Yes, this was a 'Plan B' choice and with our experience, that seem apt. We visited on a Saturday evening and the place was not empty but neither was it full. It was, however, a surprising contrast to the place we'd just left. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly. Our server came by introduced herself and asked about drinks. My perception is that she was slightly exasperated as all of our party of 5 asked only for water. Nonetheless she was generous enough to bring us glasses and a pitcher - thank you. Oddly, despite a fairly long menu we all struggled to choose an entree we really wanted. We settled on Chicken Fingers, Fish & Chips, Cowboy Burger, Cheeseburger, & Chicken Wings. Our orders all arrived at the table together and the time required seems about normal. Everything tasted okay but that's it, just okay. Overall there's just an overarching mediocrity about the whole experience. Applebee's was an okay choice given our circumstance but it certainly wouldn't be a place we'd normally seek out.

The shrimps were overcooked and tough, but the chicken was soft and well cooked. The sautéed onions elevated the entire dish with its delicious aroma! My husband got a basic steak and daughter got a cheeseburger. Our server (I believe, Monica), was very friendly. Got me a new water as the first cup I received was slightly sweet tasting. She also got us a box and paid the bill in advance, as I told her my daughter was getting sleepy when she came to checkup on us.

We ordered eggs benedict with by far the best Hollandaise sauce you can get. The poached eggs were medium with lots of yolk to spread on the peameal bacon and english muffin. The shredded potato hashbrown is addictive and massive portions. The baked beans were nice and warm to compliment your breakfast. I ordered the 3 eggs over easy with 3 sausages and 3 bacon. They actually serve 4 eggs which I assume they are using medium sized eggs. That's OK as the extra makes up for the smaller eggs. You get a choice of toast ( white, whole wheat or rye) along with shredded potato hashbrowns or home fries. My mother-in-law ordered the Western Omelet with ham and onion. She really enjoyed the dish and she managed to eat almost half of the dish. The coffee is bottomless and the service is very friendly. I suggest dressing up for the cold weather because you might have to lineup outside the restaurant. I don't think they take reservations and it's first come first serve.

We were greeted and seated quickly and our server Cass was excellent and very attentive in explaining the special and taking our drink order. She came by several times to check up and I appreciate the care. Those soup dumplings arrived and they're still just as much as a knock out as they usually are. Full of flavour, with a kick of spice, I really enjoyed them. The half priced wings were also worth it with a side of fries. I chose the classic buffalo which were spicy in all the right ways. The wings are smaller compared to other Wing places but they compensate by giving more. The fries were truly delicious, crispy and well seasoned. I really enjoyed the fries and typically get them with every meal. My only issue is that the bathrooms require some upkeep and maintenance as there are several pieces that require repair. I don't think the toilet paper holder should be held together by painter's tape. Overall I've been here many times and will come back many times.

I was so thirsty that by the time I chugged 1/3 of my beer, I realized that she had brought a wrong beer. I decided to let it go and just drank the rest. The food did not fare much better as my daughter's pizza flatbread did not taste like it did last time. Maybe a different chef was cooking tonight? My royal Bangkok bowl was tiny in size and all the noodles were broken into small pieces which made it unappetizing. The sauce on it was too sweet and eggy for my taste and I won't be ordering it again. My husband's burger was the best pick of the night. All this for $96 made for a pretty ho hum experience. Next time, I will take a sip of my beer first so I don't get stuck drinking something I did not order.

Tip: The sirloin and lobster tail meal for $25 is a great deal…read more After completing a bunch of errands on Saturday, I was ready for lunch. I was in the eastern end of Scarborough, close to Pickering. I first thought of having breakfast for lunch. I would only have 45 minutes to enjoy my food at the nearest breakfast joint. I felt like a steak. I did a search for Chuck's Roadhouse and this one in Pickering was close by. I drove over there, which took roughly nine minutes. It's located in a small plaza. I managed to find a parking spot fairly close to the entrance. I backed my car into the spot and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a friendly woman. She asked me whether I wanted to sit at the bar or the dining area. I went with the latter. I got a menu. I visit Chuck's regularly that I have my usual order. I got the following items: - Diet Coke - Sirloin and lobster tail meal with mashed potatoes and gravy I upgraded my fries. I got mashed potatoes with gravy instead. I asked for a medium doneness for my steak. I placed my order with Domnica, who was extremely attentive and friendly. I needed to use the washroom. I headed over there, dodging two male servers who were kind to get out of the way. My bladder needed attention after three hours of hydration. The women's washroom was clean. There were three stalls. The one that I used was clean. The lock didn't lock properly, but it was good enough to not let anyone in. I got back to my booth and my Diet Coke was on the table. It was cold, fizzy, and delicious. I ended up having a couple of refills during my time here. It was great that I had a huge screen with four different sports happening. I saw the Colorado Avalanche crush the Detroit Red Wings. The Winnipeg Jets pre-game show was on after a women's tennis match. I watched women's curling from Mississauga. There was Formula 1 racing that I had to ignore because any sport on an ice surface interests me a lot more these days. My server put bottles of Chuck's steak sauce and Heinz ketchup on my table. I didn't use any of them, but was glad that I had options. It didn't take long for my meal to arrive. It looked so good. I was so hungry that I went into devour mode. My steak was excellent. It was seasoned nicely and cooked as I liked it to be. So good! The lobster tail was succulent. The clarified butter was excellent with the lobster tail morsels. Frankly, I ended up dunking everything into the butter. My mashed potatoes were so comforting. I usually pour the gravy over the mashed potatoes. I did the reverse. It was enjoyable dunking mashed potatoes into the flavourful gravy. I also dunked sirloin cubs into the gravy. Yum! The corn was yummy. I'm so glad that it's no longer corn on the cob. It's so much easier shovelling kernels of yumminess into my mouth. My server asked if I wanted anything else. I was stuffed. I got the bill. I paid with a credit card. I held my phone to the payment machine after specifying a tip. Done! I stayed a bit longer to finish my Diet Coke while watching the Jets pre-game show. I then used the washroom before heading out. The scary part was walking into the washroom with three loud women speaking Vietnamese to one another. The oldest woman did not lock her stall properly, so I saw more than I had wanted. What I don't get is that these two woman walked the third woman over to the washroom. They stood in front of the sink. Shouldn't they have noticed that the door was wide open? They were loud talking to one another after this incident. Personally, I would have been mortified if someone had seen me partially naked in a public washroom. I came out of the stall to wash my hands. The two women were staring at me. I stared right back with my you-didn't-help-your-friend-and-I-need-therapy-now stare. They stopped looking at me. So weird. Other than seeing a half-naked woman, I had a great lunch here. (53)

Updated review July 19 2025…read more Our most recent visit to Kelseys Roadhouse was a bit disappointing. We had an issue with the chicken fried chicken. The chicken had an unusual crunchy texture. This appears to be a frozen chicken breast not fully cooked through in the deep fryer. The server was really nice and asked us what we wanted to do. We asked her to get the kitchen to make a new order. The second order came out piping hot and chicken cooked all the way through. No crunchy or rubbery pieces of chicken this time. The lemon pepper calamari was part of their summer menu. There's mixture of calamari, Jalapeños, bell peppers. The breading was crispy and tossed in lemon pepper seasoning. The breading was slightly too heavy. The best part of the meal was the beef tenderloin fajitas. The beef tenderloin was served on a sizzling skillet. This dish is good for sharing and filled us up. Overall, the service was really good and our server checked on us regularly. I feel the food didn't hit the mark this time around. Perhaps an off day for the kitchen today.
