We've visited Running Water Spa a couple of times now. It's not what I'd consider a high-end spa, but it's still a relaxing and enjoyable space with nice amenities to use after your treatments. Both times, my boyfriend and I booked massages. After checking in, you're guided downstairs to the locker rooms where you're given an assigned key, robe, and slippers to get comfortable. The quiet waiting area before your service sets a calm tone, and each therapist we've had has been friendly and experienced. After your spa services, you're welcome to spend the rest of the day enjoying the pool and hot tub area. The space is a little outdated, but still peaceful. Both visits happened to fall on BINGO days by the pool, which was surprisingly fun--I even won a few prizes! There's a poolside bar, though no one has been outside either time to take orders. You can order directly at the window or head inside to a small bar and seating area. The same employee bartends and handles food service for both areas, so orders can take a bit longer--but they do their best, and the drinks are inexpensive and good. Overall, we've enjoyed both visits. While the pricing is comparable to some newer or more polished spas, this one makes up for it with its laid-back vibe and generous amenities. If you're after a luxury aesthetic, this might not be your place--but if you want a relaxing day with cheap poolside drinks and no rush, this is definitely a great spot to unwind. read more

We visited the running water spa over the weekend for my mom's birthday as a group. We booked 2 facials and 2 massages. Although it is not a nice as some other spas i've been to in Scottsdale, they do have a nice locker room and relaxation area. I was expecting there to be a sauna and steam room as well, but we couldn't find them and we weren't shown where they were. That was a little disappointing. The pool area was nice and clean, and we enjoyed getting drinks from the bar area, although I was expecting there to be a bartender walking around offering drinks but they do not do that there. The main reason I wanted to leave a review was because of services we received. As a group we felt like none of our therapists/estheticians used enough pressure and even when asked to use more, they did not. For my treatment, my provider did not explain any of the products she was using, nor did she ask what areas I wanted to be massaged during my treatment. I would have preferred a neck and shoulder massage but she massaged my feet without asking. Overall, I expect a facial to include a good amount of facial massage and pressure and unfortunately I didn't get either. I am definitely dissatisfied and regret spending the money. My esthetician was very nice and informative when it came to my at home routine, though! We will definitely not return in the future and we will frequent spas that we had a better experience at. Location is clean but needs updates, seems like it was updated in 2010 and then never again. The massage/facial were both 45 min (each) and the esthetician/ masseuse seemed extremely rushed. My opinion- do less and go slower. Felt like the esthetician was trying so hard to get every step/product completed that it ended up not being relaxing. I would really give them a 3.5. It's a nice little spa in the basement of the building. There's a nice spacious locker room and showers. No real space to get privately dressed. You get your robe and slippers in your locker when you arrive, dress in the locker room, then go into the waiting room which is nice and relaxing. It's dimly lit and has relaxing sounds playing with a cold water dispenser. The massage was AMAZING. Yvette did a great job! My facial was done by someone who I later learned just graduated so I won't name her. She did a great job overall but my main complaint is a major one. As she was massaging certain items into my face, she would swipe her hands up from my chin to my forehead. The issue is that she would have chemicals on her gloves so when she would swipe up, the chemicals would land inside of my eyelids. When I left the massage room, I could barely see and it felt like oil was in my eyes. It took about 2 hours for my eyes to feel completely better. I had to Uber to a place 5 mins from the hotel to eat when I originally planned on driving but I was scared because it was difficult to see. My sister got a facial by the same person and had the same issue. The front desk staff was nice and courteous. They even made it clear we could leave our belongings in the lockers until we left the resort. We had a Groupon for the massage, facial, and access to the resort all day. read more

The spa seemed very relaxing but only had a small area for relaxation The services - this is where this place really shined. The facial was very nice and relaxing. The massage was amazing one of the best I have had. Steve was amazing. When you book you are informed that you do have use of the facilities for the day. But keep in mind the pool is for the resort guests as well. So it s not a quiet atmosphere. The pool is also in full sun with no shade for the water except for the kiddie po Also they have a very old time country and western station on- think old old country with full twang. It does switch every 2 hours but, 2 hours is 119 minutes too much of that. The drinks at the pool were very tasty and reasonably priced. read more

