It could be interpreted as romantic, but my elderly self (36) focused on my inability to see anything . Dark enough to be a little disorienting at first, but the seating is comfy and spaced nicely for small groups and dates (as long as you don't need to see each other that well.) I have been to Ocho and this hotel, but the Havana was never opened when we visited. So, I was excited when they announced #HavanaHiFi was back. Especially with Adrian Quesada from Black Pumas spinning some tunes. Place is small, but a perfect setting to the evening as we sipped on some drinks. This is one of my favorite downtown bars because the atmosphere is relaxing, and the specialty cocktails are really excellent. All of the furniture is mid-century and has a sort of upscale living room feel. I especially love the antique light fixtures above the bar. It's in a hotel basement, which is already pretty dark, but whoever decorated this space just leaned into the darkness. Earlier in the evening, they keep some of the lamps very dimly lit, but late at night, they leave all of the lights out and just use copious tall red glass pillar candles all along the floor and tables. It may be a fire hazard, but it looks amazing! Also, it is right on the Riverwalk for easy access. The Cuban focus of their drink menu makes this place unique. If you're ordering a cocktail, I'd recommend sticking with their menu because they do everything well. Everything is reasonably priced in the $8-12 range. Trace of Cin is my favorite because it combines an unexpected dash of fruity flavors with bourbon and cinnamon. The Havana Mule is my second favorite--like a Moscow Mule, but with rum and pineapple instead of vodka. Refreshing! The Monserrat is very smokey--a lot like a Manhattan but extra savory. You can order off the menu, to be sure, and there will be a Caribbean twist on what you get. My big tip is to get there early if you'd prefer a quieter, less busy bar. It tends to fill up late into the evening (especially on weekends.) They don't usually play music, so you can actually have a conversation there when it's not too busy. After dinner at Ocho on Saturday night, 4 of us decided to give this bar a try. The ambiance in Havana Bar is nice, but the service was some of the worst I've experienced. The bartender noted on our check, Adrian (dark long hair and a beard) was disrespectful, rude and in a sour mood for no apparent reason. Every simple, respectful, request was met by a snide, mean-spirited, negative response. We patiently waited a while after the group in front of us left the bar area, and eventually, with his back turned to us, he said something along the lines of "If you want something, just order." He didn't know anything about the wines he was serving or wouldn't tell us. I left it up to him to make a non-alcoholic mocktail of his choosing, and when asked what was in it, he wouldn't tell me. (It just tasted like ginger ale). I've been a server and bartender before, and the behavior was just inexcusable. He threw down a $43 bill for two wines, a beer, and a non-alcoholic drink with no itemized receipt or menu to verify the drink prices. The way he glared at our group, I wondered if we were being overcharged. The tables were covered in dirty glassware when we went to sit down. It wasn't busy, there were maybe 8 other people in the whole place. There's no reason, in a corporate owned hotel bar, to be met with a bartender who has such a deliberate, sour attitude who makes guests feel uncomfortable. Skip this place. read more

Awesome bar below Hotel Havana, after I checked into my room I asked where it was and she said enter the elevator and hit B. I hit b and the door closes, it moves, opens up to a super dark candle lit interior with light ambient music playing, my mind was blown. What an awesome bar, what an awesome surprise right below my room was a speak easy style bar. I was super stoked to try some authentic Cuban cocktails. Hence the 3 stars, the bartender was fast, almost two fast for his own good. I tried 3 different cocktails, all were garbage. I think he put 4-5 ingredients into a daiquiri which scared me. The first one I had the "punch" was over sweet and sour bearing and had little to no flavor of punch, tasted like #$#$. He promised he can make me anything awesome and with class. The daiquiri I received tasted like sour and lime garbage again. Not sure where he got his bartender training, but for $10-14 cocktail you need to retrain him. The bar is in the basement of the hotel. It's dark with red lighting and your eyes have to adjust but once it does everything is crystal clear. The bar tenders are amazing and very talented giving us suggestions for what our tastebuds are craving for. I had a mojito and my husband had a right hand. Both were perfect and my husband said it was the best one he has had. This is a great bar but do come in expecting to enjoy the drinks and not worry to much about the bill. I'm Havana good time! Har! This is a cool underground bar located right along a seldom-explored part of the Riverwalk in downtown. It's directly under the Havana Hotel, and kind of gives a speak-easy vibe to it. From the street, you'd never know that this place existed, unless you go wandering through the alleyways that lead you to the Riverwalk. It's a dark, quiet bar. It's mainly lit with candles, and it usually takes your eyes a few minutes to adjust to the darkness. The bar is always air conditioned and cool, and a nice spot to chill out in the San Antonio afternoons. It's the closest bar to the Tobin Center, so it's a good place to get some pre-concert cocktails. They cost about the same as what you'd get in the concert hall, but they're hand crafted, strong, and delicious- top shelf liquors and expert pours. It's an intimate bar, quiet- relaxed. The seating is comfortable, and classy. They sell cigars, of course- it's the Havana Bar. You can smoke 'em on their patio, next to Ocho. My only drawback about this place is that it takes a few minutes for my eyes to adjust to the darkness after being in the sun all day, and I always end up running into someone or something when I come in here because it's so dark! D'oh! Parking is usually tight, but surprisingly usually available for a downtown place in a private lot! read more

