Sign is SMALL. Know where you're going ahead of time or you'll miss it.

What a wonderful discovery this place was. The penultimate local business experience, complete with warm local service with a smile, very reasonable prices, and surprisingly excellent selection - especially for being on such a small plot of land. We wanted some crepe myrtles for the yard, so I asked my wife if she could check out some local options that weren't Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. This place had good reviews (although not a ton), the guy on the phone was friendly, and it sounded like they had good options. Upon arrival, the first thing worth mentioning is blink and you'll miss it. The nursery is surrounded by boat yards, and its sign is relatively small and subtle. So know where you are ahead of time and be ready. Slow down. Next, you'll think, wow... small place... Not so fast. It's deep and amazingly has a LOT to offer. There are large trees for very reasonable prices. There are all kinds of... well, just about everything! Want something else? Let Scott know and he'll do his best to get it for you. Speaking of Scott, Scott Hartwell is the owner and head dude, and his father founded this little gig. Scott is great. Easy to talk to and knowledgeable, he's a natural at this. He was super helpful, and we intend to use him again soon for more crepe myrtles that he didn't have yet in the season. (We got 3 large white ones... I forget the name... maybe 7-8' tall each, at a very good price of $80 each.) Scott and his guys cultivate most of the stuff offsite themselves, which is extra awesome. I saw a very tall mature tree - easily 15' tall, maybe close to 20' - for around $500 that included delivery and planting. Seriously? That's a steal. He had so many large, great trees at reasonable prices... Love this place already. We'll be back very soon!

Hey Y'all ~ Native butterfly gardener here- and I was reading some of the reviews that popped up here, and I must put in my two nickels worth: One was from last year in the height of this COVID fiasco, and the review said the staff was "VERY RUDE" and wouldn't answer questions about plants. I would ask: Does the same phone you submitted your review have a search engine? Use it! There's a site www.davesgarden.com where you can look up everything about a certain plant, and get everything you need to know about every one they carry. Be an educated consumer! These great folks are not your teacher, you are! They are very busy nurserymen and it takes a lot of work to move the plants around to keep them alive. You are alive and responsible to keep yourself alive and happy, they can't help if you have a baditude! (Yes I meant to make bad and attitude one word.) Just try going to any big chain store and you will not find better cultivated and cared for varieties. EXCEPT maybe when COVID shut down a lot of suppliers, therefore not much was available anywhere! TRUE GARDENERS ARE PATIENT, if you aren't either of the two, (gardener or patient) what chance does an air plant have in your care? I would suspect and fully question your motives in the first place. I totally LOVE Hartwells!! I live in Lake Dallas and it is the only privately owned nursery for miles! A lot of serious gardeners and landscapers shop here, and we have developed a righteous relationship with these fabulous folks. I have had hits an misses with every place I've ever shopped for plants, but I keep trying and it always pays off. I'm here for the long haul, and thank God for Hartwell's!

Placed online order for pickup of mulch etc. two hours later received email & text notifications order was ready for curbside pickup. Upon arrival an hour after I was notified, I followed online instructions to notify them to load my order. 20 minutes later and watching multiple employees just walk by and look at me then go back to playing on their phones, I went in to customer service. Three ladies working at desk. Only one customer being served in front of me in line. The other two saw me but never greeted me or asked to help. Ten minutes later, it's my turn and I tell them I've been waiting in pickup for 20 mins. The lady looks at her machine and says "sorry. I don't know why I didn't see this". She walks around confused and asked other ladies for help and comes back to tell me to go to Garden center and show them a barcode she handed me. I pull around to the Garden center where they told me and nobody was there. No order in sight. I walked in to the young girl at register (who was recording selfies) and explained my situation and asked where I needed to go. For 10mins she struggled on the computer, her cell phone and even my cell phone. A long line formed where other customers were badgering me because I was waiting on the girl. She looked at me after 15 mins and said "none of my stuff is working and I can't call anyone. G to customer service" where I just was. At this point, after an hour struggling to pick up and online curbside order, I walked back to customer service and ask for a simple refund. After struggling at register for 10 more minutes, they tell me the system is down and can't process a refund. I asked for the store manager several times. After 15 more minutes, not a single manager appeared or responded. Several employees attempted to help but none of them knew what to do and seemed to be annoyed with me and my issues. After almost 1.5 hours, I gave up and told them to load my order so I could leave. Again, they could not find my pending pickup order so they had to run all over the place to fulfill the order like I just asked for it.

