We had a fantastic time! Loved that the group size stays fair small. Its a more intimate tour weather you do private or public. you don't have to worry about missing anything or not being able to hear the stories. we went inside all but 1 stop. the Littlefield house doesn't allow anyone in the house part of the building, so that's why we couldn't, but it was enough from the outside lol. Loretta was our tour guide and she was super fun and a great storyteller! the only recommendation I'd have is that they get some sort of microphone for the van ride to maybe be able to provide more stories between stops. It's really hard to hear when you're in the back of the van so it's a little isolating. This tour was well thought out. We anticipated 3 hours might get a little long but the time went quickly and we were very entertained. Riding in a hearse is certainly not for everyone. There isn't any legroom and climbing in and out requires flexibility. I was glad I was with my girlfriend and not my husband as his 6'2" non flexible frame would have had to be in a coffin to fit! We are locals and took our friends on this tour who were visiting from out of town. We all LOVED IT. I think it helps if you aren't a skeptic and just have fun with buying into the (what I think are true) stories. Our tour guide was Diane. She was not only extremely knowledgeable on the subject, but just the sweetest lady ever. She showed us creeeeepy pictures that she and other tourists had taken. Some of them made the hair on my neck stand up! So much scary fun. I would say the one and only downfall is the hearse ride. It is extremely crammed in the back. There's not much foot space and there are no windows in the back. Be prepared if you are claustrophobic and/or get hot easily. Highly suggest wearing layers so you're comfy. Taking a tour with Haunted ATX was a great experience! Perfect combination between learning a bit more about the seedy history of Austin and listening to fun stories told by an engaging speaker. Julie was excellent in both driving us around in that big van through the busy streets of downtown and campus, as well as keeping the tour both entertaining & "educational". We made 4 stops total: The Tavern, The Littlefield House, The Clay Pit, and the Capitol Building with 4 different salacious histories The entire thing was about 3 hours so plan accordingly. This was the regular van tour and I also hear they have a hearse tour - which sounds like a lot of fun. If you get a chance, definitely book the hearse (it sells out fast). I'm a local and we did this as a present for a friend who's leaving town. I imagine it's also a fun visitor activity - we actually had two out-of-town couples with us. I'm only rating this 4 stars because the best ghost tour I ever did was in New Orleans and I keep comparing all other tours to that one. read more

Took a ghost tour with Loretta from Haunted ATX in a hearse! We went to the Driskill Hotel, the Clay Pit, the Littlefield Mansion, Texas Tower, and the Tavern. Lots of creepy stories. Many once were speakeasies and brothels with tunnels that led to the Capitol. We did not see any ghosts BUT I took photos of two different mirrors last night in the Clay Pit and this morning when I went to add photos to my social media post, one of them was gone!!!! My daughter and I had a great time. I am a long time Austin resident and I know a lot of the history. Carina was an excellent guide and taught me a number of things I didn't know. We also got to go into some areas you normally wouldn't see as a regular customer of the establishment. I also thought it was better traveling from place to place in an air conditioned van. Walking is great when the weather is cooler but we went when it's 90+ degrees outside with oppressive humidity. I highly recommend Haunted ATX and Carina. read more

Loved that we could get a private tour in a hearse! Being able to bring our own drinks was nice too. Our tour guide Loretta was great. very friendly and helpful and had a lot of information about stories at each location as well as pictures taken from other tours showing the spirits captured which was really cool. The stories of the deaths are not as "tragic" as some of the other ghost tours we have been on. Some of it was more historical and interesting facts about the city which were still very interesting. We also thought there would be more than 3 stops but it did take up all the tour time probably because of so much back stories and details. Went on a public tour hosted by Sydney, and had a great time. My fiance and I have been in Austin for about 5 years, and went into this not knowing much of the local history. We also didn't know we would be going IN to places! Sydney had some great facts and stories to share with us, along with her own experiences. We had some hiccups due to another group's timing, but we were able to roll with it without feeling interrupted. This is my spoiler-free review of the haunted hearse tour my group took on 5/3/2017. I was vacationing for a week in Texas with a group of friends. One of the suggestions was made to do a haunted tour as Texas is known for their haunted sights. What's special about this particular haunted tour is that getting from one point to another is via a swanky Cadillac hearse converted into a limousine! Tours last 2.5-3 hours and we stopped at 4 different haunted sites (check my recap for site descriptions). Each tour includes a 2-for-1 entree coupon for the Clay Pit Restaurant, one of the stops on the tour and supposedly serves good Indian food. CANCELLATION POLICY: Up to 80% of total cost if cancelled within 7 days of scheduled tour date and up to 50% if cancellation occurs within 48 hours. My friend Karen made all the arrangements for the tour. She got the VIP experience for our group of 4, which includes pick-up and drop-off at our preferred spot (a restaurant in downtown Austin) as well as complimentary champagne and non-alcoholic drinks. It was advised that the company be contacted for group discount rates. Karen took advantage of this and our group only ended paying about $80/person. It is about $45/person for the regular package but keep in mind that other people may join you if total group is less than 6 people. The hearse can fit 4-7 people depending on individual height, size and comfort level. I was comfortable sitting in the back seat with my legs propped in the seats. My other friends who were sitting close to the door seemed to be comfortable. Each of us had plenty of champagne throughout the whole trip and there was also plenty of sodas for the designated driver. Dustin was our driver while Diane was our tour guide. Dustin was also relatively new to the job and he was observing Diane conducting the tour so he could lead his own tours in the future. Dustin was a good driver and Diane was a very charming tour guide - she knew her haunted sites and told the stories of the resident ghosts in a way that captivated our attention throughout the tour. Cursory glances via websites only confirmed Diane's extensive knowledge (and serve as additional references for my recap). Our group had so much fun with this tour. I highly recommend this company for a fun night out in Austin as well as a more unconventional tourist activity. read more

