So if you know anything about Hawthorne parks past you know that shady, seedy, vagrant knife fights and murders were all too common. Medford has decided to reclaim the park, cleaning it up and updating it. The homeless encampments have been cleared out, limbs trimmed and park redesigned. Not sure what will be done with the old spot where the pool was (didn't go check it out, follow up review?). I'm glad to see yet another park recently updated and improved by Medford parks and rec. this is yet another job well done as the new park has 3 kids play areas (see pics) and a soon to be installed water park/play area as well. New restrooms and bigger parking lot have been added too. The new layout is a stark comparison to the past. It's very open and inviting making it much more family/pedestrian friendly... Worth another look to see where our tax dollars are going.

This is an awesome park!! If you have kids in need of getting some energy out, this is the place!!! Water park, grass, play equipment for all ages. Exercise area and canoes in the sand pit. Yes the homeless are here. We stay close with our kids and haven't had any issues. As with anywhere you go with kids, keep an eye out. That means put your phone down and pay attention! You know who you are. :)

Beautiful morning strol run bike in this paved location along the river

I love the water play they offer. My only negative comment is that the homeless hang around so you need to keep a good eye on your children.

The OG flagship park for Medford. Gone is the huge wooden play structure we grew up on where battle…read morewounds were earned from hitting your head running up and down the labyrinth of stairs and hiding spots. Gone are the onslaught of splinters, burns from the hot metal slides and being attacked by the countless wasps hiding in the nooks, crannies and roof peaks. Even back then, this was the park to go to! Fast forward to a recent refresh, the playground is still sprawling and super diverse, something for everyone! Wood has been replaced by plastic and metal but the laughter of kids as they run wild is still here. The only downside is maybe the lack of parking, but on hot summer days you'll find the ice cream truck posted up in the lot closest to the playground. What I really love about this park is that's it's more than just a playground. The greenway cuts through it making bike riding an awesome option. Keeping in that theme, there's a BMX style dirt track with whoops, table tops and fat banks and burms. A comprehensive skateboard park, tennis courts, a huge open grassy area, covered seating for parties and a large dog park round out this sprawling Medford classic.

My 4-year-old was sad that she couldn't play bear; hopefully the bear house will be replaced. If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

It's placed pretty deep. But could keep your kids busy for hours if you can unearth it. I wish the park would post that it's there. Happy digging.

That feature was fun and there was enough water to wet enough sand to cool off and to have fun with but they really should have it working if they want to call it open. There is a wooded area and some grasslands surrounding the developed area but the park is in the middle of a new foothills subdivision with construction of houses still underway. Some of those very nice houses view onto the restroom facility, though it is a solar collector facility of which they seem quite proud. Plus the restroom odor is apparent on the picnic deck. They do have a few kinks to work out. The climbing rock is unique for an artificial venue. It is a huge boulder with chunks of natural stone attached, apparently with hidden bolts and some sort of adhesive. Some areas are easy enough for amateurs, others more difficult. There is a paved walking path with features designed for educational use and appears to be handicapped accessible. There is a more rustic natural area too, with lizards and what appeared to be poison oak. I'd love to see this place fully operational and be able to review it again. My local hosts had heard it was open and fun for kids so we went and visited for part of an afternoon.