We've been in our home for 25 years and throughout that time it made many small changes to our landscaping, following the sun and shade. This was effective for many years. However, following The Great Texas Freeze of 2021, several scorcher summers, and the the removal of several big tree in the last two years, our front yard appeared to a be a post-apocalyptic waste land, a neighborhood eyesore, and far beyond our ability to update and repair ourselves. My wife and I had many ideas but we're not able to transfer our ideas for our yard that would fully meet the look, along with the low environmental impact and minimal maintenance requirements we wanted. In addition to the cosmetic appeal, there were extensive needs for hardscape repair, a redesign and installation for our sprinkler system, and to tackle drainage issues. We were afraid we would need to coordinate efforts and schedules for several different companies to meet this wide variety of needs. However, Grow It Land Designs had the expertise and skill set to provide a one-stop solution and resources to execute this plan to address all of our needs in a manner that wildly exceeded all of our expectations . Skills and knowledge are based expectations for any company you would wish to do business with. Grow It land designs far exceeded all expectations for landscape company, or any organization you would trust to take care of your home. Communication and responses to questions were detailed and timely. All members of the Grow It Land Design team were extremely professional, courteous, and very respectful of our needs. This was a multi week project and throughout the time they were very considerate not only of our daily family routines( including pets !! ) but also very sensitive to any concerns of our neighbors might have regarding possible disruptions during this time. The project was completed well within the quoted budget and timeline. I cannot paise them highly enough. Please feel free to drive by and see for yourselves. The photo wasn't of anything bad or wrong, it was not misleading or a misrepresentation, it was a legitimate photo of the outside area of the location that she says is shared with a landscaping company, tho what landscape company I do not know. The reasoning stated to me was that the landscaping company didn't want the photo of their area published. The photo was of the locations surroundings just as any Google maps search would provide, so it's not anything that can't be seen anyway. It showed their "shared space" which being "shared" still makes it part of this businesses space which serves as sort of a parking area. The rating on this review is based on the point of contact by the owner to manipulate the initial review by requesting removal of a photo that is a true representation of what is surrounding the business, part of their "shared space", this removes what is also a visual to allow others to find this out of the way place that is not on any main road. I don't feel it is appropriate for a business to private message a Yelp member for the sole purpose of manipulating what is on the review.

I've worked with landscapers before and usually you get a lot of talk and not a lot of follow through. This was different. They gave us a few design options, walked us through everything, and actually communicated throughout the whole project which was huge for me. What really stood out was the quality of the work. We've paid for "premium" service in the past and never really felt like we got it. With Blooming Colors, you can tell they care. The details, the cleanup, the way everything came together, it just felt right. Now our backyard is a place we actually want to spend time in again, which I didn't think I'd say a few months ago. Here's the story... Before purchasing, I made it crystal clear I needed HOA approval (as an "exception" because it's not on our approved landscaping list). On that lovely Saturday, the very helpful sales associate, Olivia, confidently assured me I'd get a full refund if the HOA didn't approve. No mention of store credit. No caveats. That promise (and my love for those two trees) was the only reason I agreed to move forward and let them hold the trees on my card. HOA said no. I came back expecting a simple resolution... and instead got a full rewrite of reality. Olivia wasn't there, and the staff immediately insisted there was "no way she would've said that." One employee chimed in, "I trained her myself," followed by questions about whether I "saw all the no-refund signs." The manager doubled down with, "I really don't believe she said that." All of this--despite having a witness that was standing next to me who heard the entire conversation. Let's call it what it was: not confusion... gaslighting. After things escalated, the owner came out, seemingly only after I mentioned disputing the charge. She agree to refund me--but not before trying to shush me, telling me to "be quiet or wait outside," and saying, "I'll refund your money and you can go buy your trees elsewhere." Nothing says "family business values" quite like dismissing a paying customer on the way out. The trees were beautiful, no doubt--but their integrity and respect wilted faster than a Texas agave in August. If you shop here, get everything in writing... because their word clearly doesn't take root. Better yet, don't.

This is what has followed. I placed a same-day delivery order on Sunday May 3rd. I was sent text messages throughout the day that it would be delivered that day even to the point that it was out for delivery. At 7:40 PM, I was notified that no, it wasn't out for delivery and that it was in fact delayed all of the sudden, but they were working on it. I tried calling the Lowe's at Plano West (where I placed the order) two different times- both times put on hold and stayed on hold until after they closed. Then when I tried to call back, nobody answered...which we all know was done on purpose. On Monday I tried calling customer service to find out where the product was. They ultimately were of no help at all. They could do nothing. They also told me to go up to the Plano West store where I could possibly pick the product up if one was in stock. I went up to the Plano West store and was told at that time that no, in fact the product was at the Lewisville store. I was told by the manager that he would look into it and call me back, which he never did. Why it was at the Lewisville store and why the manager did not call me back, I have no clue. The next day I tried calling the Lewisville store and I don't know who I spoke with because I've spoken to so many people at this point and was told that there is a third-party that actually makes the deliveries that they had picked the product up, but they had not delivered the product and they don't know where the product was. I was also told that I could not cancel the order for a refund. Nor could I pick another one of the same unit they had in stock at that store. So now I have a sick kid, I have no product, no refund, nobody that could help me and was told to call back the next day. I called back the next day and asked for the manager and was told that that manager was gone that I needed to call back the next day, which is what I did. I called the next day and I was told that that manager is not in the office. Today is now Thursday. I was able to finally speak with the manager at the Lewisville store who I will mention by name as he has been literally the only person with any competence to be able to handle this situation. Darren. Thankfully, he did call back and leave me a VM because I am at work. He said he was able to discount the unit because of the inconvenience and I could either come pick the unit up or he would deliver the unit to me personally. He said for me to call back. I called back and whoever it was that I spoke to said that he wasn't there and that I needed to call back tomorrow. So here we are once again no product no refund they can't tell me where it is they don't know what to do about it nor do they care. Yes I could go up there and pick it up but because it's at the Lewisville store it's 30 minutes away. I work full-time and again I am a single mother of a severely disabled child. I don't have the time to do that. My frustration level has peaked. I know that Lowe's ultimately does not care whether or not I shop there again or not. But I don't care. This level of incompetence is absurd. I will never ever EVER shop at Lowe's ever again.
