On our last full day on the island, my son was at the beach and got stuck by a sea urchin (wana). Several spines went into his heel through his beach shoes, and we played doctor by searching the Internet for symptoms and treatments. We got some vinegar at the store and soaked his foot, but couldn't remove the spines due to them being highly brittle. Things seemed ok, but later my son complained of pain while walking around Ali'i Drive, so we knew we had to resort to an expert just to make sure. A quick search led us to Aloha Kona Urgent Care which was close by and we're so glad we found this place! We just walked in without an appointment - fortunately we took the last spot of the day! We were welcomed by a nice receptionist, then seen by the friendly and funny Nico (sp?) from Germany who started a vinegar soak for him, and then finally Dr. Kim saw us. I so appreciated the patience they all provided, and the expert care and thorough explanations! I'm happy to say that things are much better now with my son's foot, as expected. This is definitely a good place to bookmark if you're ever in need in the area!

I probably owe Megan my life due to the condition I arrived in after being advised by the admissions coordinator, "Gabriel," to keep drinking during my trip to The Ohana to "maintain" instead of seeking medical treatment before arrival. The facility itself is definitely beautiful, but there were a lot of promises made by "Gabriel" that simply were not true once I arrived. There is no doctor on site. You're lucky if you see a therapist for even two hours a week. Most of the activity equipment is run down, unusable, or honestly dangerous. Activities are not what they advertise at all you're lucky to do two a week. You're promised snacks and drinks stocked in the fridge, but they are often non-existent, which leaves guests uneasy during already difficult times. Because of the massive amount of downtime they provide, clients like myself are forced to order our own entertainment , sports equipment, from DoorDash or elsewhere. Then when you do decide to order something, it can take days to get approved by "higher ups." For example, I tried ordering a basic hoodie and shorts and had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for approval. I'm not sure who runs this place above the staff members I mentioned, but I honestly feel sorry for them because they seem to have zero authority to make their own decisions despite being the people actually helping clients every day. There's much more I'm probably forgetting, but I'm just trying to write an honest review to warn people and help them make an informed decision before choosing this facility. Someone like myself that's doing self pay for 40+ thousand dollars this facility is absolutely not worth the money.

I would have given 5 points but I never do, but I'll tell you this is a strong 4.5..Any complaints I would have were so minimal and pretty irrelevant..Oh and the food was great and I was eating mostly vegetarian and they were very open to and made arrangements with the cooking staff for two if us beautifully. She was thorough and asked me all kinds of questions in order to be sure that she recommended the best solutions or strategies that were right for me. Communication with her staff is always great, they are kind and responsive. I later decided to book my pap with midwife Taylor Hamil, also at the Koa Clinic. I should not have been so surprised, given their dedication to great service, but she was amazing. If that procedure has ever given you anxiety, I highly recommend scheduling with Taylor. She's extremely professional, knowledgeable and kind. Absolutely the best service for medical care. Nothing is rushed and I always feel heard.

At this point, I was pretty desperate and thought that I could find someone else a bit quicker, so I declined to reschedule and asked that they destroy my paperwork (4 or 5 pages of personal medical history). I found a doctor (actually APRN) that I love and went my merry way. Then my APRN became sick and my intestinal issues returned. I thought that I would retry to get into the Koa Clinic. When I attempted to become a new patient, I was refused because I had refused to reschedule my appointment in March of 2024. Furthermore, during the text exchange (they do not answer phone calls) it became apparent that they still have my files in their records. I will be driving 2-1/2 hours to Hilo for treatment. There is nothing caring or considerate about the way this office is doing their business. UGH!!
