I just have to say I NEVER post reviews but felt the need to post this. I originally went in for a natural yet bright balayage and left completely unhappy with the results. However, I went in the next day and my hair was completely fixed by another stylist so I don't want to name names. I will say that the stylist who fixed my hair, Thao, is amazing, knowledgeable, kind and really knows what she's doing and wants to make sure she's doing exactly what you are looking for. Recently moved to Tally from Chi. A couple of folks recommended this salon to me. I used to go to a high-end boutique salon in Chi. I take excellent care of my hair, rarely heat style it, and use salon grade product. My normal cadence is 4-5 week root touch up, with a trim every 3 months. I requested a root touch up and knew my color ahead of time since my former stylist told me what to request. My stylist was good, somewhat junior, but the color turned out fine. I didn't have a haircut ( not needed) or blow dry ( I try not to heat style my hair). When I booked the appointment I explained all of this. My issue is price here- in Chi, for the same service (root touch up only), I was charged $95. My quarterly cut brought it up to $130. I was charged $155 at this salon for a single process root touch up, no cut (which I didn't want) or styling (again I didn't want this either). When I inquired about this at check out, she said 'that's the fee.' Mind you, I'm not cheap and had been with my previous salon for over a decade. I pre-booked my hair appointments every calendar year and also bought my product there. As I said, the color was fine but it's not worth $180 (that's including tip) for a basic touch up. The stylist was patient and listened to my questions about highlights and balayage. However, I left feeling disappointed with the overall service. Despite discussing layers, they weren't done as requested, and the greys at the crown are still showing after coloring. I also asked for face-framing bangs, but the stylist seemed unsure how to achieve this effectively. I got layers done at different place with much shorter hair than my current shoulder length hair. While the atmosphere was welcoming and the stylist was polite and patient, the execution of the requested styles fell short of my expectations. Overall, while the stylist was accommodating and listened well, the lack of expertise in executing the styles I asked for left me feeling unsatisfied. Bought a oribe touch up spray as recommended but it's not spraying or very hard to get it to spray. After the billing is done, I was talking to the receptionist saying I want to click after pictures near the sign Hello gorgeous as I clicked before pictures there, she still went ahead and switched off the lights. First time here. I was struck by the gorgeous decor. I brought my daughter here for just a trim of her bangs. The adorable young blonde (I didn't get her name) did a great job talking to my daughter about what exactly she wanted her bangs to look like and gave her styling tips as well. All of the ladies there were professional yet friendly and fun. Got ear infection at salon. Savannah double booked my appointment time slot. She was rushing between the other client and I. She aggressively washed my hair, getting shampoo in my ear. While she was bleaching my hair, she pressed foil against my face from my forehead to my nose. I'd give zero stars if that was an option. read more

I get there two minutes late cuz it's my first time and the gps takes you to the wrong side of the shopping plaza, but it didn't matter because when I walked in I was told the stylist already left early close to 7 because they didn't know my time had been pushed or forgot or something. Okay first off, the Haute Headz on Gaines canceled my appointment at the last second and sent me over here. I was originally supposed to be with a less experienced stylist, but they put me with a more experienced stylist (which costs more) when they switched me to this location. Next, I showed her a picture of bardot bangs from Pinterest. Being an advanced stylist, you would think she would tell me my hair was too thin and then recommend a different style. Instead, she chopped my bangs and then when they didn't look that good, she was like "well...that's the best I can do unless you want me to use all your hair in your bangs." Christine is an absolute angel. She is so welcoming and does a phenomenal job with my hair. I walk out looking a feeling a million times better. I don't live in Tallahassee anymore, but I make a point of seeing her when I'm in town. The entire staff is pretty friendly but Christine is really spectacular. I think this salon is really quite amazing inside. The interior is so beautiful and open and it's just decorated really well. Overall, I had a really good experience but with some setbacks. I scheduled an appointment to come into the Betton Hills location. It was pretty easy to get an appointment which was good because I really needed a haircut, bad. So I came into the salon and let them know that I was there for my appointment, which was scheduled at 3 p.m. This is where the appointment went awry. I waited for half an hour while countless other people who arrived after me were seen before I was. I had to actually go to the counter at 3:30 and tell them I had been waiting to which they told me my stylist had lost track of time helping someone else at the salon. I was pretty irritated at this point for my stylist's inconsiderate demeanor and for basically wasting half an hour of my life because she "lost track of time." The girl at the counter offered $10 off my service which was basically the most they could do for me, so at least they gave me that, but still. My stylist was pretty quiet. No friendly conversation like I saw happening around me, very straight to business, which is fine but sometimes it's nice to have conversation every now and then. My hair ended up looking fabulous, which was really great, but I went in feeling kind of negative about the experience initially because of the wait. If I were to go again, I would see another stylist. read more

