I got my favorite Vanilla and Pistachio ice cream. It was very good. My sister got raspberry sorbet, and I tasted it and it was excellent. I wish I had hers, but mine was good though. Anyway, I need to come back again for the raspberry flavor. Their menu is full amazing fruit sorbets... I guess I will use this summer to try all of them since I am not planning to go far from my place due to the Covid 19. read more

On an extremely hot day like today, Ice cream is a MUST! I stopped by Havre-aux-Glaces for a nice mango sorbet- which was good and refreshing. They offer a variety of sizes & flavours but I went all out and ordered their 500 ml size. They offer an even wider variety of sorbet & ice cream flavours in that size which is nice & calories don't count ;-) There were two things that I wasn't too fond of and that's why I am not giving a 4*. 1- No samples, really? The first time, I go to an ice cream shop and experience this... 2- you can't mix flavours if you order a 500 ml size. The employee was filling up the ice cream right in front of me... Ok, so if I see a line up for food, it is more than likely I will join the line - that is just the curious kid in me (you should have seen me at the lines outside Uncle Tetsu in Toronto when it opened - man, those line were long). But my expectations are equally high. This place had a long line up, and no doubt the service was quick and ice cream was good - but it fell short because of the sky high expectations. If you choose to sit on the picnic tables while eating your ice cream you may be rewarded with a beautiful view of the market and Mount Royal. There is always a small line up in front of the counter, but it moves fast. Make sure you have cash, no cards are accepted. All of the above of course wouldn't matter if the ice cream is not of best quality and indeed it is. There are six ice creams and six sorbets on the daily list. They rotate seasonally so every time there may be a little surprise of new flavour waiting for us. The goodness comes in three cup sizes and cones of one or two scoops. I normally opt for the smallest cup, you can still fit two flavours in it. My favourites this season are the chestnut ice cream and the coconut milk sorbet. My pistachio choice was wonderful - perfect amount of sweet. A slight salty taste from the nuts. One of the best things about Montreal Summer is revolved around food, and Havre-aux-glaces is no exception to the rule! This location is situated along the Lachine Canal, right across from one of Montreal's best known markets, Marché Atwater! The great thing about being near the canal is that there are many things the area offers aside from the market. You can rent bikes, a canoe or kayak, dragon boat practices, Terrace Ste-Ambroise for a brew, and when the heat is on, a great perfectly located place for Artisanal Sorbet and Gelato/Ice Cream. Not only do they taste awesome, but the flavours are inventive as well as having some classics! My brother and I tried the Cassis and Mango. Mango is one of my favourites and they did not disappoint. Cassis was also quite good, and next time, I would definitely pair it up with lemon sorbet! Located just across the street from Marche Atwater (closer to the side of the canal), Havre-aux-Glaces has an assortment of icecream and sorbet flavours. Their flavours are pretty creative and I definitely appreciate how their icecream has fillings in it (e.g. nuts, crumbs, etc.) I went with a small cup with the bissap sorbet and pistachio ice-cream. For a hot summer day, the portion was just right, and for one serving, I feel like a small is the right amount. The sorbet was very flavourful - both tangy and sweet, definitely not a flavour I've seen elsewhere before. The pistachio was pretty rich too, and had some pieces of pistachio in it, which I definitely appreciated. It was also very creamy and not that sweet as compared to the sorbet, which was a pleasant surprise. Lines do get long on hot, summer days, especially around the afternoon, so plan accordingly! read more

We went there last night, on a warm spring evening. Perfectly situated near the Atwater market and next to the Lachine Canal. We got the 'strawberry and pepper' which was delicious, surprisingly, and the maple crème brulée which was good though lacked a bit of 'dairy/milky' background to me. So far though, probably the best ice-creams we've had in Montreal. PS: It's a cash only so come with change in your pocket. read more

Cannot beat the location: Marché Atwater and the Lachine Canal. Came here late in the evening with a friend and the queue wasn't too bad. Despite a huge sign saying 'cash only', people were clutching their credit cards and being denied once they got to the counter...read people! The ice cream was yummy, but there were issues with the refrigeration because the ice cream was melting before it was even handed over to me with a warning that it was kinda soft, so I had to eat it super fast and couldn't really walk around with it. Liked this place a lot, mostly for the location, but it's really not the most extraordinary ice cream that this city has to offer. read more

The other reviewers are 100% correct. This is the best gelato I have tried in Montreal. Where Billboquet was underwhelming, every flavour I have sampled from Havre Aux Glaces has been extraordinary. They keep a freezer full of half-litres for takeaway in addition to the flavours in their cooler for sampling. Highly recommend the pear & sortilege as well as the ginger. read more

Absolutely delicious! I am a crazed ice cream lover and I'd say this is of my top spots downtown. I had two scoops, pistachio and raspberry, and they were both so flavourful and dense. I usually like having chocolate pieces or just 'stuff' in my ice cream, but the taste was enough that I didn't mind with just the cream. The waffle cone was thicker than the usual one-layered crust you find elsewhere which just makes it that much better. Definitely a must-try if you're near Atwater! read more

Love this place. Half of their gelato does not contain dairy, but unlike most places, is also not exclusively fruit. They usually have both coconut and chocolate-coconut available, which are as rich and creamy as ice cream. My go-to is coconut with raspberry. This is definitely the best gelato I've found in Montreal. Word of warning though, they only take cash! read more
