I don't know what it is, but I hate the feeling of metal on my teeth, it's the worst. So, when my dentist recommended that I get my wisdom teeth out, I put it off for a year. Finally, they started to be uncomfortable, so I knew I had to "bite" the bullet. I went to three different oral surgeons for a consultation. Belmont oral surgery was my pick for one reason. I would be put under during the procedure. The other places offered twilight sedation. Based on my friends getting "Twilight", I knew that you would be semi-awake, and that wasn't enough for me. Dreading the procedure for weeks, the day finally came. I went in, they put in the IV, started talking about my job to me, and then.... I woke up in the recovery room. So, I don't remember anything about the procedure. That's great. Next, it's been three days, and I can say, I am not in any pain? My girlfriend got this procedure done at a different facility and she had a swollen mouth and a lot of pain for 3-5 days. I even stocked up on mashed potatoes because I didn't think I'd be able to eat for a week. Well, the day after my procedure, I had bacon and eggs, and worked out at the gym and went to work no problem. My swelling is almost nothing, and I'm not in any pain at all. The office is very straight forward and not exactly a "spa-like" atmosphere as some of the other facilities I went to for a quote. The front desk staff is kinda, "Sit down, fill the form, and wait" and less like the more "high-end" offices I went to that offered me Fruit infused water and snacks and stuff. But that's OK, because this place has much better results and a cheaper price. Overall, I made the best choice coming here. Yes, it doesn't have high-end decor, a staff that will baby you, and all the bells and whistles of a chestnut hill office, but this place gets the job done the best. Like I said, it's day three, and I'm not in any pain. At all.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE please please avoid. The staff and especially Dr. Eckert (I only saw the father…read morenot the son) were extremely unprofessional and made me feel so uncomfortable. I actually cried once I returned home. I came in looking for a consult on a single wisdom tooth that has been bothering me. Dr. Eckert came in and immediately started pushing for me to get all 4 out: that's not what I came in prepared to do, so I was trying to ask questions about why I would need all 4 out when only one was bothering me. One of his quips when I asked why I would need all 4 was "only 10% of people get to keep all 4 of their wisdom teeth"???? okay?? how many people have 1 out, 2 out, etc? I feel that if I'm signing up for a surgery I'm allowed to ask as many questions as I want, but at a certain point Dr. Eckert said "I'm sensing some hesitancy and honestly, I don't know why." Maybe for a dentist the procedure feels mundane, but again, I'm allowed to be hesitant! I'm allowed to ask questions! And I shouldn't be shamed or gaslight into thinking I'm being ridiculous for asking questions! Another thing I kept asking was if I could just do the 1 or maybe the bottoms, as I see no reason to take out the tops (they haven't even started growing in yet). Dr. Eckert just kept saying "I don't know why you would do just 1 right now, because then you'll have to come in 3 more times to get each one out" what a ridiculous comment to even come out of his mouth. Of course I don't want to come in 4 times to take each out 1-by-1. That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking if I can tackle only the ones that look bothersome now, and reassess with the others later in life. They're my teeth, I'm allowed to decide which ones I want taken out!! Listen, I understand what his perspective is. He thinks all 4 will eventually start to bother me. Whether he's right about that is the subject of intense debate. The surgery is very invasive and having all 4 out will make the healing process more difficult, so I was hoping to avoid taking some out if they weren't bothering me right now. If 10 years from now they do start to bother me, great, fine. I'll take them out. There was no room for this perspective in that office, I'll tell you that! Finally, a note on the front desk and assistants, who were no better. There was a debate about whether to do full anesthesia or laughing gas. An assistant told me laughing gas wouldn't be covered by insurance. When I was checking out, I asked if I could please get a quote for both the full anesthesia cost and the laughing gas cost so that I could determine which one works better for my budget. They took SO MUCH offense to this request (even though it's literally my money and I'm allowed to ask how much the procedure will cost), and never gave me the second quote. When they finally got back to me about a cost it was for all 4 teeth (how many times did I tell them I didn't want all 4 out!!) and it was completely unspecified whether they had quoted me for full anesthesia or laughing gas. I definitely did not get 2 quotes. I cannot stress how entirely unprofessional my entire experience was. I sincerely hope dealing with the younger Mr. Eckert is a more pleasant experience. Please avoid this practice at all costs, they did not convey a respect for the patient like I would have expected, they just wanted to get as much money out of me as possible.

