We found some interesting and inexpensive stuff, like a $5 red Asian rug runner in perfect shape. It's not unlike a fleamarket and has different stall-like areas. There is an interesting clock/watch shop, another that has tons of costume jewelry. There is such a wide variety of stuff at reasonable prices, that it's tough to really describe the diversity. There are ladders and pails and tools, and flags, and so much stuff. Worth a browse if you're in the neighborhood. Totally curious, only mildly organized. That's what makes it fun, I suppose. It's about two miles W of Abyss, another interesting thrift store. They're very dissimilar. You'll see what I mean.

My friend swears they have the best deals, so I decided to stop by. I was only interested in upcycling home goods like curtains, pillowcases etc. That kept my search a little easier. I found several things I wanted but the prices seemed so high for a thrift store. I went to the cashier and asked if they ever have home goods on sale, figuring I'd just wait to get those items. He pointed to a huge sign I missed when I walked in. Everything except clothing was 75% off! So instead of checking out with one thing I had several for a total of $12! I don't know how often they run that sale but it was worth my time. They have a lot of everything and I found the clerks very friendly and helpful.

Over the years I've purchased quite a few women's tops, fabric napkins and sheets, and so much more. On this trip last week I left empty handed, but I know they'll be something for me on my next visit. The volunteer staff is helpful. It's worth the short drive to Newburgh to check it out.

Evansville Rescue Mission (ERM) Thrift has decided that they are a retail store, not a thrift…read morestore. This is a recent occurrence. Since Goodwill is soon moving next door into Washington Square, ERM Thrift appears to be marking up their shelf pieces. For instance, I pointed out a $25.00 cut glass basket to the asst mgr. She says,'Well, if it's worth $100, it's a bargain.' On line, I found the same basket for $27.00. So where's the bargain? She curtly replied, 'You don't have to buy it!' Now that's customer service! NOT. And she's right. In fact, after buying dozens of items over the past months, I DON'T HAVE TO EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM ERM THRIFT AGAIN!' I shopped this store 3-5 times a week and found lots of thrift items at good prices. Now, however, I see a $100 Waterford biscuit jar, several items in the $75-$120 range and more. I suggest putting nicer items of higher value on your website and keeping thrift-priced items on the sales floor. This, and proper customer service, go a long way to an enriched store experience. Certainly, I want charity shops to do well. I just don't expect rude customer service and overpriced thrift items. With Google Lense on IPhones, the public can do quick comparative pricing. Don't insult your customers. Or, like me, they will not return.
