I'm a 6-year O'hana member, (meaning I pay $90/month to receive discounted massages at HES) initially with the Chandler HES which closed awhile ago. I then moved to the WV and started going to the Goodyear spa. Bear in mind, I've never had a bad massage at HES. The therapists are top-notch and the facilities are beautiful.
A few month ago, I was notified by the Goodyear spa, on a day that I was supposed to get a two hour massage, that the facility needed to close but would be opening again shortly. Later, I received an email remarking that they were having issues with some sort of landlord dispute. Given that the Chandler facility had already closed I had to wonder if something weird was going on with Goodyear as well.
Several months went by and the facility still did not open, so I called the last open facility at Scottsdale on February 26th.I expressed my concern about the two facilities that had closed, and it seemed that Goodyear was not going to reopen. I also told them that I had continued to pay my membership through Covid, at the request of the owner, Mike ibach, who begged his Ohana to not give up their membership so that they could stay in business. I was one of those members that stayed and continued to pay that $90 a month, even though the facility could not conduct any business during Covid.
The person that I spoke to assured me that the Scottsdale facility was going to stay open, and further calmed my fears by telling me that my favorite therapist had even moved over to the Scottsdale location. I asked how many credits I had on file and she told me I had 20. 20 at $90 each is $1800. That's how big my credit is that I have at Hawaiian experience Spa.
So I scheduled three appointments for March 19 and March 20. In the meantime, Hawaiian experience Spa attempted to charge me for my 21st credit and my March membership fee of $90. For whatever reason, my credit card was not allowing it to go through, and I assumed it was probably because of a new expiration date. I decided that I would rectify that when I went in for my appointment on the 19th.
Lo and behold, the owner sent everyone who had appointments, a message on the morning of the 19th telling us that they were having a problem with their new computer system and all treatments on the 19th would be canceled, but not to worry, they were going to have in more therapists to help catch-up and have everything up and running the next day. This letter was another bold-faced lie. Owner Mike Ibach knew their closing was going to be much more permanent. In fact, I'm guessing they knew months ago that the Goodyear spa was never going to reopen, but kept telling us it was, dangling that carrot, hoping to keep us from asking for our money back and quitting the program. Irresponsible, unethical, and downright dirty. They collected several more months of membership fees from me by keeping me thinking that Goodyear would reopen.
I called the Scottsdale facility after I received that message, this time being very concerned that this business was going to go completely under meanwhile holding on to $1800 of my money. Of course no one answered, and I left a message requesting to be called back.
On the 20th, a message was sent out early in the morning that all treatments were canceled. No additional follow up... Nothing about reopening... Nothing about new therapists... Nothing about anything at all.
I attempted calls to the facility again and when I chose the option to speak to an employee or at least leave a message... The phone was actually routed to a company that's not even related to Hawaiian experience Spa. I tried this phone call several times and was routed to this wrong direction every single time.
I have sent an email to Mr. Ibach asking him how he plans to pay me back or if they are ever going to reopen, and of course there's no reply. I'm just assuming that even though I've been there for them... They're going to stiff me. Granted I should've never been stupid enough to let my credits pile up that high however, I thought I was helping a local business who provided an amazing service. The way the owner of HES has treated his customers and kept their money is unethical. theft. If you look at other reviews of this facility and the one in Goodyear... You'll see other recent reviews just like mine. For those of you in the same boat as me... I am having my credit card company assist me with disputing monthly charges as far back as they can go for me, which is only four months. I'll also be attempting to recoup my money through small claims court. I'm sure these cowards are going to declare bankruptcy. What a shame... This place used to be absolutely amazing and I feel terrible for the rock-star therapists who are left without a job based on how these people have jerked them around. I'd give them -5 stars if I could... which is a shame, because there was a time that I recommended more than 5+ read more
