I never even walked through the door before I was 100% turned off by this business. I called to make an appt as a new client and once a date and time had been set I was then asked for a credit card number. I said no, but I will be paying with a debit/cc when I arrive. I was then told it was "policy" to hold a cc on file in order to hold the appt. You're not a 5 star hotel - I asked for a wash and style and if you feel you need that kind of info before you ever see a new client you probably shouldn't be in business. read more

To put it simply, the two stars I'm giving are for the gracious customer service shown to me by Priscilla and the owners. Their kindness was truly the highlight of my experience. On June 12, I went to visit Natasha armed with a folder of ~hairspo~ pictures because I have long & thick dark brown hair and I wanted a balayage. I was very clear in saying that I didn't mind lowering levels little by little as long as I maintained the integery of my hair, as I did not want to cut it. The disconnect between what we agreed upon and what happened afterwards is astounding. I left the salon with uneven, brassy hair and an extremely harsh line that looked like a DIY dye job as opposed to what I expected. My hair felt like straw and as I touched it, it was coming off in pieces into my hands. I looked in the mirror and I didn't see anything close to what I asked for. I went home and upon further inspection, there were entire chunks that were either not dyed or straight-up orange, some were even yellow. I called back and got a consultation with Priscilla and she was SUPER kind, but I genuinely didn't feel comfortable pursuing the dye job any further, and the owners were kind enough to refund my money. I recently dyed my hair back and cut off a portion of the dead hair (which I was trying to avoid in the first place) and my new hairstylist discovered that my hair wasn't even cut evenly, there were holes and chops where it should've been straight across, and I ended up losing even more length as a result of a shoddy dye job and a shoddy cut job. The customer service and handling of my issue were fantastic, but I would advise any reader to save their time and money and go elsewhere, with a hairstylist who's able to leave your hair looking beautiful. read more

I want to preface this by saying I usually go to Chelsea and have a very good experience, however she was not going to be in for a month so I went to a different hairdresser (whose name I don't recall) yesterday afternoon and figured it'd be okay. Needless to say I legitimately hate my hair now. I didn't say anything about it while I was there because I was hoping I'd be able to style it differently and it would be okay, but it's probably the worst I've ever gotten. It literally looks like a typical Karen cut, which is not what I asked for. My stylist also never really checked in with me or asked more questions to ensure what I wanted during the cut which is insane to me. I also had reference pics I could have given if she just asked. Yes, it's partially my fault for not speaking up during the cut, but I wanted to trust the process (and I also have pretty bad anxiety so I didn't want to start a conflict). Also I will say I still tipped despite not being confident in the cut. Also I appreciate the kind receptionist, she was very sweet. TL;DR I'll probably only ever come back if Chelsea is in. This is the second time in my life someone's ever given me a Karen cut and I hate it. read more

I had heard great things about Hair On Earth and needed to cut my hair before my graduation, so I decided to make an appointment for my first time. I wanted bangs (which I have had for quite some time) and some light layering. The front desk let me know that the stylist, Lestat, was running a little bit behind and asked me to come 15 minutes after my set appointment, which was completely fine. I arrived and I had no issues. Lestat was very kind and talked to me about what I wanted done, I showed him three different pictures, and let him know what length I wanted for my hair and bangs. He began by dry-cutting my bangs, and that's where it went wrong. He was dry-cutting my bangs very quickly and confidently, and didn't ask if the length he cut at was okay. When he revealed what it looked like, I was shocked. One side looked completely fine, it was right at my eyebrow like I wanted, and the other side was an inch above my eyebrow and very choppy. It looked like a child had gotten ahold of scissors. It seemed he was trying to cover it up when he finished cutting it by playing around with it. I'm usually not one to complain or speak up, but I really had to in this case. My graduation and graduation pictures are next week, and my bangs are now botched and shorter than comfortable. I had initially paid and left because I was very upset and just wanted to go home, but I was advised to go back and ask for a refund. I spoke to the owner about it, he was kind and understanding, fixed it a little bit, but it still looked botched at the end of the day. Options were given such as refunds, gift cards, and making the other side shorter to even it out, but I was still not happy. I did not ask for short bangs. I ended up being given a partial refund. I'm still upset since this happened before my graduation, and will now have to wait for my hair to grow out to get it fixed. Lestat was kind and apologetic, but I am questioning his skills as a professional hair stylist, and would not recommend him for bangs at least. I am super unhappy with how my bangs were cut. I will not be coming here again since I do not trust the stylists to appropriately cut my bangs. read more

