I had emergency surgery by Dr Mahoozi and I was extremely nervous. Not only did he and his team put my mind at ease, they did a phenomenal job with a very intensive procedure that included rebuilding part of my jaw bone. I had gum flap surgery in December and didn't know what to expect but the doctor and his team made me feel so comfortable both before and during the procedure. This is a long read, but I'm writing this so other people paying out of pocket do not get conned by this establishment. I chose this office because I got referred here by my primary dentist, and I saw positive reviews, but I should've payed closer attention to the 1-star ratings, because now I totally understand. On consultation day, I was given a price for everything that was going to be done to my mouth, and I called multiple times before surgery day, specifically to confirm pricing, and each time I was given the same exact price. Surgery day came, and when the periodontist was done, I went to the receptionist to pay and he looked at me in complete confusion, asking that I pay $1,500 more than the price they originally gave me (charging me for 2 things that I was never told would be at any additional cost). No matter how many times I asked beforehand, NOT ONE TIME did the periodontist or receptionist ever state the new amplified amount until AFTER surgery. With a swollen mouth, I literally had to fuss until they adjusted the balance back down to what it originally was. I'm honestly still so shocked that they could tell someone a solid price multiple times, then when surgery is over, they would add on HUNDREDS of dollars. I planned to go back to have him revise 4 teeth that I wasn't 100% satisfied with, and again, they tried to BS me. To revise 4 teeth, they were going to charge me the same price I paid for 16 teeth AND an additional $100. I explained this situation to my new periodontist in complete detail, and he was literally appalled at how poorly O'Trafford handled this whole situation. I'd never refer anyone to this place. Decent work, yes, but the way they communicate and handle their billing is extremely shady. read more

I went to Dr. Mahoozi for a dental implant after a failed root canal. Dr. Mahoozi is also a professor of General Dentistry at Boston University who came recommended by a former dentist / student. He is one of the most experienced and competent professionals you can find who does dental implants. The staff is very nice and the practice is kind of a family business. His wife was working the front desk on my last trip and his father was there (not working the desk though) on one trip as well. Prior to Dr. Mahoozi, I consulted with an endodontist who wanted to charge me around $1000 to poke around the failed root canal and possibly fix it. That was after having already spent $600 on the original root canal. With insurance, it costs around as much to get a root canal, have it fixed by a specialist, and get a new crown as it costs to just get a dental implant in the first place. So rather than pay the endodontist, I opted to just go with a dental implant. Based on his experience, Dr. Mahoozi guessed that I had a cracked root, and he verified this was the case during the extraction. A cracked root wasn't a possibility that the "specialist" even bothered to mention. If you have a cracked root, then the root canal cannot be fixed, and the tooth has to be extracted. But you have to pay the same fee to the endodontist regardless. So I would have entirely wasted my money at the endodontist and had to get an extraction followed by an implant or bridge anyway. Dr. Mahoozi comes across as very competent and efficient at what he does. The staff are very friendly as well. If you need a root canal, I would recommend getting one from your general dentist first. But if the root canal has ANY issues, I wouldn't bother with an endodontist, as the results are very uncertain and you are potentially just wasting your money. Dental implants, on the other hand, are a proven technology with a very high success rate. And when you have a competent periodondist like Dr. Mahoozi, you can't go wrong. read more

I don't think you can go wrong with Dr Mahoozi. He is very good and very professional. His office space is clean, modern and you don't have to wait in it for too long. I had a bad experience at a periodontist in Somerville and went to Dr Mahoozi and it was so much better. The first time I went to Dr. Mahoozi I had dental insurance but it was awful and did not cover any of the work I needed done. He gave me a discount on the work since I was paying out of pocket. I went to him for a dental implant and everything is working out well. He referred me to a dentist in Brookline to finish the work and I look forward to it being done. read more

My husband just had part his implant at this clinic. They have cheated us and did not tell us the actual cost for the entire implant to be finished at their clinic until he had his tooth extracted and bone replacement grafted. We called several times before the treatment to ask the entire cost and the receptionist responded that she already calculated the entire cost which ended up to be half of the process. The price is very expensive at this clinic after we found out the total cost. We didn't finish the whole process here and found another dentist to finish. This review is for Dr. Haghani. Dr. Mona Haghani is the endodontist at this clinic. I first saw her for a consultation about pain and some swelling on my lower jaw. After taking pictures, she said that it was not any of my tooth, and it must be nerve pain not related with any of the tooth and I should try cold compress, and ignore. About the swelling on one side of my face, she just said that not everybody's face is symmetric. Even though I mentioned to her, this issue is new, and my face never looked like this, she just tried to convince me otherwise, and ignored my input. However, she advertised about botox treatment for tmj, etc. as she put it "it would help with my square face". The following weeks, I got deep cleaning with Dr. Mahoozi. Immediatley after, my lower jaw became extremely painful, and swelling became very apparent. I saw Dr. Mona Haghani again as an emergency case this time. She was able to see the swelling this time (!) and pointed one of the tooth on that side, blamed it for an old root canal treatment, which she had ruled out on the first encounter. She put me on double antibiotics for 10 days, and scheduled for re-treating the old root canal. The x-rays did not show anything different from the first encounter, I was not convinced, but since I was in so much pain, I agreed. 10 days later, when I arrived for my appointment, she came in 15 minutes late with hands full with shopping bags. She took me to the chair immediately. They put numbing paste, but she was rushing so badly to make up for the lost time, without even waiting for the numbing gel to work a bit, she started injecting Novocaine. Injection itself hurt terribly but as my pain threshold is too high I did not contest. As I started to feel chest pain and short of breath I was holding my heart at that point.But immediately after the first syringe, she started the other syringe of Novocaine. I started feeling dizzy, shaking like crazy, but all she was saying to me to calm down, it is normal, it is epinephrine making me like that, and everyone has this experience, I should not make such as big deal out of it. I have 16 root canals in my mouth done by different dentists in different countries since my teenage years, and never experienced anything like this. I also never experienced any dentist performing injections that painful, not caring for a patient who is about to die on the chair. I left the room, called 911 by myself as she really was all for waiting for me to die right there talking nonsense. From my experience ( 3 different encounters), all I can say that she really does not care well-being of her patients, I would suggest anyone to avoid her. Also, the front desk staff has problems with registering the appointments to the calendar. They have ADD or something. I did not have any issues with Dr. Mahoozi (periodontist) or the dental assistants. They were very professional and through. read more

