Not one of the best locations. The store was empty and security was tight. Price was mismarked for the drink. He was kind enough to correct the price for me. Not one of the stronger Harris Teeter locations I've been to. The store felt empty in a way that was a little off-putting, and the security presence was notably tight -- more so than you'd typically expect for a grocery store, which sets an uncomfortable tone before you even start shopping. There was also a pricing discrepancy on a drink at checkout, where the shelf price and the register price didn't match. To his credit, the staff member was kind enough to correct it without any pushback, which I appreciated. That kind of customer service saves the visit from being a total loss. This location is convenient if you are in the area. Parking is free for 90 minutes with purchase. There is a Starbucks and small seating area. I prefer the selections at First street NE (sandwiches, daily specials, more grab and go items). The guards and cashiers are nice. I swung by here for a grab lunch from the hot bar and some salad and it was a good deal compared to the restaurants in the area. If you need some thing outer service (deli, bakery, etc.) expect a wait a few minutes to be served because they don't always have staff available to immediately serve people. This grocery store is pretty convenient with its location, pharmacy, fresh produce and parking. Parking is validated for up to 2 hours with purchase. The validation has changed and it's a strange tablet situation where you hold the parking slip up to the camera and align the squares. It's tricky and usually people aren't there to explain it to you, so I've had to help a neighbor out myself. It is annoying to have your receipt checked. I know there have been issues with theft and I'm grateful that the entire store isn't locked down, but sheesh! This is not unique to this store though. It happens across this city. The pharmacy has been a positive experience, outside of the app not working. I stopped receiving app updates for renewing my medication. That was frustrating. The texts always come through though! If they aren't updated, I can call and ask and usually get through to them. I'll never understand the checkout line system. How do I put my cart on the opposite side of the grocery belt and still load the bags, etc.? I just do self check out! read more

I will admit I want to rate this location lower but I think they are doing the best they can. Staff is friendly and store is reasonably clean. Triple layer security and mandatory receipt checks as you leave due to the vast amount of theft. No small baskets. When I asked why they stated people would just come in and fill them up and walk out with the goods. Answer: Get rid of the baskets! There were fresh vegetables, some international options and a self-checkout area facing the shopping center. Needed to pop into the grocery store to get a few items. This isn't in my neighborhood but it was on the way home. There is underground parking available and some street parking. First, the layout of the store is a bit odd. I was looking for the milk and it was in the complete opposite section of the eggs and yogurt. Usually all this stuff is in one spot. When you enter the garage you receive a ticket. When you take it inside, after buying some items, it should be validated. When I went to leave, it said I needed to pay $20. I was only in the store about 15 minutes and the cost of my items was $25 so I was not about to pay that for parking. I had to go back inside to validate it again and still it said I needed to pay for parking. Luckily an attendant was nearby to assist. It seems their machine was having some issues as I noticed a line starting to form my 2nd time trying to come out. Absolute mess. read more

I go to Harris Teeter at least once everyday as I work right around the corner and generally get what I want going straight in and right back out. I get it's a smaller store with smaller selections of many items and greater foot traffic than the one by my house in VA so I understand; shout out to Diane by checkout who is most helpful with her smile brightening up those gloomy days when you walk by. read more

Today I witness the most horrific thing at Harris teeter. One of the employees was setting up the hot bar for the lunch rush, why did this lady stuck her finger in the mash potatoes and proceeded to lick that finger and continued to set up the bar. I was in shock I thought I was seeing things until another customer asked me did I just see that? This was so nasty and disgusting. I told the hot bar manager and she stated that she was going to remove the potatoes REALLY!! Didn't stick around to see if it was actually done. I asked for the store manager but he wasn't there, so I came home and called corporate immediately. This is so very unfortunate because I really enjoyed the hot bar. This grocery store sucks. It's basically the worst. Do not ever buy their prepared foods. The fried chicken is disgraceful the pizza is soooo doughy. The sushi is a mockery and the sandwiches are a joke. The seafood department smells like rotten fish and looks worse than it smells. Why grocery stores don't encase seafood but do encased eggs in refrigeration, seems backwards and borderline insane. The bathrooms are disgusting and the attendants are slow and lazy. Not to mention the arbitrary check mark on your receipt by very nice gentlemen as one tries to exit. Beer and wine section is decent but that's about it. Oh and fruit flies will come home with you if you buy a bag of onions. I love this location and anytime i come in this store its very clean. My problem with this store is the fact that i go in on Thursdays for two specials that i come for. That is the fried chicken that is $5 for eight pieces, which you could also get baked and i did and it taste like it was a day old and rebaked. The fried chicken is usually fresh and don't last long. It has almost been fights waiting for this chicken. The other special is for prime rib and two sides for $17.99. If you are the manager and know this is a weekly special seems like you would prepare your staff not to run out. If last week you sold out you order double. Then on top of all that, their was one guy who fried the chicken and he went on his lunch break while i was on my lunch break and no one else could fry chicken. When someone go on break, get a back up fryer, your business is losing money. read more