I'm naturally a brunette and wanted to go blonde, before coming to hair on earth I previously went somewhere else for 3 sessions with zero progress. All I had was a bunch of bronze highlights all throughout my hair. Ready to give up I decided I'd give it one more shot. I researched where to go and found hair on earth. I read about a particularly stylist named "Jordan" and saw many success photos of brunette to blonde, I immediately made an appointment with her online, and I'm very happy I did! She managed to get me almost completely to the blonde I wanted to be (an ashy white) within our first session! I highly recommend Jordan for anyone trying to go lighter. I've been getting my hair colored for the past 8 years, from highlights, full base color changes, & balayage. I have enough knowledge to know when a stylist is coloring my hair incorrectly. This was my 1st time trying hair on earth & I had an appointment with Autumn. I wanted to touch-up my full root balayage, which I had received from a previous salon in ft. lauderdale (currently on the hunt for a good Tallahassee salon). The color that I received was good, my main goal was just not to walk out with orange hair, however the technique used to color my hair was horrible. I left with patches of blonde hair contrasting with my natural root color of ashy brown. my highlights were also very stringy instead of looking natural & blending in with my hair (she didn't weave them in). I had addressed my concern while my hair was still wet with dye & she said it would turn out fine; shocker, it didn't. after my hair was dry I addressed the concern again about the patches of different colored hair & she agreed to fix them 2 days laters, understandable because she had other clients. she was nice about the process & offered to fix it instead of like other stylists that want to insist their work is fine; I appreciated her doing that. came back and told her exactly where I wanted the new strands because I guess she couldn't fully grasp the problem. end result: I was satisfied. however, this hair appointment cost me $187 ($160 for balayage with a "2nd tier" stylist and I still gave her a 17% tip). this was the most I've ever spend on my hair, normally I spend around $140. I won't be returning because the quality of service does not correlate to the price point. read more

I will never want to go to another salon ever again for the rest of my life. The staff is adorable and accommodating. My stylist was like a mind reader, I went in there with a vague idea of what I wanted and couldn't have been happier when I left! The selection of products were great too! I just started using bumble & bumble products and they're amazing! The straight shampoo has tamed my summer frizz completely. I can't wait to try the surf spray! Short version: no stars for the rude manager and bad experience; 2 courtesy stars for Lestat, a nice stylist who got caught in the crossfire. Details: A few weeks ago, I booked an appt with a particular stylist. At the time I booked, I was offered times to come in for color and cut - but at the advice of the person scheduling my appt, I scheduled just a haircut and a color consult. I confirmed my appt when prompted a few days ago. Today, while on my way to the salon, I got a call from the front desk that the stylist was running late and could not see me today. I was unapologetically offered another stylist which I accepted, and I was promised that the stylist I wanted would at least come say hello and do the color consult for me. I was a little put off by the person on the phone being kind of unpleasant, and that I was given such late notice. Not ideal, but it happens. I went with the flow. When I arrived, the new stylist, Lestat took the time to talk to me and discuss what I was hoping to achieve. He was very nice and seemed genuinely interested in helping me - however it seems no one told him that I was last minute rescheduled into his chair. After talking for a few minutes, he kindly advised me that perhaps it would be better to just reschedule with the stylist I had asked for (trying not to poach from another stylist; I respect that). We walked to the front again and Lestat tells me he is letting the manager know we were just going to reschedule. At this point, I am a little disappointed, but willing to just pick another day. The front desk person (who is apparently the manager and who is **visibly irritated**) asked when I was available. I offered 2 weekdays in the afternoon or any evening after 5. "She doesn't have anything." I said, okay, what about a weekend? "She doesn't work weekends." I was surprised to hear that she doesn't do nights or weekends or Wednesday or Friday afternoons - especially since those times had been offered to me weeks ago when I first scheduled. We went back and forth a few times. She offered 9am on a Wednesday in a few weeks - I work office hours and couldn't do it. I felt myself getting frustrated and said so, trying to be reasonable and keep my voice calm, to convey my disappointment politely. I said, I'm starting to get a little upset - "Why?" she asked me. I told her I felt a little like I was being blown off - they were rescheduling me at the last minute and somehow couldn't accommodate the reschedule - I was abruptly cut off and told, "No, the STYLIST rescheduled you." (Hear that? That's the sound of a hair stylist being thrown under a bus!) I had driven all the way over here for my confirmed appointment and was leaving without what I came in for. I was trying to reschedule around work and life obligations like everyone has to. The manager continued talking defensively, telling me she can't schedule for times that aren't available - I said I totally understood! And attempted again to be reasonable. Manager kept talking. There are no appts for me. At this point Lestat was cutting in, trying to offer something else; trying to de-escalate while the manager continued talking over him. I asked for his card and said I'd have to call back; I began to try to leave - the manager continued talking - poor Lestat was making a visibly stressed attempt to help. I took his card and left. A lot of times, you read a bad review and can imagine the person screaming at staff, or being ridiculously demanding, slamming doors...this was not that. This place, like most, has a cancelation policy to protect the stylist's time. If you last minute cancel, you are charged. They last minute canceled on me. I am pretty dang frustrated that this wasn't even my biggest complaint. The whole experience was awful. The manager was blunt and rude, and disrespectful of my time. She escalated a simple frustration into an embarrassing confrontation, and never once did she say, "let me check with the stylist and call you to schedule" or "sorry about the last minute change" or even attempt to offer any real solution. It felt really bad. You never know what someone's life is like, or if they're struggling. I tried to give this lady the benefit of a doubt and she just did not care. Nor did she extend the same courtesy to me. I sincerely want to thank Lestat who really attempted to treat me with kindness and respect. read more