I had my free consult where we talked about making my hair purple and made a plan for the cut and color. Finally I wussed out and went with a bright red because I'm starting my next contract soon and didn't want to startle them too much :) Not only was Gabby so patient with me but she really took the time to get my hair just right. *Beware* Haute Headz doesn't take measures to protect its clients from Covid19; no vaccination requirements, no mask requirements, no social distancing. Haute Headz has almost assuredly helped transmit the virus(willingly, or not). When I went in for my first ever appointment with them, I was shocked that only about 5 people, of a crowded room of about 50, were wearing masks(3 were clients). If I wasn't desperate for a haircut, I would have left. As far as my review of the haircut, the technician didn't concentrate on how I wanted my hair cut. I had to explain it several times. When I got a friend to look at it after I left, it was crooked and they found hairs around my ears that she missed. I wouldn't have tipped if I would have known. I shouldn't have paid for it, but I just wanted to get out. I wouldn't suggest them to anyone. read more

I just used Haute Headz for my daughter's wedding. We had 8 girls getting hair done and a bunch that got make up too. They were very professional and easy to work with. When we arrived we had bagels and mimosas waiting for us :) All the girls were very pleased with what they had done, and they had us out in 2 hours (exactly the time we asked). I went to Haute Headz for a haircut and balayage. The haircut turned out well, but the balayage was horrible. She ended up using foils all over my head and I left the salon with thick, very unnatural looking highlights that were also toned poorly. I went home embarrassed about my hair and spent the next day trying to darken the highlights so they didn't look so bad. Yes, I should have told the stylist that I didn't like my hair, but no one wants to do that and have the person continue messing with their hair after such a disappointment. read more

Not impressed- maybe I haven't found the right stylist? They did a good job with color (one base color, no highlights), but I haven't had luck with the blowouts. I called to see if someone could color my hair. The receptionist informed me that they couldn't do it without a consultation. That was fine with me. I asked when was good for them and she said 2:30 pm it was 950 am so I said sure. Upon arrival approximately 5 minutes early. I checked in. When I entered it was really nice on the inside. A bit noisier than I prefer but that was fine with me. The front desk staff wasn't too friendly but understandably because the mass amount of customers walking in & the ones that had their appointments pre booked. At 2:45 pm I asked if the stylist was notified. She said she was finishing up. Around 3:15 is when I actually got seen. It took an about 5-10 minutes and she was more aloof about what I wanted. I go to school in Tallahassee and have been wanting to find a new salon to be my go-to. This was DEFINITELY not it!! I went and asked for all over highlights, and for the highlights to be a cool toned ashy blonde. Spent 3 hours there, my stylist was very rude and talked openly about how she just wanted to finish my hair. I got left with SUPER uneven, yellow and orange hair with a super unblended root that looks like i did it myself. NOT what I was expecting for $200! Now I have to find another salon here to fix what they did! Will never return here again. ALSO my hair is absolutely fried from the experience. Bleach has never affected my hair like this before and now I'm going to have to do more damage to it in order to make it look decent. read more

