We saw Harry's while walking to another Restaurant and we were both drawn to it and happily decided to have dinner here. You'd be remiss not to have dinner and drinks at Harry's. Everything from the food & drinks to the service and ambiance was simply amazing and perfect. You feel like you entered into a 1950's world of decadence and beauty. The meal we had was outstanding and delicious. The drinks are just fantastic and the desserts were delicious. The people here are amazing and proud professionals who make Harry's perfect. Obviously, we came here for one of the most special occasions (My Mom's Birthday) and at her request we all acquiesced. Wow! I know that everything in Italy is delicious because San Marzano tomatoes are fresh and fresh cheese tastes more robust. That being said, our waitstaff made my Mom feel uniquely special. Came here for a Sunday Lunch. The setting is very traditional, some may say it's old fashioned. But still it has its style. The staff was very helpful, good English. The famous bellini was made with fresh peach juice, really very nice. The food was impeccable including a carpaccio that melted in your mouth. The sauce was simply delicious. The grilled Dover sole was also done to perfection and very fresh. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. It's not cheap but worth every penny! read more

Consistency and quality characterises this bar restaurant on the Arno. The service is classic, a remnant of an era that ended a few decades ago. The inimitable Leo Valdorini, the iconic barman and and original employee from the early 50's founding, retired years ago but his successors have been good - if many. I think only the waiter Fortunato remains from Leo's time. Patronage here is American visitors and Italian regulars. The kitchen is first class, the menu basic. Truffles are available in season, and there is always a Parma ham being whittled away in the dining room. read more

We spent 18 days touring Italy from Tuscany to Sorento. Our WORST experience was at Harry's Bar in Florence. I have been to Harry's in Rome and it was great! But skip the one in Florence. The service was horrible, the bar tender was angry, and the host made us feel like we were lucky they let us in. $150 US dollars for 6 terrible drinks in a hole in the wall with horrible service is not my idea of fun. read more

In 1953, Enrico Mariotti in Florence was planning his Boston Bar when his friend Cipriani of Venetian Harry's Bar fame persuaded him to also use the name that he had coined. It is here that links between the Florence establishment and others of the same name begin and end. Situated on the Lungarno Amerigo Vespucci on the North bank of the River Arno just around the corner from the Grand Hotel, Harry's Bar is what I would call a mandatory destination in Florence. It doubles as a sophisticated international 'American bar' and renowned Florentine restaurant, and although you can order a burger there, the really outstanding feature is the Tuscan cuisine. You can either cruise by for an early or late drink or as you most certainly should dine there. During the warmer months there is seating outside on the sidewalk, where you can sup something cool and watch Florence and the Arno twinkle and shimmer as only they can do. (Update, May 2011 I have learned that Leo has retired and wish him well (spending happy hours at his seaside refuge in Viareggio?).The references to him will remain here for 'posterity'). For example, one evening in 2010 we gently 'savoured a few' during a 'Leo-guided' wine tasting and decided to stay on for a light dinner. I have to confess that despite my love of Italy and Italian cuisine, I am not in fact a great aficionado of all types of pasta. However, Leo suggested that it would be bordering on the irresponsible to ignore a certain ravioli dish. I tried it and and not only did it melt in the mouth, but I waxed lyrical enough about it to make la contessa yawn. I can still taste that subtle sauce today. Indeed, notwithstanding the amount of wine tasted that evening, the bill for two including dinner was only nominally to the north of EUR 100. I find it hard to recall enjoying real style, top quality and a delightful atmosphere like that at a similar price anywhere else and I mean anywhere. In 2010, we booked for Christmas Eve and spent just a little more (I shall not go into greater detail for fear of being perceived as more a glutton than a gourmet :-). I Spent the afternoon drinking Bellini's and Peroni's on the Arno river in Florence. Had a wonderful time on the sidewalk cafe as the sun set. The waiter was very entertaining and the cast of characters, such as the Maestro, that pasted along the sidewalk added to the fun. Laszlo continued to bring out tasty bites and what first started out as a quick stop, ended up being a couple of hours of the quintessential Florence lazy afternoon. We highly recommend a stop at Harry's. We had the Steak Tartare, prepared table side and it was the best I have had in my life! Funny note: when you visit, they have seperate menus for the men and women. The men's menu has prices on it, the womens does not. I loved that!!!! So old school!! One more note: this is not Harry Cipriani's restaurant, the original is in Venice, not Florence- however, they are just as good and most of the items on the menu resemble Cipriani's- prices are about the same too. read more

One of the grandest evenings of my long life was New Year's Eve 2001 at Harry's, Venice. So I am well disposed toward Harry. The Florence Harry's gloriously lives up to it's glorious name. Cuisine? The most correct risotto I have ever eaten--and in Tuscany! My wife's lasagne was a cloud on which angels should have lived. Perfect steak tartare, made at the table. Excellent bacala. Out of some kind of perversity, I have never had the famous hamburger, but it is acclaimed. The menu offers, and the kitchen executes, a fine balance of "international" and Italian. Excellent wines, not all expensive. The service is the best of high Italian: trained, personable, discreetly bi-lingual, cordial, correct. For decor, think of an ocean liner of the '20s--the Normandie, First Class. So a wonderful place, for celebration, consolation, love, or a Martini. My own favorite in Florence. Equal to my beloved Carlyle in New York. read more

Okay, I know this place is supposed to be iconic but it's just not worth the money. I ordered a negroni for 20 euros and, true, they brought complimentary h'ordeuvres which, except for the potato chips, looked to have been left out too long before they were served. There was something that might have been liver but looked like poop emojis on toast. I thought, well, I'm here, I may as well get dinner so I ordered the cheapest thing on the menu which was a club sandwich "Harry's style" for 36 euros. Four slices of white bread with the crusts cut off, a piece of greasy bacon, a couple of bits of some other meat, a tomato and about a gallon of mayonnaise. One of the worst meals I've ever had. Save your money and go to one of the little restaurants tucked away in the alleyways in Florence for a truly enjoyable and authentic Italian meal. You're in Italy, for Pete's sake -- don't waste your time at Harry's. read more

This restaurant is overpriced and unprofessional. I came here at the suggestion of my hotel which told me I would get 25%off. I had their risotto scampi which had szechuan peppers.I had never had szechuan peppers, but this plate was disgusting! I sent it back thinking they would comp me but they wound up charging me. Even the waiter said he didn't much care for that plate either. In addition, they charged me a napkin fee of 5 euros each napkin (2). Who does that? I have never been motivated to write a yelp review but this experience was awful. read more
