From the moment we started, she was cheering us on, keeping the energy high, and encouraging us every step of the way. The two-hour hunt flew by. While we didn't manage to complete the entire list, we made up for it with a few fun bonus missions that boosted our final score. One of the most memorable moments? Walking into a dive bar on a mission to find a San Marcos native. The second we stepped in, the music didn't stop but it may as well have. Heads turned. It felt like we were aliens who accidentally landed in the middle of someone's regular Saturday scene. But, mission accomplished! We found a guy who looked like a leather-clad biker from a movie turns out, he was born and raised in San Marcos and couldn't have been more welcoming. The hunt turned into more than just a game. We discovered hidden corners of the city, chatted with locals, and learned that San Marcos is not just a great college town it's somewhere we would've loved to have spent our college years. What really stood out was the variety of activities throughout the hunt each one pushed us just a little out of our comfort zone and made us laugh, connect, and enjoy being in the moment together. I bought this experience through Expedia. I didn't have high hopes for it, but boy, it was worse. I'm a Disney fan and was looking for a challenge at Disney Springs. I thought I was going to meet somebody in person. Nope, all done through WhatsApp which should have been my first red flag. I expected there to be a picture hunt where I would need to find some objects. Nope, they wanted me to do silly videos include singing a Disney song in public, try on clothes I didn't buy and strut, and do a snooty review about candy at Goofy's. What's worse is that these challenges clearly were not made for Disney Springs. It seemed like it was AI. One of the challenges would require us to go to Epcot (a separate theme park). When I pointed this out, they said that "some people like to use cars for the hunt". Ummm, no. Nobody is going to Epcot for one challenge. About 20 minutes in, I said that this was bad and I wanted my money back. This is supposed to last for two hours, but I could see this was bad in the first 20 minutes. I now keep getting the same canned response about no refunds. "Tricia" said that she couldn't do anything because she was the lowly host, but suddenly she could offer me a free event anywhere else in the US. Nope, I want a refund. She said that she will "share it with management" . I emailed this company just to be sure. "Tricia" emailed me back a canned response about no refunds. Wait, "Tricia" is only a host, but she can handle the company email responses? I call her "Tricia" because I'm 99.9% sure that's not her name. In fact, I'm pretty sure she is in the Philippines and she has to stick to a script. I'm not sure if she's a bot at this point. I have a case opened with Expedia. I burned a PTO day on this. Horrible! We had difficulty getting the information to begin the hunt. Our meet up place was BLue Moon restaurant. Nobody was there. The restaurant was unaware of this. They said about once or twice a year this happens. They believe that it was a scam and they do not support this business. The Visitors bureau has no knowledge of this company and also believe that it is a scam. I was texting back and forth and pretty sure it was with a bot. I requested a refund stating the reasons why. The bot said that she could not help with this. She said that she would share it with Leadership above her and someone would reach out to me within a week. CRICKETS! I have disputed the charge with my bank. I tried some of the various emails that I could find for them but it showed up as a non-valid email addresses. Right now I think one went through. I reached out to Viator as the people who charged my credit card. They stated that they could do nothing. It has to come from the operator. This was supposed to be a fun trip for 6 woman turning 65 who have been best friends since 1972. Three of us lost our husbands. In addition, one woman lost her son at the age of 19 to suicide. I want my money back and I keep getting nowhere. Oh, one of the cues was to find a place that sells ice cream and do a yoga pose in front of it.............really!! Our son wanted to do a scavenger hunt for his 9th birthday and we came across Alley Kat Adventures. It sounded like a great concept and we were all excited to do something out of the ordinary. The first issue we ran into was not being able to open the Canva file our guide sent. We were finally able to open it on one phone but never were on the second phone. We only attempted the first 4 locations and then decided not to continue. All 4 of those locations were closed - either closed on the day we were doing the hunt or had been PERMANENTLY closed. If it had been one or maybe two locations that were closed, we would have continued, but to string kids along and have nothing work out made the "adventure" awful for them. Our guide was aware that each location wasn't working out because we weren't able to complete the tasks. He recommended we reach out about getting a refund. Before we booked they were very helpful and quick to respond. Since our failed adventure, we have sent in different emails and haven't heard back. I don't believe in writing negative reviews, but this really annoyed me, and I want to let others know what to expect. Unfortunately, when I purchased this virtual scavenger hunt through Viator, there were no reviews, it did not list "Alley Kat Adventures" as the operator, and only a brief description was available. Had I known what their version of a scavenger hunt entailed, I would not have bought it. First, requiring two purchases for a hunt that two people can complete with one phone feels like you're being overcharged. If the business wants to charge more for groups, they should do so upfront instead of misleading customers into thinking each person needs to pay individually when only one phone is needed to complete tasks. When my friend and I received the slides in Canva and read through them, we immediately found the activities childish and didn't want to participate. We expected an experience of finding things around town. Instead, we were told to complete "tasks" like interview a stranger, act out a tourism commercial for the town, or pretend to own a boat. Making fools of ourselves in public in a very busy vacation town was neither fun nor amusing. I requested a refund on the WhatsApp platform where we were receiving tasks within five minutes of starting the hunt, but was only offered credit from Alley Kat Adventures for my "unusual negative experience." Why would I want to try it again if I think the entire concept is ridiculous? Refunding the $40 would have been easy, cost the business nothing, and I probably would have forgotten about it by Monday. Shame on Alley Kat Adventures for poor customer service and not responding to my refund inquiry through their website form. read more

