Was told headlight bulb replacement was a "big job" because of all the things that would have to be moved to get at the bulb and that I would have to make an appointment and come back another time. Laziness, they didn't even pop the hood. Went to the parts store, got a bulb, and replaced it in under two minutes. Don't waste your time, they won't bother to give you two minutes of theirs. Wondering how much they would have actually charged me for this "big job" had I made an appointment and brought it back to them.

I no longer trust them and have found a new shop…read more I was a loyal Harry's customer for eight years - oil changes, brakes, tires, inspections, and other repairs on my Hyundai. Service was reliable and fair-priced. But today I walked out dissatisfied, annoyed, and vowing never to return. It seems they've hired some incompetent mechanics and are now unwilling to make things right after their screw-ups. Some weeks ago, I got my routine oil change (now $50), but found an oil puddle on my garage floor the next morning. When I went back to Harry's, the mechanic said it was "residual oil" that spilled onto the engine splash shield during the oil change and the dripping would soon stop. But days later it was still dripping a lot, so I went back again. The same mechanic now told me it was a faulty drain plug gasket, and he replaced it no charge. I was annoyed that it had taken three trips to Harry's to get the oil change right, but at least the problem was solved. Over the next week, however, I noticed oil was still dripping, although not as badly as before. So I brought it back again. This time, the same mechanic told me fixing the leak would now cost $815 plus tax. The timing chain cover gasket was leaking, he said, and it's an expensive repair. To add to my disappointment, they charged me $30 for the estimate, promising me a credit when I came back for the $815 repair. Meanwhile, he said, I should just live with the leak if I didn't want to spend that much on the car. But it seemed like a strange coincidence that a timing chain cover would start leaking the same day as the oil change ("it happens," Harry's mechanic told me), so I went to another shop recommended by a friend. That shop said the drain plug gasket was leaking - I didn't need any $800 repair. They replaced the gasket, charging me $58 for the parts and labor. The car hasn't leaked a drop since. Today, sure that the leak had been fixed, I went back to Harry's. I asked them (politely) to refund the $30 they charged me for the faulty diagnosis and for the $58 to fix the leak they should have noticed during my three follow-up visits after the oil change. (Of course, I was also irritated to think I could have paid for an unnecessary $815 repair, but I didn't mention it.) They told me, sorry, they wouldn't reimburse me without the faulty drain plug gasket replaced at the other garage. That's a ridiculous requirement, since the garage wouldn't keep a faulty gasket for a week. And the old gasket wouldn't prove anything. It surely had been the problem because the leak stopped after the repair. But Harry's said, "That's our policy." They didn't have the courage to discuss the matter face-to-face, talking with me only through their receptionist. All she would say was, "It's a he-said she-said situation, so they won't do anything without the gasket." (The receptionist was polite, but it's impossible to discuss an issue like this through a third party. That's probably why they wouldn't face me.)

I spoke with Tony on a Friday and he was able to fit me in on a Wednesday of the following week (Memorial Day weekend) and the car was completed early Thursday morning. Tony was extremely knowledgable going over each component and the steps they would take to install/repair while keeping my bottom line in mind. Tony even dissuaded me from respraying the front bumper cover (didn't need it anyway since the winglets would cover the small rock chips and the labor cost to dismantle and reinstall would be high) as well as not going the route of replacing/painting a totally new trim piece. I am ridiculously meticulous with my car and Coastal truly exceeded all my expectations especially on their workmanship, professionalism, communication and overall cost. I expected the job to be a lot more $$ for what they accomplished - the price was lower than the estimate. Tony is a straight shooter and his honesty and transparency is refreshing. I did not have any paint work or blending done but in my mind, I would not hesitate at all to return to Coastal for any of my vehicle's bodywork/painting or custom installation needs. Mom had no idea what was wrong with her 2007 Toyota Highlander and it would have been so easy to take advantage of her in charge her well over $1,000 for what turned out to be nothing more than a fuse. I walked into the office as she was writing the $30 check that she had to force him to take. Every now and then we get lucky in life find an. honest man who does an honest days work for an honest day's pay. Thank you to 286 auto. While the vehicle was in their care, Greg backed it into another parked car, causing what appeared to be a minor dent. She initially did not want to file an insurance claim. After heavy rain shortly after, the car developed significant water intrusion in the rear. The dealership later confirmed body damage but advised the issue would be difficult to repair due to the water-related nature of the damage. Regardless of whether the water intrusion is ultimately determined to be related, the shop has refused to provide insurance information for the damage that occurred while the car was in their care, despite repeated requests from both my mother and her insurance company. The lack of transparency and accountability made this situation far more stressful than it should have been.

We also bought an older (but nice looking) RAV4 for our daughter as her first car probably 10 years ago from their lot, and she's still driving it with almost 300,000 miles on it. I like going in there, they treat you almost as if you are their friend and it's a real personal touch like in the old days, Andy remembers my name --nobody does that anymore because most people don't seem to care, but they do and it feels good, if I'm being honest. I am surprised to see some people saying it is too expensive and I will probably concede that it is not the bargain basement of car places but neither is the professional level of expertise and what you get for the money. In talking to a coworker of mine in Hampton NH and one of my neighbors about some car issues, they go to the dealerships where they bought their cars and they paid a lot and both had problems with the work, my neighbor always gets a little bit of a rough reception at his car dealership in Peabody and they give him an argument about everything, but that has never been our experience here, not even a hint of any ill treatment, 100% the polar opposite. As I said, we have never felt we overpaid here and have always been satisfied with the repairs. It is hard to find a good mechanic that you trust, and Andy and his wife, who works there also but I believe only a few days a week, are real sweet people and they really love and respect their customers in my opinion.
