The General Store in Harrisville is a quaint little store that serves breakfast and lunch. We stopped to pick up a few groceries for dinner and beverages. The steps are ancient into this very old store. The store carries a little bit of everything. Wine, local cheeses, bread and much more. The store is clean and well organized. I picked up a baguette that worked well with my dinner. A menu hangs above a deli counter. There are several tables inside to sit and eat. Prices are reasonable. The clerks are friendly and helpful. I'll return and recommend. read more

The General Store is the heart of the Harrisville community, where people greet each other with warm welcomes, except for this one customer who never smiles. Friends gather for breakfast and lunch, cyclists stop for breaks, local business leaders meet, families stop in for special treats. The staff are friendly and happy to help. The cafe serves breakfast and lunch until 2pm but their prepared foods are available into the afternoon. Stop by for a piece of afternoon pie, you won't regret it. In addition, fresh breads and locally sourced fruits and vegetables are also available. I am particularly fond of their breakfast sandwiches but by all accounts (that is, people who live in Harrisville), it's all delicious. The General Store encapsulates the way I feel when I visit Harrisville. It's a special place that I want to return to as soon as I can. read more

I had the best chocolate I've ever had outside of Belgium itself. There are blocks of chocolate by the cash register - I recommend the Jumpin Java. The local blueberries are delicious, as are the salmon cakes. The general store also actually has a variety of products and drinks, so if you need some cleaning supplies, toiletries, or alcohol, you can definitely find it here. You can also get local honey, cheese and maple syrup, as well as prepared foods and sandwiches. The service is also very friendly. A must-see for Harrisville tourists. read more

Greatest little general store/deli in Southern New Hampshire! My favorite breakfast sandwich ever, Delicious Peruvian dishes you won't find anywhere else, and their baked goods and Friday night meals-to-go are incredible. Good selection of wines and beers, and they now have a liquor license. Plenty of camp and kitchen necessities for sale, as well as a variety of local fruits and veggies in season. Fun, cozy, homey village vibe with the nicest people working there. Absolutely recommend 100%. Not to be missed. read more

Such a cute little spot for anything you may need in Harrisville. They have a prepared foods counter, with sandwiches (I had the egg salad, it was alright) and meats and such (sandwich selection runs out of options towards the later afternoon, to be expected) and desserts like apple cider donuts. They have a large selection of items for any pantry, and plenty of tables to sit. I liked looking at the Harrisville postcards and other local gifts and souvenirs. I am star-stingy but this one deserves all these and a plus! We went to check out the Harrisville Children's Center yesterday and though we tried to check out the general store before it had always been closed - we always got there too late. This time though we got there around 5:30pm on a Tuesday afternoon and we felt as though we had walked into the best li'l general store ever! For a little town general store this place has a big selection of all sorts of treats. You'll find all the usual - snacks, candies, etc. But can you believe seaweed salad? Falafel? Veggie breakfast burritos? Teas, coffees, organic dark chocolates plus a great selection of breads, cheese, drinks, honeys, jams/jellies-- you name it. The topping on the cake? Free Wi-fi. Now we can hang out and drink coffee, sip tea and munch on some homemade donuts. They also have a very good selection of newspapers : New York Times, Boston Globe, USA Today (I know - not a real newspaper!)....Wall Street Journal, Monadnock Ledger Transcript, Keene Sentinel... I can't wait to go back! ps. We went back a second time with our family and as we were finishing our brunch we noticed fresh pizza coming out of the oven as well as freshly baked macaroons! The Harrisville General Store has new management as of Dec. 12, 2008. As far as I can tell Laura and M'Lue who are running the Store and cooking are foodies of the first water! Everyday has a homemade special for lunch. Pizza paninis, Beef Stew and killer Mac & Cheese. Gourmet comfort food, great coffee (Moca Joe's from Brattleboro), and a beautiful village. Worth the trip for lunch. Not open for dinner. read more

This is my most favorite lunch place. First of all it doesn't get more Currier and Ives than the lovely town of Harrisville, virtually unmarred by commercialism, chain stores or modern times in general. The store looks like an old-time country store from the outside. Inside it had cozy tables, good coffee, lovely home made sandwiches, salads, and desserts that are to die for as well as the usual general store stuff. In summer, there are a few tables outside. They also have local meats and vegetables in season. Once a month they do a dinner, but you need to call ahead to make a reservation. The staff are friendly and helpful. read more

Stopped in this past weekend after roaming around Harrisville. Lovely quaint store with many selections. Tried their molasses and chocolate chip cookies- YUM. The store is looking great these days! I agree, they have fantastic apple cider donuts and if you are lucky, you can catch them when they make left over donuts into bread pudding. It is out of this world. The service is very friendly and they always have the little things you need. Also a great place for fresh produce or to just grab a quick morning coffee. This place has decent food, but the service is so slow. We had a party of 4 on a Saturday and when we came in, it seemed like we were the only ones to be in line to wait for our breakfast. We ordered 3 breakfast sandwiches and one bagel. We had to wait for over an hour for just those four sandwiches. After 45 minutes of waiting, we asked the workers if our order was on its way, they said they started it because there were many breakfast orders before us. In this time, we saw absolutely no breakfast items come out. It also seemed like they were preparing for lunch, rather than making our breakfast. When we finally got our food, we asked if it was normal to wait an hour for our food and the worker was rude and said she had no control of the kitchen, shrugged, and walked away. She also didn't try to find someone that could give us an answer on this. Our food was decent, but not worth waiting an hour for, like we could make it on our own at home in 10 minutes. The Harrisville General Store had a great selection of breakfast, lunch, and take-out dinner--from local bread and cheese to gourmet soups and sandwiches to a couple of choices of hot meals. The coffee is always hot, and there's always a baked treat to tempt you too. If you're visiting Harrisville for a class be sure to stop in and check them out--but be sure to go when they're open. They do close at 5:00 Mon.-Sat. and are closed on Sunday. However, although their house say 8-5, it's my experience that the door is unlocked for coffee a bit before 8! It's a gem of a place where you can also get canned goods, dry goods, and other essentials. I love this kind of locally-owned small business and I hope others check it out too! read more

This is the best lunch I've had in forever! You wouldn't expect out in back-country New Hampshire to find such a foodie-gem. They have the most amazing Italian fish chowder & sandwiches on fresh chiabatta bread. Everything is made from scratch focusing on fresh & local ingredients. For breakfast the next day, I ordered The Harrisville--local organic eggs scrambled, paired with either local sausage or bacon & Cabot cheddar served on a toasted Chiabatta...INCREDIBLE! We are SO coming back. It's a little out of the way but so worth the eats. read more
