The vibration of this shop was memorable! What a treat to see a seating area right in the middle of the store for sharing conversation, aloha or simply waiting while a friend shops. I first walked by over the weekend when they were closed and made a mental note to return. Of all the stores I wanted to visit and make an effort to go back to when they were open, was "The Hawaiian Force". Their window display is set so their variety and offering are easy to see. Upon entering today, I was pleased to be met with such grace and a feeling of power at the same time. The owner's wife Luana was seated in the meeting with 3 others, politely excused herself to assist my friend and me. We had a lovely chat about her family, Pele and the designs of the clothing and art that her husband created. I felt welcomed and moreover loved how I was received. The variety of clothes and designs are rich and significant of Hawaiian culture and what the essence of their store title holds. If you are interested in well made garments with a bit of a forward leaning edge in trend, it's bold pattern and style will be just right for you. Among all the scarves and authentic Hawaiian items for sale, you will find something that is a perfect fit for you, if not as a gift to "give aloha" to someone else. This small store had some cool designs in Hawaiian shirts, women's wear and Tshirts, but the women's tees had the same problem I encountered at Hawaiian Arts: American Apparel shirts (read: they run small and are flimsy fabric) and designs were sparse for various sizes (everyone shopping at these stores must be a medium because this size was wiped out). The lady ostensibly running the shop was sitting on her laptop and didn't engage with us at all. I might have been interested in buying something here if the size was right. Too bad. read more

I'm such a fan of Hawaiian Force. Their stuff is kind of expensive, but I guess because its a small business so I'm guessing that's why. Their designs, hats, stickers, clothing, etc is so manafull I love it. I bought a bunch of stickers and a trucker hat when I came through. The store owner was working this day and she was very nice and accommodating. Parking is pretty tight down in Hilo town, other then that my experience at Hawaiian Force was a positive one. :) read more

The Husband assumes a different personality on the islands, but I was still startled when he suggested we go inside a clothing store. I'm not much of a clothes shopper either and almost shrugged off the suggestion, even though we had been staring at the arresting graphics in the window display. Then he pointed to the octopus tank top near the entrance, which was too damned appealing. The clothes are locally designed (the graphic artist and owner has an MFA) with a beguiling range of the cheeky (octopus) to the unusual (lua weapons) but always infused with a strong sense of heritage, to the point of homeland defiance ("Aloha means go... A message from the kama'aina"). Ironically, all that makes this the ideal hipster splurge place. The tanks and t-shirts (short and long-sleeved) range somewhere between $18 and $30. (The joint also has hoodies.) Men's and women's shirts (sleeveless, short and quarter-sleeved) retail, if I can recall, go up to $80. Lots of variety, some designs available in different colors, and good cotton -- some American Apparel, some Hanes, so do try stuff on: I bought a tank in a small but would've had to buy a tee in a large. No, I didn't get both: There are limits to my hipsterism. read more

Neat prints and very similar to counterpart down the road for much less. The fabric is a little thinner for the dresses and the aloha shirts but comfy nonetheless. Hoping the fabric and colors stay just as bright and intact as Sig Zanes $100 dresses, but for about $50. Worth a try and much less people will own one of these prints. Owner/designer is cool. Dog is so precious and loves to be let. read more

So much Aloha in this store!!! Went there and as soon as we entered we were greeted by Aunty, so loving! Aunty and Uncle was so helpful. Aunty even give my husband a sticker. When I went back to exchange a gift that I got. The same Aunty was there and I told her I didn't have a receipt because it was a gift. She didn't hesitate to tell me go exchange it. I found a woman's shirt that I liked, but there was a price difference. My shirt that I chose was a little more, but she said that it was a gift so she wasn't gonna let me pay the difference. My 8 month old daughter also loved her, she was singing and talking to her the whole time!!! If that isn't customer service than I don't know what is. My family and I will continue to shop here and support our local businesses! read more

Nice store with alot of nice Aloha shirts. 99% of the time, I support locally made goods. Needless to say, I wanted to buy 3 Aloha shirts but the local girl working this day was no help. No greeting inside the store, no "how are things," "Did you need any help," or "can I help you find a size." She did not acknowledge me once while I was browsing. She was too concerned with folding clothes. Needless to say I put my shirts back and bought my shirts a few doors down the street. PS: if u want to make money, you should try to put on a smile and help your customer. read more