So for just a haircut, with hardly any cutting it cost me a total of $84. I've never paid over $50 for a haircut this place it way over priced!!! read more

I have gotten my hair cut four separate times here and each has been a disappointment. It is partially my fault for returning, but this time I am so incredibly disappointed with my haircut that the coffin is sealed. I went in with pictures of my previous haircut, an asymmetrical pixie cut with one side shaved. I called in and was assigned a junior stylist. The cut took forever and when I clearly stated several times how i would like it to go (she was unsure how to cut, with scissors, a graduated shave on the side i wanted short and ignored my several suggestions to, you know, shave it), I was ignored. She even had to ask help from another stylist and was clearly uncomfortable with the cut, which i preferred she would have just owned up to so I could leave and get it styled some where else. Ultimately, I left unhappy because it was clearly not going to get any better and will have to spend additional money some where else to get my hair corrected. worst haircut i've ever received and i used to get my hair done by my grandfather who only works on customers 60+. Upon my arrival for my 4:15 appt, i was greeted and told to wait while the finish up with another client. I sat on their leather couch that is angled directly in the sun for 20 mins before they actually called me back for my appt. the "hairstylist" suggested layers and it turned out to look like fucking tetris on the ends of my hair. She also had major RBF the entire cut and didn't speak a word to me. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. I did indeed have an appointment at Hair on Earth and i'm sure all the other people that gave bad reviews on yelp did as well. It appears that the owner is claiming to not see us in the system. Business owners should be willing to hear and accept criticism in order to improve their business, but this guy would rather make false claims and lie about their clients. Stay away!! read more