What a great way to visit Austin. We had a great time with Sara our guide and learned so much about Austin and it's ghosts. Sara was very welcoming. She had water and sodas for us to drink. You will need to grab a drink if you are taking a tour in the summer. It gets hot in certain areas of the tour. During out tour, we even had a few lights flicker and an elevator playing tricks on people. Who cares if it was a ghost or not, it was fun and informative. I would do this tour again. Next time I will try taking the tour in a hearse. read more

Our tour guide, Jane, was an absolute delight--she was so energetic, incredibly knowledgable, very passionate about all things spooky, and clearly a gifted comedian and speaker. Looking at all these 5 star reviews I felt as though this would be great. But, sadly I have to agree with the other yelpers 1 star review. We were going to do the hearse tour for 99$ a pop , but they were sold out . So we went for the group van tour at 50$ a pop. We bought 5 tickets for an evening of fun , so we thought. Van pulls up and we load in. Me and one of our guest in the very back, the other three of ours were seated on first row.The van has third row seating with captain chairs as second row.It was a regular hot evening, with air conditioner blaring we couldn't hear the guide talking as she's driving so as requested she turned air down, now we are hot so we just have to suck it up and deal with it if we want to hear. We were going to 3 spots;The Tavern, The Littlefield mansion, The clay pit. Preface I already read up on all three locations history so I knew what to expect. Once at the Tavern the guide kept calling the spirt who is known here as the little girl Emily. Wrong.Emily was the mother. She showed the shoes on display and said" you probably wonder why the shoes found in the wall during renovations are so big for 10 year old "Emily,"well her mom couldn't afford shoes to fit". Nope, it's because their Emily ,THE MOTHERS, shoes. She didn't even get the names right. Then upstairs she tells stories of paranormal encounters other tours had, and acts as though she can see Emily's spirit. She said the little girl was tortured for 2 weeks by her hooker moms obsessed client a few houses away, killed,and brought back to Tavern and shoved in a crawl space . She says Tavern is haunted by girl,mother,client, never stated how mother and client die. But from what I read none of this is the actual story.She acts as though the door moved and she sees the little girl.We were heckled by customers as she told the wrong story with mixed up characters.Next is the mansion on UT campus. What a joke, we stood outside while she told 3 sentences about the house then told wild encounters by previous tours that only an idiot would believe.Them on to The Clay Pit( an Indian restaurant).We went down to basement were people were eating, its cramped down there , and she has 11 of us hovering over diners. We are clearly annoying the waiters being in their way, she's talking loud about dead bodies and such so a diner gets very upset and loud demanding the management. We are asked to go upstairs. Once upstairs, she takes us to a room and says she's not going in there cause she's seen too much but we can. She says she's seen a young girl on one tour lift up off ground and slammed down &dragged . When we leave that room, the hearse tour was going in, I overheard their guid tell them the exact thing" I'm not going in there I've seen to much" and told the girl story. Then our guide shows a few pics as she had at the other places claiming she or her previous tour people have taken . She once again acted as though she saw spirits.When she was wrapping it up, she blatantly admitted saying " I have to admit to you guys I lied,I got the pictures off the internet .So there you have it. Our guide never got the story or names right at the Tavern, the mansion was a wasted stop, we got ran off at The Clay Pit, she acted as though she saw spirits,she mainly told wild stories of previous tour encounters, and lied to our faces about pictures.you are honestly better off going to these places on your own since the tour is done anyways during the businesses open hours, maybe you won't get ran off like we did at The Clay Pit or heckled like we did at the Tavern.And how stupid to stand outside the mansion, I could have just drove by it and spared myself her bs stories of shutters shaking, door handle moving on previous tour, hardly any info on the mansion.