5 stars for the massage, 4 stars for amenities! I was gifted this massage for my birthday and couldn't wait to check out The Running Water Spa. When I called to make the appt, they were super friendly, and I was also greeted with smiles when I arrived. This spa was a lot smaller than I was expecting! I guess I pictured a resort-style spa, but this was just a tad under that. It had a cute little locker room with about 20 lockers. They give you a key when you arrive, you open your assigned locker, and inside is a robe and sandals. The locker room had a few showers, 2 areas to get ready, blow dryers, combs, razors, sunscreen, lotion, etc. They definitely have everything that you need, it was just on the smaller side, so on a busy weekend, I can imagine it gets pretty tight in here. The restrooms are outside of the locker room. I would say the entire locker room area was about the size of a large restaurant bathroom. They don't have a sauna or steam room. You do have access to the main resort pool which also has a jacuzzi. The relaxation room was definitely quiet and quaint - I loved the running water art piece on the wall. So soothing! The chairs were comfortable but it would have been nice to have an ottoman to put your feet up! I was surprised that they didn't offer any water or tea, too. I arrived a little early expecting to sip on something, but there wasn't anything. I did ask for a water bottle and got one right away, so that was good! This may be a covid safety thing - I'm not super sure. As for my massage - IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Seriously one of the best that I've ever had. Sharon was my therapist. I will come back just to see her. I walked in with a headache and out feeling SO relaxed. It was just what this mama needed. Thank you, Sharon! All in all, if you're looking for a full-size resort spa with a sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi in the locker room, a private spa pool, etc. this isn't your spot! However, If you're looking to come for a great service and to lay by the main pool, grab a bite at the bar, etc. I'd recommend! Such a lovely little spa! Took my daughter here for so much needed pampering. We had the best facial and massage we took the time to go outside to the Jacuzzi in the pool area which was nice and clean we went on a Wednesday so there was nobody running around and it was totally peaceful and quiet. The relaxation room is tiny but quaint and lovely and relaxing they have the nicest comfy chairs if you just lean back they will recline. As well as upon paying they jacked up the 20% tip price that was actually portraying at 40% tip and without knowing many people tip more than they wanted/expected. Two weeks ago, I had the worst experience with this hotel and spa that I have ever had in my entire life.  The absolute worst.  I live here in Phoenix and my sister and I were looking for a place where we could get a massage, lunch, and some drinks at the pool.  Scottsdale Camelback Resort was not that place.  First of all, the term "Resort" is a misnomer, because this place is far far from resort quality.   We had called ahead the day before and asked if we were allowed to use the hotel gym before our 11 AM appointments and we were told that was fine.  Despite this, the woman at the front desk was completely caught off guard and totally frazzled that we were there.  She kept muttering about how early we were.  All we needed was a locker to stash our stuff--it should not have been that big of a deal, especially since we asked first.  Since there is a restaurant on site (allegedly), we asked if it was open and we could grab a coffee.  Nope.  Nothing open before noon.  Ok fine--stupid but fine.   The massages were 50/50.  My actual massage was great and someone should let my massage therapist know that he can do much better than this dump.  My sister was unfortunately put in a massage room next to the bathroom.  Being able to hear bathroom conversations and toilets flushing is not really a "resort" spa experience!  We tried to speak with the spa manager, Angie, about this issue and there was literally nothing in the world she could have cared about less than our experience there.  We were told that everyone complains about that room and management just does not do anything about it.   After the massages, we thought we would grab lunch at the restaurant that should be open and use the pool.  We went to the restaurant and were informed that they could not take cash or credit cards and could ONLY do room charges.  But we were not staying at the hotel, so there was no possibility for food or drink.  At that point, we decided to cut our losses and go somewhere else.  When we tried to check out, we got a whole new set of issues. I had a gift certificate, my sister did not.  You would have thought we were asking these people to solve differential equations.  I have actually never seen incompetence of this level.  No one could work the computer system and no one could properly ring up two massages, one paid for with credit card and the other paid for with gift certificate.  The front desk woman charged us double and struggled to understand that.  The manager, Angie, would stop by and help for a second and then wander off (because again, this lady just does not give a flying F about anyone setting foot in this spa).  Finally, she says to us, "you better sit down, because this will be a while."   We went to the front desk and spoke with the hotel manager, Erin.  While she seemed understanding and polite at the time, she was not able to resolve anything.  She told us that we could go and she would take care of the charges.  We were not surprised that she did not do this.  My sister was charged approximately double and had to dispute the charges with her bank to get her money back.  No follow-up call.  No apology. It was literally the worst and I have been to most of the actual resorts in the area.  You can go to a real resort, even the Phoenician right down the street, get a massage in the same general price range, and deal with people who can do simple things like....oh I don't know....math or even basic customer service. read more

