northeast PA. But for the quality of work and my happiness with the outcome, I tipped 20%, justifiably so. They just remodeled the salon 2 weeks ago, which looks gorgeous! Harmony has been open for 12 years. Staff was warm, friendly, and very professional. I had no wait going into my appointment and was offered refreshments multiple times. I also saw a lot of men come and go, with very clean cuts...so men, don't be shy! I will be going back again before winter hits, and am looking forward to trying some of their other services! read more

This was a disappointing salon experience. My stylist was young and chatty (a little overly so). My highlights were left on for a long time and my hair was very brittle for several months after my visit. My hair is chin length, nothing fancy, and my highlights and trim (honestly, only the slightest of baby trims on the ends) cost $150. I almost fell over when I heard this. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! So I did both when I got to the car. I've been to many salons over the years and never paid more than $100 (before tip) for highlights and a cut, and I mean a real cut, not just a little split-end trim. This visit did teach me a valuable lesson, though, because going forward I will be clear with my stylist about my budget before she begins to work. read more

Although I do not live local, family does. Whenever I am in town I make it a point to get my hair done here. The salon is young and hip and the staff is excellent. Fully satisfied with each stylist I have had. I had my hair done and my boyfriends hair cut as well and he can even be even harder to please then me. Had a great experience at Harmony. Immediately upon walking in, I was checked in and offered a beverage. My stylist, Krista Jee, did not make me wait, and took me back to her chair to ask me what I was looking for in a cut. She was great about listening to what I wanted (this cut was important, as I was getting married out of town 3 days after my appt!), and I knew it was going to be a great, professional cut. She did a thorough job evening out my layers, and my hair now lays perfectly with a simple blow dry after a shower.