The son then proceeded to change the sedation treatment after I had already signed the forms and was hooked up to EKG and oxygen. I caught the switch before the operation went through and after Dr Eckert's son pushed back on me and I decided to walk out of their office. I've since been to another oral surgeon and that dentist said that only one wisdom tooth needed to come out and the other three had complications due to their proximity to facial nerves, that if damaged could cause facial paralysis. None of this information was given to me at my consultation with Dr. Eckert and I went in expecting all four teeth removed. What Dr. Eckert did was careless, unprofessional and unethical. I'm glad the procedure did not go through otherwise the son could have caused long term damage had he not had the experience to do the complicated procedure on the upper wisdom teeth.

Sitting at home (33 miles away) less than three hours after extraction of a wisdom tooth that Dr…read more Eckert described as "fractured, with deep roots, near a nerve and very close to an existing crown" (in other words, he gave me every possible warning about what could go wrong), I am ASTOUNDED at how seamless and soothing the actual procedure was, both in regard to the extraordinary care taken by his staff---shoutouts to Lillia for her compassionate scheduling efforts, Kristina and Katrina for their impeccable teamwork---in preparing me for the procedure, and to Dr. Eckert's astonishingly smooth performance of the extraction. His calm, engaged manner, always answering questions, and checking in about my comfort, made the experience that much more meaningful. The caring, empathetic professionalism of these folks reminds me of the Michelin (restaurant) Guide, in that they colloquially rate restaurants as "worth a stop," "worth a detour" or "worth a voyage." I felt that this experience was entirely worth the journey.

Over the past ~5 years, I have made a point to specifically schedule appointments with Cindy as my hygienist and Dr. Park as my dentist. Cindy is incredibly talented at her craft--meticulous attention to detail and extremely careful around sensitive areas. She also asks detailed questions and relays important facts to the dentist prior to the evaluation. My cleanings with Cindy are the best I've had, despite having gone to many dental practices in many different cities. She's also an incredibly kind human, and despite seeing me once/6 mos., recalls personal details about my life and follows up with thoughtful questions about family, friends, etc. She's incredibly skilled in the art of patient care and has made my bi-annual check-ups something I look forward to. As a child and young adult, I had a lot of poor dental work and, as a result, can be very nervous about the dentist. Dr. Park has been incredible at quelling those fears. She recently replaced a very deep filling I had from years past, and it was the most superb dental care I've ever received. She's flawless with the novocaine injection, using a distraction technique that completely removes any pain associated with the injection. She ensured the area was completely numb before beginning any work, and despite being near the nerve, was meticulous in removing all cavity and filling the tooth perfectly. She was patient with my fears of feeling the drill and worked at a slow pace and informed me of all the steps she was taking along the way. It takes a lot for me to trust a dentist and I trust her completely. That's also true with her regular examinations--she carefully watches for any deterioration of older fillings, but never recommends work preemptively. Dr. Park is truly a master of her craft, and I hope she will be my dentist for years to come. This is a good time to mention that since leaving Boston for NYC, I make a point to come back once every 6 mos. for my checkups--while I'm sure there are plenty of nice practices in the big apple, I can't imagine it's easy to find such a wonderful hygienist/dentist duo. Thank you to both Cindy and Dr. Park for their superb patient care. This was the worst visit I've had to any doctor in my life and I literally left in tears. I was a…read morenew patient and came during my work day expecting that a standard exam and cleaning would be about an hour. After a slew of X-rays and scans, the Dr. came in with 0 introduction, looked at my teeth for 5 mins and proceeded to tell me I had a plethora of issues (which I've never had before). She told me I had "a handful" of cavities.. what doctor describes anything to a patient as "a handful" and doesn't give specifics? She also said I needed two crowns and had gum issues. I have never had issues like this before in my life so for someone to pop in for five mins with no further explanation and then leave was upsetting. The hygienist then told me that I needed a "deep cleaning" which would require two visits and for them to numb each side of my mouth. They actually refused to give me a regular cleaning. A front desk person came into the room with a packet of info about the cleaning and sat there and stared as she told me to sign - super awkward and made it uncomfortable to read through the info/costs. Finally after TWO HOURS I left with only HALF my mouth numbed and cleaned. I had to then come back at a later date for the second half of the cleaning. During both visits I asked for receipts to be emailed to me - I didn't get it either time. I followed up afterward and got one of the two receipts. I also had to email them five times to get copies of my X-rays. Oddly no one EVER followed up about making an appt for the so called cavities or crowns. If I had such issues, wouldn't it be imperative that I make an appt right away? The front desk only insisted that I make an appt in three months for my next deep cleaning. When I told her I'd check my a schedule and get back to her she said "no, let's make one now to get it on the schedule". I said no thanks and left. They are unbelievably persistent about scheduling in advance and will continue to hound you via calls, texts, and emails. Take a look at the other Citidental Boston location Yelp reviews where people have had very similar experiences to mine. Avoid this place at all costs. I have since gone to other dentists who confirmed the so-called work CITIDental suggested that I needed was unnecessary.

