PSA, your experience is usually as bad as you allow it to be. So do yourself a favor, and put the effort in ahead of time. I had to get a title transferred. I went through the website, and figured out my forms ahead of time, filled them out and printed them. I had some questions and emailed them ahead of time, they answered within two business days. Very good service. The place is located in the palm center. A rather old,strip, but a big parking lot. A refurb wouldn't hurt anyone. The tax assessors office is small corner adjacent to the courthouse. Make sure you go in the right door, and wait in the appropriate spot, or they will get at you. Already seated in the waiting room. I walked up to the desk, provided my paperwork, and she was very happy that I had already had it filled out and was ready to go. Gave me a ticket and even though I had just walked in, I was called up to a desk within 2 minutes and was done in 5 minutes. Keep in mind I came 20 minutes early and they still saw me early and I was out before my original time had passed. Excellent service! I went to renew my handicap placard. I tried Wednesday when I was off only to find out they are all closed on Wednesdays now. I had to get permission to go in to work late so I could have it not be delinquent. I can't stand more than a few minutes without intense burning and pain during bad flares, and I'm in a horrible one now since my trunk fell on me and I had already gotten shoulder injections a few weeks prior. My back problems have been present for over 20 years, and I have fibro, AS, and autoimmune issues as well. Anyway, I usually go to the one on Chimney Rock, but that one can take a really long time. If I was off I wouldn't mind so much. The reviews for Griggs as well as calling and speaking with a very nice woman pointed me in the direction of this location. I planned on getting here at 7:30, but rain and life had me moving slow. I arrived in the parking lot after 8:20 and was out by 9:07. That's with me shuffling around my bags because of the rain and trying to protect my paperwork before actually going in. I was even able to get 2 placards, which I was about to ask for as mine looked like who did it and what for after 4 years of actual use. Faded to nothing and taped together in 2 places. I just turned 42 and work full time in addition to having nieces and nephews. My placard is always moving, and I drive my brother's vehicles since I can't easily move the car seats with my musculoskeletal and pain issues. The actual time from waiting in my seat to the desk and out the door was maybe 10-15 minutes. The only suggestion I have is the sign in sheet for the handicapped like the Chimney Rock location has so we don't have to stand in line and wait to check in at the desk for a number. Thankfully the line was short and I spoke with a lovely woman while waiting. However I had brought extra items for the wait(as I've had to wait hours in the past), my chair pillow, umbrella, iPad, and my bag was heavier than usual. Standing was extremely painful. It's not the same as standing with nothing in hand. There were chairs against the wall, but I did not want to risk losing my place in line. Outside of that it was a great experience. I'll be coming to this location for my needs from now on even though it's a bit further from home. read more

I am a single working mom of teenage kids, & the government, nor do the HC cops care about my situation. I was pulled over for a 2-year outdated car registration & no insurance, as I couldn't afford either, & the cops in my kids' school neighborhood - Bridgeland, where their birth father resides (because I was bullied after 12 years of being sued & outspent in legal fees), I had to get my car registration renewed in Harris County. I live by Clay Road, where I tried to go to this one for the 4th time at 7:25 AM, after multiple attempts at 8:15 AM, 11 AM, and 2 PM with the same results of having to wait for 3-4 hours. This last time, at hour 2.5, a woman in her 60s took her ticket #, stood in line for about an hour (where this place forces you to make a line OUTSIDE IN HOUSTON HEAT), begged if she could just sit down in the A/C (feeling faint) - the black lady in charge of operations (whom I've seen before & have asked why does this take so long, to which she responded "It's like this Everyday"), REFUSED to give the 60+ year old woman claiming she was "about to pass out if [she] didn't sit down" though 8 [EIGHT] OPEN "blue handicap" seats were all open, nor did ask a young, well equipped person in the "red" chairs to give up their seat. Another pregnant woman (at least 6 months pregnant), asked the same & got the same treatment by this black lady (Zero racism here; I don't know her name & am not enthralled to go back & learn it, that is just the color of her skin, & p.s. my best friend is black).... Inevitably, I gave my seat up to the 60+ year old woman not feeling well, after she even went to this HC Precinct Clay Rd. crapshoot management, & I saw first-hand the attendant lady at the front of Room #5 (Tax Office) complain harder behind the scenes to management that the 60+ year old lady was "complaining too much and had no right to sit to down. The red chairs were for the people standing in line for 3+ hours to get registrations, the (8 open) blue chairs were for actual handicap; doesn't matter if you're about to passout, old, nor pregnant, 'stand in the [3+ hour] line!'". The receptionist was great in the humble office however it is ridiculous how hard they make it to get your vehicle registration. I went with someone to get their vehicle registered for the first time and it was a fiasco. It was so much nicer when we had to register our vehicle in another county and it was a breeze. Y'all need to coordinate. Better way. Also your web ages to schedule an appt are inadequate. read more

I just HAVE to give this particular government agency location 5 stars, especially when my visit was so painless. In fact, it was down-right pleasant! I feel compelled to help them out since I know they're prone to getting low ratings. I got here at 8:15am. NO LINE. Got in my car with my new specialty plates at 8:23am. The ladies were kind and smiling. The plaza it's located in is much nicer than I had expected, considering the location (SE of UH). There was no website on the address I looked up on my maps and no one answered the phone when I called the number they have listed (I called for a week straight) I went in person and they didn't let me in because I needed an appointment. I wasted my time and money to go over there when they could have just told me that over the phone but they never answer the phone. They need better customer service and and they need to post the website on their listing. read more

After visiting to renew registration it took from 12pm to 2pm to get inside the building . Then once inside the building it took three hours to get service because I was paying cash. My ticket number was 382 . I didn't leave the building until a few minutes to 6pm . There were three people working behind the window . Then I had to wait until someone was available to except cash. This is totally unacceptable. I was under the influence service was included with the the price you pay for your merchandise sine it's not self service. Need a better way to work it or more people. Extremely friendly place. I've been here twice at different times of the month and pretty much had no wait. I absolutely recommend this location. All of staff was extremely helpful and kind even when I didn't bring in the right paperwork!! They redirected, highlighted, and told me step by step what to do. Parking is easy and in a safe plaza. All the roads surrounding the area are extremely bumpy though (lots of potholes). 5 stars for this government agency! read more

As far as interactions with government agencies go, this one went very smoothly. I got into a car accident and lost my front license plate, so I had to bite the bullet and get new plates (a mere $7 replacement fee). I looked up the correct form online, filled it out and brought it in along with payment. Since I was prepared, I was in and out in with brand new plates in under 5 minutes. That has to be a record. A few tips: -Don't expect service with a smile (hence, the missing 5th star). -Check the website. If you scroll over the little stars, it will tell you the approximate wait time. So handy! -Fill out your paperwork ahead of time. -They accept cash or check only. No credit/debit cards. -3 transactions per person. (I don't know what other kind of business is conducted here, but who would need to do more than three things at the tax assessor's office?) read more
