Anyhow, we had a large group of friends during Halloween weekend and after our dinner on the River, a friend said, "Hey, lets all go to Be Kind & Rewind!" We said, "Um, okay!" We were already in costume so that was great. The place is pretty big and you pretty much dance everywhere. There are several bars. It's easy to get overlooked by the bartendar so you have to be prepared to stand your ground and not get bumped to the side (with the customers and not the staff). This is a novel place with loads of fun throw backs to meander about and look at! I loved the 80s, 90s, and 00s music videos playing and the free arcade games. So fun and nostalgic! We went during a very slow time. We're in our late 30s and late 40s so we don't start our nights at 10. We usually end them then. Haha! So the bartender was quick, neither super friendly or rude. We didn't eat so I can't say anything about that (if they even have food, which I'm doubtful about), but we had two frozen margaritas. They were out of a machine. They were meh. This is definitely more of a club spot so not totally our style, but we really enjoyed checking out the nostalgic decor, playing a few games, and looking at the fun Christmas decor. One of the coolest bars I ever went to! I decided to pull on a weekday during happy hour to avoid the long lines and huge crowds. I was able to fully experience the bar and take my photos in peace. They perfectly encapsulate the 80's , 90's and early 2000's aesthetic giving you nostalgia overload. They had music from various eras playing which takes you down memory lane. I really wanted to have fun here but... This place really tried hard to be a different bar experience. There's pinball machines, retro displays, a ton of places to take some fun photos, and a bunch more. I understand they wanted a retro vibe and fun atmosphere, and I typically LOVE places like that, but this bar really just... missed. Instead of creating the cool aesthetic they were clearly going for, it made the place feel old. To be honest, it was lame. And then there's the alcohol. Never in my life have I had such a watered down drink. It was downright insulting to watch the bartender fill my 'drink' literally 75% of the way with water before adding any form of booze. I paid $15 for a whiskey sour to essentially get a water bottle sour? No thanks. I'd wanted to try some of the fun looking Halloween themed drinks, but after that I stopped at the one. If it wasn't for the group I went with, I wouldn't have stayed the thirty minutes I ended up staying before I bailed. 'Disappointed' doesn't begin to describe my feelings for this place. Biggest waste of my time this year. Unless you are going out of your way to find an 'older' bar with a slower vibe, find a better bar. You deserve better. read more

So here is an update. Its been over a year since we have been to BKR and the place is still badass! Staff is super friendly which is weird in San Antonio. The people watching is on point! So much tacos de ojo here. Jams were great but way too much Beyoncé is played here and she is the DEVIL! I also wish they played the Spanish jams from back in the day but oh well cant have it all! We tried to visit this place for a friends birthday. It was supposed to be the second bar we visited in the night. The staff would not allow us entry claiming a member of our party was intoxicated. At that point, 3 hours into our celebration, we had each only had 3 beverages or less across several hours so there was no way anybody in the group was intoxicated. It was such a ridiculous allocation that came out of left field, and it happened to target the only black individual in the group. I was invited out for a friends birthday party to go dancing here. I haven't been to a club for many years and don't drink alcohol but I was having a good time hanging with my friends and dancing. An elderly man who seemed either really drunk or on something else started moving in on our table, staring me down and standing way too close. Just as I was asking him to back up and give us some space one of the service staff walked by. He noticed the interaction and checked in with me to see if everything was ok. I told him I'd just asked the guy to back off and he let me know if needed we could ask the security guard to intervene. After another half hour or so of the man continuing to hover near us one of the security guards tapped me on the back letting me know they had been watching the guy stare at me and had decided to ask him to leave. I was blown away by this gesture, knowing they were really looking out for my safety that way. I want to say thank you to the staff for paying attention and prioritizing their customers wellbeing like that. Plus, it seemed like good vibes overall, everyone was dancing and having fun together. My friend and I really wanted to play pinball while we were visiting San Antonio, we had our small,very well behaved chihuahua with us in a back pack. We enjoyed the 80's videos, and the pinball games were in decent shape. We played 3 games and decided to step out for a few minutes. Upon our return we were asked to show our ID, (we're both over 55), we're scanned for weapons with a handheld device and told that we would need to show papers for our service animal, which we found out later is illegal in the city of San Antonio. Our bartender was really friendly however, the management staff and security was a little over the top at 4 PM in the afternoon. Would never recommend this place to anyone, especially people who love pinball, and there are a lot of of us.! read more