The cocktails are expensive but will worth it cause the bartender really takes his time to make one for you, you can't rush a good thing so just lean back,lean back then you be like Wow! If I was a Vampire this is the place I would take the lovely ladies too. I like the dim lights and all the candle lights and all the sofas and cool chairs this place has to offer. You can take a tour of the hotel by taking the elevator in the bar to the lobby or all the way to the 3rd floor and chill out at the balcony under the moon light with a cool breeze. I saw people come and go... some stayed and some said damm it's dark in here they don't know how to embrace the dark side of Havana oh well. My boyfriend and I stumbled into this hidden gem trying to get to the Ocho restaurant upstairs. It was so cold we decided to take the elevator down to the bar instead of walking around to the restaurant. We were immediately drawn to the ambience of the bar lounge area, which was covered in welcoming vintage furniture and flickering with Crimson red candles. The bartender was friendly and helpful and the food was the icing on the cake. Not to mention our tasty side dish of French fries, that had a reputation of being "on point" as described by our bartender. I'm between rating this place a 3 or 4. My boyfriend and I had our first date here and needless to say I was immediately obsessed. This was pre Covid when they had a lowkey music and full menu. However post Covid the menu has been visibly cut down. I got a Bellini last time and it sadly was no longer on the menu this time around. The drinks I did try were not as good as to make me decide to have a mimosa which could've been better. Additionally the staff was kinda rude when we asked about items not on the menu or even waiting for our drinks. Now let's end on a high note. The great things about this place are the decor, the lighting, accessibility and the vibe. The decor is vintage and beautiful. The lounge area in the back always takes my breathe away and is my favorite place to sit. The lighting is completely done by candles. Was at the Tobin center 8/7/22 on a Sunday around 6pm , a very short walk there ; I was "unescorted ". I had wanted to check it out for a long time & was not crowded being on Sunday The best part was its "uniqueness": Plus the hotel exterior / interior. Went through the lobby, found my way to the bar via down elevator . There was an outside entrance off the small free parking lot. Indeed it did remind you of an old speakeasy: very dark ( my eyes had to adjust) and intimate & cool on hot day . Mixologist Adrian was friendly and made me a delicious mojito . ($11) I felt the need to ask if he'd see any ghosts; it just seems that kind of a place he said no there is a small patio with a large fan & slight view of the Riverwalk Overall the neatest thing was the unique surroundings & atmosphere : you feel like you're in "another time" In my opinion, best for small groups or dates I.e. I felt like speaking in hushed tones. The drinks taste pretty good but the service is questionable. We went downstairs first for the ambiance but the bartender ignored us as he helped one other person. It seemed like the customer was making things a little complicated but we weren't even offered a drink menu to gaze at while waiting. My boyfriend went to the bathroom and came back and i was still standing there like an doofus waiting. So we went upstairs where the bar was empty and the bartender was more attentive. A true hidden gem in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Tucked beneath Cuban-inspired restaurant Ocho (review to come on that as well), this little speak-easy is anything but ordinary. Once you walk down the staircase to the underground bar, you will truly feel like you are in a sanctuary of some sort. The candles, antique furniture, and seductive atmosphere is the perfect place to meet for a first date, or even just to escape for a quiet spot to enjoy a cocktail. Very cool, trendy lounge (I feel it has more of a loungey feel rather than a bar feel). Highly recommend asking for a "key lime pie" shot. It was so good!! Very cool, very dark (literally) bar located under the hotel Havana. We came here after dining at Ocho, and it was a nice experience. It should be restated that this bar is indeed very dimly lit. When you walk in from outside (especially if it's a sunny San Antonio afternoon) you're going to be blind, because the only lights are little and red. Just take your time and keep moving forward to the bar and adjust your eyes, it's worth it. I can't tell you how many people I saw come in, exclaim at how dark the place was and turn right around. They missed out. The drink menu is exactly the same as upstairs at Ocho, which is a little bit of a bummer since i would have enjoyed something distinguishing the spaces from one another. That being said, Ocho's drink menu covers all the bases, so you'll be well served down here, too. The vibe is distinctly chill, with low-key music on in the background.
