Classic roadhouse bar. With live music. Bozeman locals know this place more as a music venue than a roadhouse dive bar. Stop by on a weekday before 5pm and you'll see this venue's other side. I've met a few regulars hanging out here on their way home from work telling stories of wars, women and motorcycle wrecks. Go for a show. But don't drive drunk. Bill, Cin, Phil, and Jeff know everyone's names and will lighten up your day with some classic tavern humor and light heartedness. They didn't think anything was wrong with the band who was performing using fake advertising to get people in the door. The event which was listed was totally different and not related at all. When I asked about it the staff just laughed and said you shouldn't believe everything on Facebook and thought it wasn't a big deal. read more

I wanted to get a good vibe of the local scene in Bozeman and went to check out this place and hear some live music on a Monday night. My take: I like! The music groups varied from the UK and from Portland. I pulled up a seat at the bar and spent the evening listening to good live music while also meeting some nice people. The bartender was friendly and kept an eye on me as I was flying solo that night, the doorman was cool as he actually tapped me on the shoulder to pay the cover (as he was playing pool and missed me as i came in). I heard it gets more packed on the weekend. Drinks were very reasonable and my only regret is that it may be a long time till I come back. I highly recommend to see live music and meet some nice, laidback people. read more

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. The last time I went to a show the door guy was drunk when I showed up fifteen minutes into the openers set. At the end of the night the same guy walked up to a friend and I and said "so which one of you is going to give me $40 for some weed?" He was beyond plastered at that point. Made both of us feel uncomfortable and we left. read more

Great place on the edge of town! When downtown is overflowing with tourists and students, head out here! It's a classic roadhouse - almost out of the movies classic. Big bar, nice selection of beer on tap, lots of tables, lots of space - pretty limited menu though - but don't let that turn you away. We were here in the late afternoon on a weekday and there were just a handful of folks enjoying something cold. Drink prices are very reasonable. Did I mention the free peanuts and fresh popcorn to munch on. read more

I would like to say that Sherrie P. and Alicia M. were both in the wrong place and should not have rated this place at all. They should have realized this before they even got through the entrance. The Filler is not for people looking to eat off toilets, and yes it can be an interesting experience seeing that bars at night might have drunk people. I could be wrong, but, I believe the bands playing provide their own staff to collect cover fees and watch the door, not the filler. I dont eat off toilets like Alicia and Sherrie, but I do eat wonderful homecooked lunch here on a regular basis, and it is about the last good place to see a show in Bozeman. The people that run this place are some of the nicest and genuine folks Ive run across in this town. Alicia thinks KFC should get 5 stars........... That says it all. This is the last best bar in Bozeman. As far as cleanliness? No one said you had to lick the floor. But you do have to go there to experience great music, real people, and a good old fashioned dive bar drunk. read more

The Filler is a classic smelly, dirty dive that brings in amazing performers. Heard Shook Twins twice there and had two very different experiences. Both times the music was terrific (it was the Shookies, after all) but the first time I went the crowd was so noisy and drunk that the band had to stop the show and wait for them to settle down. I've been to a lot of gigs in a lot of dives, but that night was the rudest crowd I've ever experienced. The band may as well been a jukebox playing in the background. The second time, it was a great crowd and the Shookies gave an inspired performance and had a lot of fun delivering. It was the right kind of rowdy crowd, people really responding to the band, dancing and singing along. I've talked to other people who have had similar experiences, good and bad. So be forewarned: it's a crap shoot whether you get a good crowd or bad crowd. If it's a performer you really love, I say it's probably worth taking your chances, so go you are on your own. There may be professional drunks and other sketchy people or there may be a bunch of fun twenty-something people having a great time. Beer selection is somewhat limited but very reasonably priced as are the cover charges. read more
