    Pistachio ice cream. : @pasthyme

When you LITERALLY go to Dalla Rose every single day and decided that you'll only go in St-Henri around 10:00pm to avoid late night sweets. You know, because I haven't quite given up on the summer bod. Here's a reality check: @havreauxglaces has AMAZING pistachio ice cream that isn't fluorescent green and their ice cream shop closes at 10:00pm as well. I think this one might beat Dalla Rose actually.

This ice cream seems to be waiting for you after a day of outdoor activities by Marche Atwater. There were a variety of flavors to choose from and the staff will provide suggestions and samples. The lait de coco sorbet was wonderful- true coconut flavor and the cranberry raspberry was tart and delightful. It's a cash only establishment, so come prepared. The sorbets are vegan! You can also take gelato and sorbet to go.

Ok, so if I see a line up for food, it is more than likely I will join the line - that is just the curious kid in me (you should have seen me at the lines outside Uncle Tetsu in Toronto when it opened - man, those line were long). But my expectations are equally high. This place had a long line up, and no doubt the service was quick and ice cream was good - but it fell short because of the sky high expectations. Would I go there again? Yes, as long as there isn't a line up. The location though is amazing. On a hot summer weekend, sitting beside the canal and enjoying the ice cream is great.

Stumbled upon this perfectly located ice cream spot by the canal. I never knew it existed in that area. Love their coconut sorbet and pistachio ice cream. SO GOOD! Although I don't know how much of a good it did to my run. I think it kinda compensated for the calories I had burned. Oh well. Definitely worth it! Now it's just gonna be a conscious effort to avoid un-doing my workout efforts. Distractions and temptations I tell you. On a serious note, do try this place.

Ideal spot next to the Atwater market with a few picnic tables to grab an ice cream cone after a day spent shopping or galavanting by the Canal Lachine. There's always a line up here but it moves quickly enough; there's always plenty of nice staff with friendly smiles to serve you. They have an assortment of homemade ice creams and sorbets to try; you can always ask for a tasting if you're not sure which to choose, and trust me, making a decision can be hard! You have the option of sugar cone or a cup, and the number of scoops. Two scoops on a cone will set you back 7$ but it's so worth it! I opted for a scoop of the chocolate and one of the espresso. The chocolate was mind blowing at 72% chocolate, but too sweet and a perfect combo with the rich coffee flavour. Cone was fresh and I thoroughly enjoyed my treat, ass always!

Pistachio pistachio pistachio!!! And, eat it while strolling through Atwater Market? Hellzzz to the yes!! Location gives this outdoor small covered space a for-sure 5th star. Grab a cup or cone of their creamy dreamy ice cream, or there's sorbet for those that want something other to satisfy their sweet tooth, and take a stroll through the flower and produce stalls. My pistachio choice was wonderful - perfect amount of sweet. A slight salty taste from the nuts. It was in the mid 80s (F) when we stopped by, so this afternoon dessert was not shy when it came to the melting process. A classic afternoon treat!

One of the best things about Montreal Summer is revolved around food, and Havre-aux-glaces is no exception to the rule! This location is situated along the Lachine Canal, right across from one of Montreal's best known markets, Marché Atwater! The great thing about being near the canal is that there are many things the area offers aside from the market. You can rent bikes, a canoe or kayak, dragon boat practices, Terrace Ste-Ambroise for a brew, and when the heat is on, a great perfectly located place for Artisanal Sorbet and Gelato/Ice Cream. Not only do they taste awesome, but the flavours are inventive as well as having some classics! My brother and I tried the Cassis and Mango. Mango is one of my favourites and they did not disappoint. Cassis was also quite good, and next time, I would definitely pair it up with lemon sorbet! Traveling around with my brother, a professional photographer, I tend to let his creative eye capture the food. He let me use this photo to capture this sweet treat! So photo is courtesy of Maurice Li.

bissap sorbet with pistachio ice cream - small cup

Located just across the street from Marche Atwater (closer to the side of the canal), Havre-aux-Glaces has an assortment of icecream and sorbet flavours. Their flavours are pretty creative and I definitely appreciate how their icecream has fillings in it (e.g. nuts, crumbs, etc.) I went with a small cup with the bissap sorbet and pistachio ice-cream. For a hot summer day, the portion was just right, and for one serving, I feel like a small is the right amount. The sorbet was very flavourful - both tangy and sweet, definitely not a flavour I've seen elsewhere before. The pistachio was pretty rich too, and had some pieces of pistachio in it, which I definitely appreciated. It was also very creamy and not that sweet as compared to the sorbet, which was a pleasant surprise. Lines do get long on hot, summer days, especially around the afternoon, so plan accordingly!

The chocolate ice cream on the other hand is super saturated (note the Dutch chocolate is the same as the sea salt except the salt). While I loved the ice cream, unless I'm specifically in the mood for something creamy, I actually think I would prefer to get the sorbets next time for the more concentrated gelato-like flavor. The matcha sorbet seemed like a winner, but they also have such a wide range of delicious flavors. They let you try some flavors, which is perfect for an indecisive person like me. And the servers are so sweet!

We first got a double scoop of the Orange and Arctic Fire Sorbets. I'm not usually one to get orange-flavoured desserts/drinks since I can easily get some old-fashioned OJ, but this Orange Sorbet was absolutely divine on the hot day. Sweet and tangy, yet not overpowering. The Arctic Fire was an interestingly sweet with a floral tone - I wish I remembered the main ingredient, but I was too busy indulging in my ice-cream/sorbet addiction. The sorbets were incredibly good. After we devoured them, we went back in immediately to try more flavours. My friend and I ultimately decided on the Mango and Passion Fruit Sorbets, both representing tangy fruits that we enjoy and love. The owner highly recommended the Cantaloupe to help us cool off, and proceeded to give us a free scoop on top of our packed cup! We were so appreciative of the free scoop, and I'm glad we got to try it out! It was my favourite flavour - it genuinely tasted straight like the fruit, just an ice-y form. My friend's favourite was the Orange. If you're in the Mont-Royal area, make sure to give this place a try! I wish we tried some of their ice-cream flavours, but we already did 5 different sorbet flavours that night. Couldn't afford a brain freeze! I think from now on, I'm gonna start trying Orange-flavoured desserts/drinks.

Even though it was cold, we still stopped in for ice cream and the ice cream was terrific. A different take on a sundae with a hard chocolate shell, that shell is nearly impenetrable (even the thin layer) but was so good even by itself. And good ice cream too. Come and stop in! FOOD: The chocolates were good but not the best. See's Candies in California is so much better for flavor and variety. But we did love the look of them and the options they offered. The ice cream though is next level. Never had anything like it with that hardened chocolate shell. And even though it was tough to get through, it was delicious. I couldn't finish even a small one! So don't go too big unless you're sharing. SERVICE: Everyone was super nice and the portions were HUGE. Definitely they do it right here.