I am very easygoing about my hair, and it takes quite a bit for me to get upset about it, but today took the cake. I came here after reading the good reviews to get my hair cut before graduation. I made my appointment over the phone and was told I was getting a specific person, whom I read great reviews on. When I got there they changed my hair stylist. This girl totally botched my hair. I showed her several pictures of what I wanted (maybe an obsessive amount, better safe than sorry). She asked what side I parted my hair on, and when I told her she seemed a bit confused and asked if I could do it. So I did. She then parted my hair in the middle and said it was to make everything centered. She then started reading the backs of her products because she wasn't sure which one did what, and that's when I officially knew that I was in for a bad hair cut. The brushes she used she was pulling out of her bag and had hair on them, which seems very unsanitary to me. When she finished cutting my hair, she told me she cut it shorter in the back than in the front because she liked the way it looked. That is not at all what I wanted but at that point I didn't want to tell her to fix anything because I didn't want her to make it worse. She had on super long fake nails where she accidentally poked me in the eye, I don't think she noticed because she didn't say sorry. When she blow dried my hair she burned my scalp. When she brushed it she pulled it so hard that it hurt. And mind you, I'm pretty hard headed so it takes a lot for it to hurt, she was literally just pulling my ha. The products she used in my hair made my hair so stiff and crunchy. When we left I immediately made a phone call to my hair stylist back home to fix and will be making the 3 hour drive next week. My hair is literally two different lengths on each side. One above my shoulder, the other below. I will be wearing my hair in a pony tail this entire week until I can get it fixed. DONT GO HERE, unless, of course, you hate yourself. Update: they did give me a refund which was very nice. Still a bad experience. read more

I tried a couple of other places in Tally including the much-acclaimed Hair on Earth (meh...), and settled on Haute Headz, which I have been going to for over a year now. I absolutely LOVE my girl (Sarah Michelle). She is great about knowing her clients, and, importantly, their hair. She does a great job with color especially. At first I would give her very detailed instructions about what I wanted it to look like, and she always did exactly what I wanted, which I think is really important. After awhile, I learned to trust her judgment and now I just sort of describe what I am going for in general terms and she executes it better than I could have pictured it. I'm a natural blonde, and she is great with highlights and lowlights, but she really won me over when I decided to go red. She picked the exact right shade for my skintone, and did a great job with it. The one time she put in too many lowlights (when I was blonde), I called her the next week to say I wasn't a fan, and she got me in right away, fixed it, and didn't charge me a dime. They use great products so the color last a long time, and my hair is always healthy and shiny. Overall, the staff is great about accommodating you and squeezing you in if you need an appointment fast or have a tricky schedule. They sell the full range of bumble and bumble products, as well as unique vintagey jewelry. They also have a manicurist there if you want to get all of your pampering done at once. read more

While I have been pretty happy with my haircuts here, I will likely not be returning. The last 5 or so appointments I've made have had something go wrong. I've been called at least 3 appointments in a row to reschedule. What's the point in making appointments if you can't commit to them? At least twice, they've had me wait in their lobby more than 30 minutes because they were running late. This is no way to treat your loyal customers, and frankly, it's beyond rude. I've been really nice about it when they had to reschedule and could understand if this were to happen once or twice, but it's not respectful to customers when it happens every single time. Update: Changing this from 2 stars to 1 star. Others tried making an appointment days in advance and also got their appointments cancelled. This is ridiculous. read more

I was underwhelmed, for that cost I should have left with something better than you would expect from a Great Cuts. The stylist was nice but was in a hurry and didn't really listen to me. I left with flat hair, my roots feeling sticky and knotting from the product that was put in it. The cut gave my hair no movement and it was dead straight across at the bottom and uneven, not the layers and v cut I asked for; now I'm looking for someone to fix it. I was so disappointed when I saw it but knew she was rushed and didn't want to risk it looking worse so I politely smiled and nodded and paid $50 for a rushed chop. read more

The experience was very pleasant my color came out great the only downside was while me hair was getting cooked under the dryer, the color started to melt off my head and got all over my blouse and bra. The stylist was very apologetic of course and she didn't charge me for it.