All the old school jams and decor, makes this place one to remember. For all the young people reading this post, "No cap..it's cool asf!" For the oldies, "It's super rad and far out!". Seriously though, it's a whole vibe. I'm not a huge fan of their drinks, although they aren't bad either. In my opinion, they are a tad bit basic. With that said, the bartending service is on point. We definitely had a good time here. The music was on point and the space was spread out enough to not feel like your on top of one another. The servers were quick with our drinks and we weren't waiting for a long time to get a bartenders attention. Only downside is that it's downtown and we had to park at Rivercenter mall in which we paid 15$ for parking and walked to the bar. Make sure to take an Uber here or plan on paying almost $30 for parking in the parking garage because Be kind and rewind is located in the middle of downtown near the Riverwalk. We arrived around 11:45 on a Saturday night and the lines were outrageous...i think next time we will arrive earlier to avoid the lines and crowds from the other bars nearby. To start of my night I tried the disco punch with the disco ball cup, which is extra, but it's for the aesthetic. The drink was excellent and I was able to reuse my cup for my second drink! & Of course the music was on point but I've always adored 90's music anyways! Sadly because of the crowd, I didn't experience any of the photo opportunities they had nor did I see the game room!! Oh, and to add the floors were gross and super sticky. I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at this establishment. A member of our group, who had admittedly had too much to drink, stumbled, and a bouncer immediately put his hands on her to remove her from the building. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism, he aggressively grabbed her by the face, scratching her eye in the process. I had just arrived and only had one drink myself. After checking on my injured friend outside, I attempted to re-enter to use the restroom and close my tab. When I mentioned what had happened to another bouncer at the door, I was told I could not come back inside because I was "intoxicated," which was completely false. When I asked to pay my bill, two managers came outside. One of them listened and said it "must have been an accident" and that they would speak with the bouncer involved. The other, however, stood silently with a look of disdain while I tried to explain the situation. Neither response reflected genuine concern for the fact that their staff had physically harmed a guest. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic customer respect I witnessed was unacceptable. I will not be returning, and I will be sharing this experience with others. read more

As a child of the 80's what can I say? This place is amazing. Super Retro and soooooooo many memories. This place is decked out in so much 80's memorabilia that it was hard to focus in just one area. Everywhere you looked, you spotted a different 80's gem that triggered another memory. We met some friends on a Sunday night and apparently it was karaoke night. Not just karaoke night but 80s karaoke. Let's just say it was fun watching/hearing 1) Millennials sing some of these classic tunes they were unfamiliar with 2) Tipsy GenXers sing songs from their youth 3) Someone really familiar with their choice of song and having them sing and act it out (dude, singing Like A Virgin, I'm looking at you) Not sure what I'm more impressed with, all the memorabilia they managed to collect, their amazing drink menu or their awesome playlist. While the place is chill and plays good music, the bartenders are completely trash and let me tell you why. Angel Alanis denied me service because the friend i was with didn't tip him the first time. Mind you, i hadn't even ordered anything yet so that already pissed me off. He did it twice to different people and then tries to get security on us after i told him that he's wack as shit for the way he's doing things. If y'all come here don't order from this entitled crybaby and definitely don't give him your hard earned money for his half ass service. So-so. Beyond Instagram photos, this place is a pass for me. Stopped in on 22JAN23 @ 415pm. Place was almost dead. Location is the only thing working for this place. The staff isn't rude, but definitely lack personabilty. Wife and I each ordered a drink and were closed out; weren't asked to open a tab or anything. It seemed like they interact more with customers they know from outside the establishment who stop in for a hook-up. Downstairs was closed which was unfortunate and don't get me started on the bathroom situation. If you've ever been deployed, the "cadillacs" will look very familiar. Then again, this is Military City. Drinks are about $10/ea and the margarita is easily one of the worst downtown; taste like straight mix and extra sugar. This place is dope! I walked by this place & I was intrigued plus my friend told me they were having an ugly sweater contest with holiday themed libations so why not?!?! It's a really cool 80s/90s retro club. The music was great, drinks were great & the inside is aesthetically pleasing and a lot of options for cool photos. The staff was very friendly and they even have old school arcade games. There are two entrances: one on losoya and the other on Alamo plaza. The bathrooms are downstairs.
