Loved this place prior to our last visit, now never going back. The doorman was a complete dick, unwarranted. Yes, this is a dive, doormen or bartenders with attitude is given, and I gravitate towards everything that comes with a dive, but this guy was out to ruin people's nights before stepping through the threshold. Great dive bar with a kitchen that puts out burgers and fries and some other random bar food. No chicken wings which is what I was looking for. Prices are very fair and the staff is very friendly. Met some friendly locals there on my short visit to Bozeman. Live music almost every night, pool table, bar food, good prices (especially these days)...what more can you ask for? This place is not trying to be something they are not, which is the mistake so many restaurants and bars make. If I could give zero stars I would, came to this bar to have late night food and the bar tender took our out of state ID's and broke them in half right in front of our faces. We are very much of age (27&30) and tried to tell her that but she broke them and told us to call the cops if we have a problem. Tried to show a second form of ID but no. read more

Fantastic "Dive Bar" in the "Barmuda Triangle" of Bozeman, Montana. Check out all the tables. Each table top is dedicated to a specific Montana State University Class Year with student names carved on their specific class year table. Overflow carved table tops are mounted on the bar's ceiling. The bartender is super friendly and their Pastrami sandwich ($10.00) was spot-on with our Bozone Amber Ale Draft Beer ($4.50)/pint. The booth seating are showing their wear .... Something you expect in a Dive Bar .... PERFECT! read more

This bar is great if you know what you're in for. It's smoky, it's loud, it's rough, and it's no place for a young girl. Maybe that's why it still has a meaty little chunk of my heart after all these years. Before some sort of sanitary revolution occurred, the floor was covered in ashes, peanut shells, and dogs. Now only the shells and the smoke remain. Reasons to go: stiff drinks for the best price in town, a great bloody mary (and actually, lunch at the Hauf is surprisingly good...if you come with your hangover), Tex Tucker, the least pretentious bartenders in town, open mic night (for better or for worse), and a story to tell the morning after. Things to remember: if you're female, your bathroom will become co-ed at some point during your experience. This will happen suddenly and for reasons unknown. Your bathroom experience BEFORE this occurs will not be stellar either. read more

Came in to watch some friends of mine perform on a Friday night and within two minutes of arriving an employee comes over and asks for my ID. Fair enough, I show it to him. He claims it's fake and tells me to leave... I insist it's a mistake, but to no avail, and I get kicked out. Now the food, beer, and music is fine at the Haufbrau. Based on that it's a solid 4/5, but due the fact they are kicking perfectly legal patrons out on baseless claims makes me have to drop the score to a one. read more

Best hidden gem of lunch spots in Bozeman! Homemade food, daily diverse specials, great drinks and plenty of beers on taps. To top it off super friendly service and great prices. I've been having lunch at the hauf for over 25 years and it consistently ranks above the rest for quality of service, prices and food. Know what you are getting into! Most of the people here, have been coming for decades - MSU rejects abound. The mix is of techys and muddy boots, Artists to, well, Art. Hippys and and occasional Trump voter all gather for happy hour. The folks who run it, are the kids of the retired owners, and we have all watched them grow up around this place. Some bone fragments in the corner, shells everywhere, and the bathrooms are a perv's dream. (mens) Has not been cleaned since Reagan was in office - but the Kitchen is clean and run by a thoughtful set of cooks. Good food, great music, stiff drinks, at a good price. read more

Great local dive in downtown Bozeman. I made a lot of friends when I walked in the door with my Boston University shirt. I guess the folks in Bozeman like Beantown. GREAT beers on tap...some of the best I have seen in 2 years. Plus, the atmosphere is just right- dingy, dirty, but fun...they have open mic on Sun/ Mon and apparantly a local, who could give Neil Young a run for his money, plays the rest of the week. If you're in Bozeman- definately swing by this joint. You won't be sorry. read more

Well . . . this is definitely a dive. If you want to dive with the MSU-Bozeman locals this is the place to do it. I might suggest bringing some hand sanitizer and a tazer gun if you don't work construction. On the plus side---this bar has the best open mic/live music that I've heard in years. Bozeman has a pretty sophisticated live music crowd for a town of this size and this is a favorite for the edgier kids. Rock on with that diggaridoo (spelling?). read more

This is one of my all time favorite places in Bozeman, period. So much more than a divebar, the Hauf is a community all its own. Yes, the beer and food is great, but the customer service and overall good vibe of the place is what will keep you coming back. Keep in mind, it is a dive bar, so don't expect anything fancy. Place sucks. After working all day. Me and my coworker come in and after 20 min never given the time of day. Place also smells really bad. The girl bartender look at us several times but never even came over to get our drink order. A male bartender came behind the bar and look at us..... He never came over. Even for a dive this is a dive. But that doesn't mean it's a bad place. I agree with one reviewer that says it's ok if you know what you are in for. I don't recommend it for families. At. All. We shared the guacamole burger w/ fries & salad. The burger was tasteless and the fries were either over cooked, and/or reheated from prior frying. How can one mess up French fries???? The Hoff will always be my favorite bar in Bozeman. In a way I feel like I grew up there. Many a nights spent there many of things done there. It is old Bozeman at its best.