Took my Mom here for a Mother's Day gift. We got a great Groupon- a massage and facial. They took your temperature. Only had 4 clients at a time. Everyone wore a mask. Everything was incredibly clean. Some of the best spa services I have ever received. Bought services for me and my husband from TravelZoo. I had booked the 50 minute massage and 50 minute facial. My husband had the 80 minute massage. First, the technicians were very good! Both my husband and I loved our massages. My massage was probably the most unique I've ever had, more pushing and gently pressing pressure points, but I walked away more relaxed than I ever have. I've never had a facial before so I don't know how it compares. She didn't try to sell me on products which I really appreciate. The facilities had just been renovated, we visited their very first day open since the renovation. I think they were still working out a few kinks but it went smoothly. This didn't feel like a traditional spa. It was more like a Massage Envy which isn't a bad thing but not what I was expecting. Only the girls locker room offers showers. The showers do not include soap or shampoo but they do have a hair dryer and a few other supplies for you to utilize. There is no steam room or sauna. You have to leave the locker room to go into the ladies restroom. The men's locker room is just a bathroom with lockers, no showers or other facilities. The men are referred to the pool showers. You do have access to the main resort pool and hot tub. The weekend we were there it wasn't very crowded but definitely had more of a family feel. read more

We went today for my friends birthday. There were 5 of us. Our massages and facials were amazing. There was only 1 bartender and you had to wait in line for 15-20 mins every time we wanted a drink. Also the bartender had a bad attitude all day that we heard multiple people complain about. While I was standing in line for a drink, there was a 15 year old girl standing behind me, I noticed this guy was pointing his phone at us. I watched for about 5 minutes making sure I saw what I saw and sure enough he pulled his phone in and moved his fingers on the phone as to "zoom in". From the line I called my friend who was sitting next to him to check and see if he was really taking pictures and sure enough HE WAS!!!! I immediately was pissed and found the guest services lady. She pulled him aside asked him then allowed him to go back and sit down. He basically laughed it off. I had to go to my facial appointment but was told later he just left. Also found out he's a MEMBER THERE!!!! so if I caught him this time I can only imagine how many other times he's done this. The guest service lady came to me and told me she "handled it." I asked her why she didn't call the cops and she said she talked to someone higher and "felt it wasn't their place" when I tell you I was pissed that's an understatement. I know I should've called them myself and I'm mad I didn't. I am so disappointed by the way this was handled. This wasn't something little it was serious and NOT OK. He was taking pictures of minors, KIDS!!!! The cops should have been involved. This is the guy who did it. I will NEVER be going back to this place. The massage therapist, Reuben, was wonderful, and the desk staff was very kind. But that was not enough to save the experience. This place should have been updated 15-20 years ago. I almost gagged when I saw the poop colored, cracked and chipped slide on shoes they wanted me to wear. I was thankful I brought my own slides and just wore those. The robes are so old that they look like second hand Goodwill quality with how faded they are. The esthetician had terrible breath and kept breathing in my face, and she wore baggy latex gloves that smelled bad and felt gross on my skin for the entire procedure. I was very excited for it to be over. I felt like there was guck covering my skin and face and raced home to take a shower. Most of all, this place needs a reno like yesterday. I used precious vacation time and money for a "spa day" and now I'm just happy it's over and I'm back in my clean, updated apartment. read more