Look out. They accuse everybody of shoplifting. There's an "item checker" after you pay who demands to see your receipt and take inventory of what you have. I'm sorry you have a problem with theft. Update: While this HT used to be super solid, every time I've gone in over at least the past year, I've found: 1) The produce section has just fallen OFF altogether. Half of the fruits or veggies look bad, and I don't mean "visually unpleasant." I mean they look blighted. 2) The fresh meat counter used to be awesome, but the fresh chicken now frequently smells strange and is super slimy. I don't even bother anymore. 3) They are just generally out of common things far more than they ever were before. This seems to be the case no matter when I go in. I've switched entirely over to Trader Joe's now but came in here to get Peter Pan Honey Roasted Peanut Butter (yes, it's worth it's own trip)...I got the last one on the shelf. Horrendous customer service; I was told my prescription would be ready within 30 minutes. I arrive 45 minutes later, checked in and was told by the staff that the Pharmacist had to verify and she had stepped out. I obliged by doing some quick shopping in the grocery store, checked out, and return to the pharmacy. As I checked in, I was told the pharmacist had not returned. To my left I notice, there she is - in a food aisle having a conversation with the manager. She sees me waiting now for an additional 10 minutes in line - CLEARLY the customer does not come first here - when she returns, she does not apologize for keeping me waiting or for the elongated time to receive my prescription, instead gossips with the fellow employees on how the Store Manager's feedback to her on their lack of professional attire was overreach. What should have happened - BOTH the pharmacist and store manager should have seen a client waiting in line, for an extended period of time, paused their conversation for the client to get her medicine and then they could have resumed their conversation later. read more

There are some issues happening at the Harris Teeter, located in Navy Yard in DC. Breakfast service has gone down in quality tremendously. The employee appears to be angry at any patron who asks a question, refuses to replenish food, and staff are fleecing customers by putting lunch stickers ($11.99 Lbs.) out on the breakfast containers ($9.99 Lbs.). Most customers do not look at the container to check. However, when you go to check out, the cashiers type in the code for lunch prices as early as 8:00 AM when there is no lunch being served. This appears to be purposeful. As early as 8:00 AM, food items were empty, and when asked the gentleman handling breakfast angrily yelled at a customer that he was not making any more. This is unacceptable. Many times, I have been here and seen altercations between staff, staff being rude to customers and a lack of care and apathy for customers, but to deliberately cheat people is a bridge too far. I hope something can be done soon to fix the situation. read more

I don't understand why people need to be so rude. I was waiting in the self-checkout line behind like 10 or 12 other people. When I got to the front of the line I walked to the left to see if any of the kiosks were free. The self-checkout attendant came up to me and told me to leave and go to the back of the line, accusing me of cutting in line. She was extremely unfriendly and I didn't want to make a scene so I just left and went into another line. But I was embarrassed. I hope Harris Teeter realizes that people may have bad days, and the way you interact with them can make or break their day. It costs nothing to be polite to someone. Pharmacy is ridiculous they do not answer the phone. I was trying to get my medication before I had to go out of town for work and wasn't able to get my medication and now I have to retake 2 months of worth of blood tests to get my perscription that is now expired. Pharmacist on the phone was rude and said that I was lying for saying I called 3 days in a row since they "always pick up calls". Absolutely ridiculous will be moving to another pharmacy. read more

