First of all, I don't see why anyone feels the need to post something based on an experience YEARS ago. So if you're reading a post greater than 3 years old, I'd take it with a grain of salt. I'm speaking on my current experience with the director and staff who currently work there. A lot has changed since Christy took over as Director and they have all been extremely positive. I've seen a few teachers come and go and we still love Hawfields. As with every daycare and place of business...nothing is ever perfect and yes there are incidences that occur in every setting....BUT it is 100% how we as parents communicate and work with the teachers and the director to accomplish the best solution for our children. We've had our share of troubles with our 2 year old, but we came together as a family and worked towards a goal so we're all happy and our son is developing appropriately. It's all in HOW you address your concerns and issues with the staff and how the situation is handled. I don't feel as if anything I've ever communicated to the director or any teacher for that matter went unnoticed or not validated. Between my 2 children, I have had the pleasure of knowing every single teacher in every single classroom. We've been a Hawfield's family for almost 4 years and we love them! Most of the teachers love their jobs and trully care about the children they care for. I especially like that every staff member knows my kids names and are always very friendly to them. Both of my kids have/had the developmental structure they needed based on age, but I do think there could be a little more educational development in the younger age groups. Overall we love Hawfields and did shop around before picking a daycare. This one stood out in so many ways and we love the environment. My son still goes to Hawfields, but my daughter started kindergarten but she wants to go visit "her class" everyday. She still misses her teachers and my son loves his room. We love Hawfields and have always felt they are a second family to us. read more

Hawfields Child Care has provided excellent care in a safe and loving environment since my son was less than a year old. He is now 4 years old and has been in every room (Room 1-8 so far). The director (new in the last couple years) and the staff are amazing! The evidence that my son is well taken care of is so clear when I see that he runs in with a big smile each day and comes home telling me all about his wonderful day. The teachers have shown outstanding dedication and care as well as instruction as my son has learned many new songs, dances, his letters, how to write his name, etc. The cooks are excellent (most mornings I wish I could have breakfast there too). It's a joy to interact with both the director and the administrative staff whether I want to ask questions or get an update on things or whether they are simply greeting me with their beautiful smiles when my son and I come and go. The price is very affordable. The quality of the care provided is just as excellent as the expensive child care my oldest son had in Durham/Chapel Hill before we moved to Mebane. Hawfields receives my highest recommendation and I am confident each day that I leave my son in their hands...that he will not only have fun but will be lovingly cared for and safe! read more

Moving back to NC two years ago was a hard transition on our 2-year-old (at the time) daughter. We started at another local facility and the experience was awful. I was to the point, in 6 days, that I debated not going back to work and we would just have to make drastic spending cuts. Then my prayers were answered. I received a call from Hawfields saying they had an opening. The teachers had such patience and took great care to make my daughters transition as easy as possible. They gave me tips on how to make drop off better for both myself and my daughter, they loved and supported her in ways that made her feel comfortable staying. Now we have two children who both attend. With our oldest going to Kindergarten next year, we are purposely placing her at Garrett Elementary so she can attend after school at HCC. We even use several of the afternoon teachers as babysitters on the weekends. I have seen a few negative reviews and I have to say, I have never experienced any of the things they are saying. read more

We have been at Hawfields since my son was a year old, he will be starting Kindegarten this summer (year round school). We have always found that he is well taken care of while at Hawfields, and his development while at Hawfields has exceeded our expectations. The teachers there are wonderfully caring and love the kids. His teacher at hawfields set the pace for potty training and he was fully trained by 2.5 years. I am very confident that my son is ready for kindergarten because of his education at hawfields. He knows all of his letters by sight and sound and can sign the alphabet. He knows at least a dozen sight words. Just last night he said the word "stair" then sounded it out and was able to tell us stair must start with an "S-T-" All of this and he isn't even 5 yet. He comes home with wonderful art projects all the time, has learned dozens of songs and performs them at a local nursing home. read more

My grandson's have been at Hawfieds Child Care for seven (7) weeks now. We have found Hawfields to be very well organized with excellent staff that make it a fun place to be. We talk with our grandsons and their teachers everyday, we have been very well pleased with comments from both sides. We have never witnessed any type of disapline problems from any of the classes, and believe me, we take the time to know what is going on in any place our grandchildren are. We give Hawfields Child Care four thumps up. This is a place you can trust. Also, I would like to say, we speak with the director, Ellen Lawrence, almost everyday. She is a very pleasant and talented lady. She is on top of everything that happens at Hawfields. All of the staff are very positive mentors for the children. read more

My daughter has attended Hawfields Child Care for four years. This is an extremely caring and kind school. We have loved her teachers and staff and have partnered with many of the teachers on assisting my daughter through developmental and learning transitions. The staff is personable and approachable at all times. The learning curriculum is direct and well thought out. The kids are encouraged and celebrated on achievements and never pushed too far. The center is focused on growing in the right directions, we continue to hear about good initiatives for the entire school. We have loved this school and will be sad to say good bye when we start kindergarten. read more

Ok my kids have been going to Hawfields for after school care and day care service, I have one boy one girl at 2 years old and a 7 year old girl. Yes they have gone through stuff as such is normal for kids at that age to behave in that manor but overall the staff has been honest and have accounted for problems with reports. I don't think we should blame the teachers that sacrifice their time and efforts to caring for our kids when the problems usually originate at home in most cases. My son has attended Hawfield's for over a year and it has been a very positive experience. The teachers treat my son as if he was their own and I feel very comfortable knowing he is well taken care of. I like all of the arts and crafts that my little boy has brought home to us and I can tell they are really tapping into his creative side. The school is ran in a structured environment so they make sure the kids in each classroom are grouped by age and learning aptitude. If we have any issues I feel they are addressed in a timely and professional manner. read more

My son has been at Hawfields since he was less than three months old...he is now almost 2...so we have moved through 4 of the rooms and I cannot say enough positives about the child care facility. The teachers and staff are very friendly and caring and treat my son as if he were their own. The director is present, approachable, and willing to listen to and address any concerns. As a parent of 2, I can vouch for the fact that biting is simply an unfortunate phase of being a toddler. There is no 'policy' short of expelling offenders that can address it. The fact that the previous poster attack the director in such a personal manner on such a public forum shows what little class or cooth she possess. Biting is normal. Ask your pediatrician. I've had 2 children in Hawfields over a period of about 10 years. I have had my children at Hawfields for over 7 years. This is by far the best daycare I know of. I postponed going back to work until I could get a spot at Hawfields for my twins because I knew that was the only place I would feel comfortable leaving them. It is a warm loving place and the staff is so friendly and treat the kids great. You won't find a better daycare than this! read more

Actually, there is a bullying and biting policy in effect in the parent handbook. I have never had any such issues and have two children in their care. I have always had quality care from staff. The Director, although she is matter-of-fact, has never been anything but helpful to me and my family. My children love Hawfields and are excited about going each morning. read more
