The Short Version: California style donuts, big and fluffy. I'm a fan. The Long Version: So Harry and Heels is a donut shop inside the Fourth Man in the Fire Pizzeria. The founder is the same (he's also the founder of the Burger's Priest). Their donuts are also available at Farm Boy, even as far east as Ottawa, which is actually where I tried them (since sadly the last time I was in Toronto, was before the business was founded). I tried the Chocolate Cream Filled ($3.99) which is a big fluffy yeast donut with chocolate on top and is filled with whipped cream. It's like a round eclair, lol. The layer of chocolate was thick, which I liked. The amount of whipped cream inside was also good, not stingy. These donuts are big and substantial, yet so soft. I'm a fan. Ordered: Apple Fritter (CAD ~$5) Aya's take: Located inside the pizzeria, Harry & Heels is cranking out California-style donuts. As someone who lived in California for 4 years, I will say these are better than the donuts I had there. We only tried the Apple Fritter which isn't usually my go-to but I'm very glad we tried it. It's crisp and sweet on the outside yet unbelievably soft and fluffy on the inside! The apple flavor is mild and could be a bit more pronounced, in my opinion. You won't find a storefront of it's own. This donut place shares a place with the pizzeria. The donut was alright. The good thing about it is you can really taste the yeast flavour in the dough and the filled strawberry jelly was delicious. Tasted like they used real strawberries as there was a natural tartness underneath. It wasn't too sweet and definitely didn't give artificial strawberry flavor. I personally love these donuts. I've tried many other highly recommended places (like San Remo) but have always found donuts to be too dense and/or cakey - plus there's always a line (which I don't think is warranted imo). Harry's and Heels donuts are fluffy, light and tasty. It's kind of a pain to get to their flagship store, but now that they sell them at Farm Boys it's much easier to access their goods. I do wish they would do custard filled donuts instead of whip cream filled. But my go-to chocolate dip and apple fritter have always satisfied me. The interior is also shared with a pizza place. Two years ago in the midst of the Panini, I ordered take out from The Fourth Man in the Fire. After following them on Instagram, I noticed that there was a donut shop inside. Unfortunately Harry and Heels are not open 7 days (or even 6) a week so I wasn't able to visit their actual storefront. About a month ago though, Harry and Heels linked up with Farm Boy and started selling the donuts in their stores. When I found out the donuts were coming to the Farm Boy in Etobicoke, I decided to check it out and see what California donuts were. I picked up: the original, Apple fritter, and raspberry jelly. I tried a little of each and I have to say that the donuts were meh okay. They're not at the same price point at Tim Horton's, but seem to be quite similar taste wise. These are hands down my favorite donuts in the city! They're large, delicious, and always fresh. As someone who prefers cake donuts over yeast, their sour cream glazed is by far the best I've ever had. I also really appreciate their excellent customer service. If you're ordering through Uber, you can specify your preferred flavours, and they'll do their best to accommodate. Highly recommend! read more

Got a box of 12 delivered. For $40, was expecting a really amazing donut. And HandH turned out to be... pretty good. The donuts were light and fluffy, on the bigger side, and on the sweeter side. There was enough variety in the dozen, though some repeats (or maybe some just tasted too similar?). Quality was consistent across all the donuts. Overall, pretty good. Not sure if I'd order again, but if you like your donuts big, sweet, and fluffy, definitely give them a try. read more

Never heard of California-style donuts? Me neither, and I'm glad this place exists to show me what they are. Imagine Krispy Kreme donuts, but much larger and much softer. These donuts are bursting with flavour and are some of the best I've ever had. Want to know how to make a donut better? Cut it in half and put ice cream in between. Wow these donuts were incredible! The dough was super fluffy and to die for! They are a LITTLE on the sweet side but that did not stop me from eating 3 donuts in a day. I got pink cartoon, chocolate and skor, strawberry filled, toasted coconut, original glazed and hawaiin. I LOVED the hawaiin flavour (basically glazed with sprinkles). Can't wait to go back again! Shares space with the 'Fourth Man In The Fire Pizza' and order-window/door is on the south side, at the corner. Ive payed $5+ for a single basic donut at 'Glory Hole' (1596 Queen St W) and 'bloomer's' (715 Queen St W) and, here, they charge "only" $3.29 for big and heavy donuts! The apple fritter costs a bit more and is massive... The strawberry-filled and blueberry-filled and other "-filled" donuts are not only big, but they are HEAVY! These are the heaviest donuts (particularly the filled ones) I have encountered in Toronto and for only $3.29 ($18 per dozen), compared to other donut shops, thats unbeatable value for downtown Toronto. The taste of the berry-filled donuts are "great": doughy and the cream had no off-taste and did taste natural. The apple fritter is massive in size. It was "good" in flavour and texture, but the higher price makes the cheaper filled donuts the better buy. When compared to the apple fritters at 'Purple Penguin Cafe' (889 Queen St E), the Penguin's fritters are basically tiny apple pieces that are wrapped in dough, fried, and covered in a lightly-sweet sugary powder, and the massive one here has less "apple impact" and more sugariness from the glaze. They are not really comparable. The donuts are made on-site apparently, daily. They dont skimp on the filling quantity, unlike many places. Would recommend the berry-filled donuts and for persons in the mood for large donuts that dont cost $4-$5 or more dollars. Unbeatable value in that regard, particularly for the downtown Toronto area. California donuts are larger, fluffier donuts (after all, America is about go big or go home) so you can see the size relative to my smallish hand! Apple fritter: awesome!! One of the best apple fritters I've tried, it was reminiscent of the head sized memorable fritter I had at Rocket Donuts in Bellingham WA. Crunchy exterior, not greasy, generous chunks of apple throughout and not too sweet so the apple cinnamon flavor comes through. OG cream filled: The girl working there recommended this one when I asked which filled doughnut she would get, but unfortunately I really didn't like the filling. It tasted like a synthetic cream with a crap ton of sugar mixed into it... not pleasant and tooth-achingly sweet. The rest of the donut was great though, I just couldn't finish it because of the cream. I probably should've gotten one of the fruit filled ones instead.