I love Harris Teeter. It's always neat and clean. The ambiance is nice. The produce is always fresh. The prices are competitive. Their customer service is excellent....with the exception of one particular pizza guy. Apparently, he holds a leadership position, but unfortunately, he does not demonstrate the qualities of a leader. His philosophy is "I'm going to do what I want to do" and has no problem letting customers know. He neither acknowledges customers as if he has blinders on, nor does he manages our expectations. He likes to chastise his customer, and believe me, you will be punished by doing whatever he wants to do instead of providing the customer service values of Harris Teeter. This is my general narrative of a very specific confrontation with this pizza "leader." My rating is a 4 star because everyone that I have encountered at this location has been exemplary; however, I'm disappointed to say that I will not shop at this location again. The overall shopping experience is what makes this Harris Teeter so...ugh. Take my last visit, for example: I walk towards the store, there's an aggressive man approaching me for money. I get into the store, there are no small shopping carts available, so I settle for a basket. I go to the Starbucks, the barista is chatting with someone. I wait for about two minutes, finally she tells me she's going on break. I ask if anyone is coming to relieve her, she says they're late. Uh, okay. No Starbucks for me. I go do my shopping. The pitiful meat section doesn't have what I need. The meat counter has 3+ people crowded around it, but the butcher is to the side goofing off with someone. A lady asks him if there's anyone else to help her (because clearly he can't be bothered to do so), I don't stick around to hear his response because I've wasted enough time in this store. Plus the prices are always more expensive than Safeway or Giant. It's just not good. read more

Came in early this morning at 6am. I would think they would be stocked but I understand with supply chain shortages. No cashiers working and before 6:45 am only three self checkouts were working. The bigger problem is that I was overcharged for three different items. Clearly someone is not programming the sales prices in the computer correctly. Usually I catch one or two items here and there but three in one trip? They can do a bit better than this. Also to note many of the employees have masks below their noses despite the mask mandate. I would like to report 2 terrible disrespectful customer service experiences yesterday, 7.28.24. The first one, I decided to sit down in the star bucks seating area on the 4th st side. I notice some yellow signs, but the floors were completely dry. This stubby woman amazingly got up and let me know how wet the floors were, this was a complete lie. This employee was overdoing and overreacting to what the situation called for some weird reason. Unbelievably, she proceeded to go and tell a supervisor and security on me sitting in this completely dry area. No one was around but this one stubby female employee who had nothing better to do than to harass me. She got a supervisorto co-sign this bs. Secondly, if this disrespect wasn't enough, after I had purchased my things. As I was leaving, I stopped near the exit area to organize the items I had bought to put in my backpack. Out of nowhere, another employee attempts to bully me from the cart I was using, approaching me telling me he needed that cart I was using. He told me he needed to put the cart up. I told him a was finished organizing my items. He still doubled down and told that he needed the cart to put up.I let the supervisor no what was going. Terrible. read more

Nothing wrong with the selection as this grocery store itself (in fact I quite like some items like their Virginia Old Bay peanuts), but their hours on Google Maps are *not* reflective of their true hours of operation. Instead, they have a paper sign posted on the storefront window saying "Effective January 10th, our hours of operation are 6am-9pm." Why is this something that a customer needs to find out by showing up at 9:30pm?? So glad Navy Yard finally has a centrally-located and new grocery store option. Harris Teeter opened this evening with a bang! The ribbon cutting was at 5:30pm, and I stood among the masses waiting to enter around 5:35pm. Staff was on their best behavior, and samples/tastings were a'plenty. The location is easy walking distance from anywhere in Navy Yard and conveniently located just off of M street, right next to the US Department of Transportation so, even the Capitol Hill yuppies came out to the opening. I'll keep this short so, here goes... Pros: wider selection of foods, friendly staff, extensive international foods selection, massive selection of wine and beer (including craft and IPA), bread baked on site, seafood source indicated by sign with each type, nice vegetarian selection, extensive gourmet cheese selection (merlot rind cheese anyone?) Unique: Flower Shop, Starbucks, Pharmacy, Hot Foods Bar, Salad Bar, On-site Oven Baked Pizza ($7.99 on Mondays), Sushi Bar, Wine Tastings on select Fridays and Saturdays.
