I wanted to like this restaurant and gave it several chances, but the experience has been poor each time. Service was inattentive, we weren't greeted, and our server didn't engage with me only my fiance. Food came out cold and was missing basics like ketchup. While the pie was good, I've unfortunately gotten sick after eating here on three separate occasions. There's also a persistent mold/mildew odor. Happy with everything, but the vegetables, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, etc. are lukewarm at best. They become cold very quickly. Even asked for food to be hot and it still is barely warm. This is the one thing that keeps me from going there more often. read more

The food in this restaurant is pretty close to the absolute worst we have ever eaten. Person who waited on us swore there was no pepper or salt used in their kitchen by their cooks and yet the mashed potatoes were speckled black and tasted like black pepper as did other items we ordered. The meatloaf tasted like breadcrumbs and ground beef and black pepper. Just NOT good. No onions, no green peppers, no tomato, no flavor. The steak was as tough as a shoe sole. After trying all these dishes, we are giving up on this place. We love this place. Always friendly staff and the food is good too. Can not beat the prices and it is nice to have a local family place to be a regular at. Not sure why people are giving it bad reviews. Especially to compare it to restaurants in Leesburg....if that atmosphere is what your looking for, than this is not the place for you. This restaurant should change its name to "Hey...if you're not already a familiar face, we are definitely not going to treat you like...Family Restaurant." The food is mediocre at best...not at all like mom's home cooking or the kind of food you would expect off the beaten path for a good hometown dive restaurant breakfast. Literally, what customer service? Our waitress lacked a personality to begin with. I highly doubt she would have been capable of even spelling the phrase "customer service". She failed so miserably. The restaurant failed by serving food that was cold, incorrect, and I'm pretty sure the coffee comes before the meal. All four of us waited patiently for our beverages. We looked at the table and then up at each other in bewilderment when our meals arrived. But no coffee. How hard is it to make coffee versus a typical full breakfast entree? Really people? We were served a free, fresh, piping hot side of attitude when we made our correct food choices known and reminded her that we were still waiting for our beverages. Once she brought the coffee, she did not return to the table. Another waitress checked us out. The ambiance of the place is straight out of the movie Deliverance. The place is dirty and run down...not in a quaint/rustic charm way at all. The place has a musty odor reminiscent of mold and mildew rather than good old aged hardwood. Adding another nail in the proverbial Winchester, Virginia, social coffin. A word to the wise, if you're not "from around here" do not expect a warm welcome or genuine smile. Don't expect the waitress to deliver your coffee until after your breakfast entree has been served. Don't expect them to be polite or courteous if you need to correct anything about your order. Don't question the coffee delivery part of the service. Just don't.... About the only thing you can expect is a trip through the drive through at McDonald's down the road a little ways (but the shake machine is always broken). It's hard to beat the country breakfast portions at this family restaurant. I was in town to see the Blues House benefit concert and local knowledge recommend this place for family style home cooking. As you can see from my pic, the scrapple portions at two slices was quite generous. The #4 on the breakfast menu comes with two eggs, whole wheat toast and hash browns. I added the bowl of grits which was especially large as well. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the price was unbeatable for what you get. Didn't even try it. Went with a big family get together and the food didn't look or sound good. The waitress was there nearly 20years and didn't even give us a recommendation that was worth while. The smell was of mild and mildew and the prices were inexpensive but at a scary low price at today's economy. When we left the back room we were the youngest people there in low 40s age. It's a good stop for an extremely cheap meal. They could double their prices and still compete with my local diner. Mostly friendly staff and the meal was served in minutes. Good stopping point if you're in the area. I would have rated higher but... I ordered a blueberry muffin thinking that way out in the country they must have a great homemade muffin, but it came fresh out of the microwave still in the plastic packaging. It's got a spacious location and the staff is very friendly. I ordered the steak and egg breakfast (mind you it's only a 4oz steak) with 2 eggs over medium, home fries (with onion) and white toast. I love their coffee, most places you go to, while you do get the bottomless cup, the coffee is weak not the case here. I did feel that the home fries could have used some additional cooking, there was a lack of the crispiness that one would expect. My over medium eggs' yolks were almost all solid so there was little to disperse over my home fries. The little steak was definitely the star as it was cooked to medium rare perfection and tasted great. I will definitely come back. read more

Great diner with the small town feel. Ask the waitress for menu items that include fresh andt local meat, eggs and produce. Daily specials were $5 with generous portions. We have driven past this place for years now and have never stopped. There always seems to be a lot of cars in the parking lot so we decided to give it a try. This will be our first and last time to "dine" here. The interior is outdated and atmosphere less than pleasurable. The meat tasted like one of those frozen patties and was cooked in the microwave most likely. The gravy was thick, but not real tasty. The mashed potatoes were okay. The green beans were very bland and I had to add salt and pepper to at least help some. Our server was not the friendliest, but not rude. We just never saw her again until it was time to pay. I have to say the apple dumpling was out of this world. I think it is the only thing that is actually "home made." The main meal definitely is not. We will not be going back here. read more

Gross. The place is grimy and dusty, the servers are rough-looking and the food is nasty. If you want a laid-back diner experience, go to Amherst Diner in town. My wife and I decided to go venturing, so we figured we'd try this spot, based on reviews. They were right: the place is friendly and the food is good and large (ever see a coffee tankard?) The reason this review isn't a five-star is mainly because it being out of the way on a highway, the lack of advertising (unless you're a local) really doesn't give you much warning to slow down or turn. Great place that is normally patronized by local country residents. We drive the extra distance from town for breakfast, lunch or dinner what ever we are in the mood for because the food is always good. Reasonably priced. Home made desserts. The only draw back and why I didn't "5 STAR" is because they have smoking in the back of the restaurant that filters out into the main dining area. That has ruined things more than once for me but if you go at certain times of the day and sit up towards the front you can avoid the odor of the smoke. read more