Don't fall for the positive reviews -- this "scavenger hunt" is a scam and money grab. There is nothing personalized to the town about the hunt. The few photos and business names included are easily grabbed off of Google. In fact, the coffee shop where we were instructed to begin our hunt is actually shut down, so they aren't even up to date on the few locations they include. Your remote host is in Texas, not the town you're in, so their "interactions" are ridiculous texts on WhatsApp like "where to next?" and "so proud of my peeps!" There are zero puzzles or riddles to solve and you won't learn anything about the town you're exploring. We aren't locals but we're regular visitors, so we know the area well. We paid actual hard-earned money to be sent a Canva document full of slides with challenges such as "what are the 5 hottest fashion trends in the city right now" and "what are the 3 smells of the town" and "conduct public yoga" and "take a Power Nap in an unconventional spot" and "follow us on Instagram." The very limited business names don't even include a challenge -- just the business name. Like I said, I could pick a town I've never been to and use Google street view to make up my own scavenger hunt like they did. There is no scavenger hunt here and nothing to find. We wrongly assumed at least one local would be included in the text thread to guide you through a tour of the town and that there would be solvable puzzles or clues to take you to the next spot. All you do is wander around aimlessly taking photos of idiotic things. My husband and I are 40 -- the last thing we feel like doing is photobombing strangers or trying to interact with a other tourists for useless points on an imaginary leaderboard. We purchased the Bellingham Bash Amazing Race and Scavenger Hunt for my husband's birthday because we had done several scavenger hunts in Bellingham and Vancouver BC (through different companies) and had a blast with them. this particular company looked exciting due to the description and the amazing race theme. We spent $150.00 for our group of six and had high hopes dues to the price and description. Unfortunately, it was a huge let down that we will never do again through this company. After meeting at the coffee shop to start we had trouble getting the app to work. It took us 20 mins just to figure it out and was not user friendly. We were sent a big cluster of slides of places to find, questions to ask and dares to do. However this meant traveling all over town trying to find place, parking fees, and ate up our time. Bellingham is big and the places were far apart. Our time started at 11 and ended at 1. We were only able to complete 6 sights and the only interaction we got from the host was a few comments after we sent in pictures. We are a fun group so we made the best of the situation but over all it was a waste of money and a huge disappointment. If you're looking for an awesome way to entertain a group of people who can only get together virtually, look no further! In all honesty, even with vaccines and folks getting back together, I'm still planning to book future online adventures with Kat bc it's such an easy, no fuss way to have some fun. Sometimes you want to socialize without leaving your couch, you know? We used Alley Kat Adventures as a team building event for my office during the pandemic, we did Living Room Legends. No one had any idea what to expect, but we ended up having a blast. Our host was clearly a talented actor, she was half the entertainment, we really enjoyed how she led the activity. The "missions" she sent us on were easy to do and it was really funny to see how different members of my team carried them out. So many team members messaged me privately afterwards to say what a great time they had. I'm surprised there's not more reviews for this on Yelp, but i guess that's bc they're booked through airbnb. If you look up the reviews there, you can see they are the top online experience in their category. Setting up a MUCH needed mini break in Santa Cruz, I checked out "Things to do in Santa Cruz". Well, being kids at heart; Ric and I decided to buy tickets for Alley Kat Adventures Scavenger Hunt. We didn't know what to expect as the explanation was vague; but we were game. We showed up ready for anything, except how much fun we were going to have! This IS NOT the scavenger game that you played as a child and it isn't that boring scavenger hunt that you went on through your companies retreat. This makes you think, makes you get creative, it gets you out of your comfort zone, it makes you rely on your partner and it surprises you in lots of terrible ways. The game began at 11:00a and generally runs 2 hours and that timing was almost exactly how long it took us. We learned so many things. We learned about Santa Cruz's past. We learned how much strangers love helping you play this game. We learned how to catch crabs! Yes, that sounds bad...lol, but it's true! My fiance is sweet, but a bit reserved. I am loud and bold. I tried to book this scavenger hunt experience for a work offsite. The hosts are not ok with a change in plans. I booked via Airbnb experiences. I needed to cancel and Kat offered a credit/reschedule--my event was still a week away. I asked if I could schedule for a different day. Kat said that I had to agree with her that she was making an exception and that she was bending over backwards for this reschedule. Honestly I was surprised, and I didn't agree. I thought she was being really stringent for even requiring that I needed to agree at all. I did not agree and she said I could not reschedule/use the Airbnb credit. What a great time! We were looking for something different to do on our vacation to a familiar spot, Cape Cod, and came across Alley Kat Adventures online. Not knowing what to expect we signed up for the next day. We were confirmed and contacted right away. The "adventure" started with a phone call getting us prepared (this was the best part of the journey). Then we are off on a thrilling experience to find such jewels as a permanently closed bookstore, then zipped across town to catch a sip of coffee at a permanently closed Coffee House on the other side of town and then quickly hurried over to the Consignment shop that has been closed for many many months to parade around in clothes that are no longer in the sealed up store. Alley Kat calls themselves your virtual cheerleaders, which is cool. They were so busy cheering for us, that we didn't hear from them for over an hour. It wasn't until we said we were quitting the race that they finally responded. They shared, with excitement, that once we saw all of the amazing destinations they initially gave us, they would provide us with a list of additional permanently closed locations to observe.