I'd also say I'm very religious about my oral hygiene. I was told each time that I should get 2 fillings as a preventative measure. Each time there was this sense of urgency. First, they could fit me in that day (lucky me!). And then the second time, it was the following week. I've now been to a different dentist twice here with nothing but positive feedback. I can't say definitely they were taking advantage of me not being a dentist and charging me for unnecessary things, but it feels that way. The office staff was nice, but I would highly suggest going somewhere else for dental care in Boston.

Hate to do this, however I hope it does at least one person some good…read more I have been going to this dentist for over 10 years. Cleanings have been fine, staff has been fine, Dr. S. always pleasant and friendly. Heck I did a gum graft that I needed and that has been swell (oh and redoing a root canal). I have taken no issue with the quality of the work that has been performed. That said, I do caution (potential) patients of upsell and/or unnecessary procedures. I felt like there was advice to do work that was not yet necessary or more elaborate then a less expensive alternative, especially early-on as a patient. A few weeks ago one of my bridges came out. I called in the evening, the doctor called me back that night which is great, and they fit me in the next day to temporarily cement it back in. The dentist looked at my teeth and said I need an implant a sinus lift and of course crowns for the adjacent teeth. He sent me to the front to get the quote and schedule the appointment. The quote was $26,095.00. Yes, $26,095.00. I asked if this included any insurance and I got a simple "your insurance won't cover this." (And it cost $450 to temporarily recement it.) Did I mention that I have four of these bridges that are all the same age? That's $104,380.00 if I play this scenario out. One hundred thousand dollars...100 large... one year at Harvard (w/o financial aid)... 1.4x average annual US salary... ~3 years of child care...a lifetime supply of Chicken Nuggets (that one's a guess). For a handful of teeth. So I presented the issue to two other dentists - one I had seen previously and one I had not. After looking at x-rays and the bridge, both agreed that simply recementing the existing bridge was plenty reasonable. The bridge is in excellent condition and the teeth underneath were as well. I could redo the bridge for maybe $2-4k to eliminate a little gap between the bridge and the gum - but neither of them thought it was critical. Today I had the new dentist recement it back in. They polished off the old cement and put it back in. $419 if my insurance doesn't cover any of it. The option I was presented with was 62x more expensive then a perfectly reasonable and practical alternative. Again, I have not had an issue with the quality of work provided here. However, if you get an expensive treatment plan from them, then it might simply be the best treatment that is available today. Does that mean it's the only treatment option? No.