I love this place. When I moved here 6 years ago, I made it my mission to find a good salon that can handle my curly hair. Vanessa is my go-to hair stylist! I am so happy I found her and have never been disappointed! She's great with my hair, awesome to talk to, and makes sure to really listen to what you want. I had dry damaged hair from a previous balayage and Vanessa suggested cutting it short since I wanted to revive my curls. My hair is probably at its healthiest in the past 10 years. WARNING: Do not go here!! I went in with dirty blonde hair. I showed them a picture of Gigi Hadid at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. I asked for highlights the way she had them in her hair, which was essentially Balayage. I then asked them to make them have a cool tone because I am paler than Gigi. I had the OWNER. I thought I would be okay. I paid around $200 and hours of my life and my hair looked exactly the same. I asked friends and they all thought it looked "washed" but nothing more. So I went back. I was pretty upset. This was before a break in school (I go to FSU) and I needed it done. They were unwilling to give me an appointment before school closed, causing me to stay on a friend's couch for a couple of days to wait for an available appointment since my housing was closed. This time, I had the MANAGER. I told him my hair did not look different enough for the amount I spent I spent another couple hours in there. When I left, my hair was YELLOW. It looked absolutely awful. I ended up having to get my hair fixed at AVEDA salon in Orlando who had to put tons of highlights over whatever Hair on Earth had done. do not go here!!!! RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!! my friend and i planned balayage appointments together & were very excited! upon arrival we saw the sign on the outside pointing to the parking around the back. we should have turned around then and there considering the sign looked straight out of the last exorcism. when we arrived we were barely greeted by stylists. we expected that they were capable of doing what we asked. we gave detailed explanations and even brought in photos for them to reference. instead we were their lab rats for the day. our appointment was scheduled at 10am and lasted until 5pm - casual. while my stylist chose random strands and chunks of hair to put in foil, my friends entire head was covered in bleach for 5 hours. when they finally rinsed the bleach and added toners to our hair we were in for a sweet surprise!! my hair: $170 worth of dark red with patches of bleached sections that started halfway down my hair. i looked like a malnourished cow. my friends hair: $250 worth of bleached to the ROOT! not blonde but citrus ORANGE! my poor baby looked she let a coked out chimpanzee take a tub of acid to her scalp my lord.. when we kindly expressed our honest feelings were given no break. instead we walked out with empty wallets, empty stomachs, low self esteem, and an urge to drive our sorry ass cars into the salon itself. all and all the experience was "hell on earth". if you want to scare your boyfriend away or lower your confidence in the longest most irritating way possible this place is for you. if you go, bring a razor to shave your joke of a hairstyle off in the car. christ have mercy! read more

I have been getting my hair done at Hair on Earth since I first moved to Tallahassee 5 years ago. When I first began coming here I went to Riley, but she has since moved so I now go to Kacie. The products that they use at Hair on Earth are high quality and keep my hair feeling healthy and soft. The stylists really know what they are doing and are always happy to give you advice or follow exactly what you would like done. I have always been extremely happy with my color and cut. Kacie does a great job with my hair, and I am scared to ever have to find a new salon! The price can be high, but is good compared to many of the competing salons in town. Now that I've found Hair on Earth, I won't go anywhere else in town. The first time I went to Angela and got all my hair chopped off. Probably about 15 inches or more. When I told her what I wanted, she was more excited than I was. Her enthusiasm helped ease me of my decision for a drastic change. She was easy to talk to and did a fantastic job on my hair. Meh, describes this place perfectly. For girl cuts: I've gone various times, it can be very hit or miss even with the same stylist. Unfortunately, the stylists seem to not have much experience with coloring brunette hair and act generally apprehensive about it and don't really explain why. This place is not really as "edgy"with haircuts/color as you would think - so if you *don't* have thin, blonde/light hair ...this might not be the place for you. My last haircut was very rushed, and the stylist just randomly grabbed pieces and chopped...resulting in very choppy and uneven layers that I just had to let grow out. UGH. For guy cuts: I've gone with other people for guy cuts, it is a hit or miss as well. My boyfriend went for a haircut and they combed his hair one way, cut it according to that...then at the end styled another way making it look very uneven since it wan't cut to fit that style. I'm not sure what is the head massage people keep mentioning because I have not received it. There are other salons in town, I would suggest asking around for recommended stylists. read more

I had such a wonderful experience here! I came here from all the high reviews and had Keith as my hair stylist. He was very professional, knowledgeable, helpful and asked a lot of consultation questions in order to get the hair I wanted. I got a double process done to my hair and had it dyed a light purple. He removed all of the strawberry blonde that was left in my hair from a previous hair stylist. It looks so good with my skintone! I highly recommend this place and Keith if you're looking to get your hair cut, colored, or styled. They will take good care of you. I have bad my hair cut by three different stylists and they have all been able to understand not only what I was hoping to achieve from my hair cut, but also give me good tips for hair care and work with my schedule. I love the music that's played there and how clean everything is. I have even gotten multiple tips on places to go to around town from the stylists that have been as cool and fun to go to as they all are when I go to have my hair cut. I recommend her for anyone but especially asian male hair. She has taken care of my hubby hair from his younger days with a fohawk to now, a stylish combover. The price is more expensive than a typical asian hair salon but average for a american hair salon. Considering its Tally, its reasonable price. Parking is free and easy (park in the back). This salon is now the only place I'll go to to have my hair cut. The staff is super nice, sweet and will help you figure out what you want to do with your hair without making you feel rushed or uncomfortable.