I needed some relaxation time and last minute booked an 80 minute massage here. My massage was so relaxing and exactly what I needed. The service was great from the moment I walked in. Very friendly staff. My masseuse made sure I was comfortable. They have clean locker rooms with showers. I was given a locker with a robe and sandals. My massage ended right as they were closing and I had expressed interest in using the pool. They did not hesitate to accommodate me and allowed me to use the showers after I was done despite it being after their hours. It was so relaxing to take a dip in the pool after a massage. First, the bad. The locker room is tiny. I mean WAY too small and awkward. The restroom is separate from the locker/dressing area. There is a shower in the tiny locker room, but the blow dryers are in the bathroom. All very disjointed. 2nd, the biggest robes they offer are XXL, at one time. After washing and drying they are no longer that big. They need bigger robes. Now the good. The staff is friendly. Pela (unsure of spelling) gave the most amazing massage. An hour of complete relaxation. Then, on to THE most amazing facial I've ever had by Heather. Besides it feeling so good I very much appreciated there was no trying to sell the products. The spa itself is small but very quaint and clean. All of the staff is super friendly! I had my massage first with Kathy and she was AMAZING!!! I have a hard time relaxing and it had been almost 6 months since my last massage. She found a lot of pressure points and was able to work on them with ease and precision. She did a phenomenal job! Do not waste your money. I had a friend visiting in from out of town and had booked two massages. I called 2x. Once to make the reservation and a second time a week before the appointment to ensure that everything was smoothe sailing and to confirm the appointment. Upon arrival we were greeted extremely rudely where they informed us that we actually could not be treated at the time we had booked, and we would actually be an hour apart. The service was terrible. Great quality products, relaxing and got that great glow - however, the locker room "situation" is troublesome and awkward. Tiny. Hilariously tiny. The Running Water Spa is a lovely place to relax and unwind. The pool area is nice with lots of chairs and umbrellas. There is bar next to the pool with drinks and a food menu. I gave this as a gift thinking the birthday girl would be pampered. The feedback i got was horrible. The body massage was ok but the facial was a joke apparently. I was told she only spend total 20 mins on facial instead of 50. only ting she used was a facepack and 2-3 hot towels. Also in the middle of the facial, she was informed that "if you want me to clean the pores, it would be extra $10. ??? Your regular price is $105 on the website for just the facial. Is that really what you do for $105 or was it because of cheaper price on groupon? If yes, stop selling certificates like that. its stealing. Edit: Someone from the company reached out and offered a free session. Unfortunately my friend does not live in Phoenix anymore but i'll give them some points for trying to make amends. read more

It is really not a spa, more like a basement with treatment rooms, lockers, and a dry sauna. I likely would have given a higher rating if my appointments would have been earlier then 5 and 6. It was clear the massage therapist and esthetician were tired. The massage was fine but pressure was light. The facial was short, 40 minutes instead of the paid for 50. And most of the time cream was sitting on my face. I was disappointed that I did even receive a scalp massage. The steamer was broken and could only reach the right side of my face. I asked for it to be moved to the other side, sorry no extension cord. I bought a Groupon for $105 and tipped $30. Not sure this was a good value. read more

We show up only to be told that they didn't appropriate book our appointments so after travel, costs, time etc. We were left without a portion of our trip. They attempted to 'appease us' after many phone calls and emails until someone actually took the call and rescheduled us for a redo of the missed day. Once again, travel, time, costs, etc only to show up and have only ONE of the two appt booked. Unbelievable. Even more shocking- not one manager or representative from the spa or hotel has contacted us. Plus- everything you read on the locker room and shower area, 100% on point. I had a facial appointment at 5pm at 12/1 and my facial girl was amazing. Yes it was a Groupon special and yes it wasn't the best facilities but the service as amazing, the facilities were relaxing, and everyone was so friendly: my facial was so great, I was relaxed, my face was glowing, and I would go back again . Whoever complains is super unreasonable as This spa is priced well, and the service is great. Yes the facilities could use work but if it was bomb the prices would increase.