I had a great experience at O'Trafford Dental. The gums on my lower teeth were receding and I needed to have a skin graft to restore my gums. While it's not the most pleasant surgery (which I have had once before with a different doctor), it went much better than I had anticipated. The surgery was a success, the recovery was not too bad. I would highly recommend O'Trafford, and Dr. Mahoozi. If I ever need to have this surgery in other parts of my mouth, I will be back. read more

What a ripoff! went there on January 2017 of this year for a consultation for periodontal evaluation and immediately told I needed all kinds of procedures, scaling, root planning, and even gum surgery! After the consultation I was hit with a $41.00 consultation fee which I was not aware I have to paid since they did not mention anything about it! I went for a second opinion with my regular dentist in Gentle dental and was told I do not need any of those expensive procedures. Consultation with Gentle dental free of charge. I went for a third opinion with a dental office in Cambridge which I am seeing now, also no charge for consultation, and told me if I were to do the scaling, surgery and other high cost procedures it will do more damage to my gums than good!!! Man, this guy is all in it for the money, damage your gums and I will be with them for life! Today, 7/26/2017 I finally got my bill $41.00 I will gladly pay for it cause I'm an honest guy. Dr. Mahoozi is without question one of the best individuals I've encountered in the dental field both personally and professionally. I went in for gum surgery and two wisdom teeth pulled and heard horror stories from others who have had similar procedures. These people obviously did not go to Dr. Mahoozi. I had two choices the day I had surgery, help put up my office Christmas tree OR get gum surgery and I'm glad I got the surgery. He explains what needs to be done, very even-handed, and asks at all times how things are going during the procedure. Was available by phone or email after for any questions and his office even followed up during the week to see how I was doing. Let me begin to tell you that I am generally scared of going to a doctor. After meeting Doctor Mahoozi I just wish that all the other doctors were as good as him. I had my two wisdom teeth out last year and the surgery was really smooth and Doctor Mahoozi took his time to explain to me how the process would be . He called me the day after the appointment and asked how I am doing. I also had to do surgery this year because I had to take out my other two wisdom teeth. The process of surgery took about 30 minutes and I was good after a day. I even had no bleeding and to be honest with you I just took Ibuprofen and I almost had no pain at all. He is very professional and on time, I never waited outside his of his room to get to my appointment. Now that I met doctor Mahoozi I would go to him for any dental issues I might have. I saw Dr. Mahoozi for an exatraction of a molar this past summer. I had an old crown/root canal that went bad and there was an abcess. I was a nervous wreck when I went in, and also scared of the expense, but Dr. Mahoozi put me at ease and even worked out a payment plan with me. He told me all costs up front. He has an excellent "bedside manner" and makes himself available and easily accessible to his patients. I was even able to text message him when I was having some strange post-op symptoms and he responded to me right away and called a prescription into my pharmacy that night. Dr Mahoozi is the BEST! At first, I was nervous, as he recommended my daughters gums to be cut to evaluate her fractures she sustained from a MVA. When I arrived for the appt with my daughter, his associate, Dr Mani was there. The two decided on a special type of CT to examine the fractures. We opted for that and so happy we did. Not only did it save her from cutting open her gums x3 teeth at 1200 a piece but the CT showed the fractures were in a place where it can accept a crown after a root canal. No Implant on all teeth was the best news in the world as I, for one, like to save the teeth. Dr Mahooze also told us that her bottom chipped tooth would also require a root canal. It wasn't bothering her at the time and I wondered why it can't just be covered with a bond, but I am no dentist, periodontist etc, so what do I know? i took her for a second opinion on that chipped tooth and that periodontist knew nothing that was told to us by Dr Mahoozi. Lux Dental, a periodontist(second opinion) told Nichole this "and as far as your chipped tooth, leave well enough alone. You don't need a root canal. It's not bothering you so just see your dentist" I asked, well doesn't she need a root canal based on trauma? No was the answer. Guess What. Just as Dr Mahoozi told us from day 1, Nichole developed pain and needs the root canal. Dr Mahoozi told us I know she isn't having pain now, but she will and she does need a root canal. This office is excellent, they know what they are talking about. The entire staff are phenomenal!!! Highly recommend this office!! read more
