They are both super personable, have hilarious stories, and gave awesome advice for the rest of our trip. Anybody (young or old) would feel comfortable & get along well with them. They were so patient when teaching me, meanwhile giving my boyfriend some space to do his own thing! We caught plenty of fish, primarily haddock, which we ended up taking home with us. Captain Pete is a seasoned, safety-conscious professional with a fun, entertaining personality. His boat "Teazer" is immaculate and equipped to the hilt. Stormy weather was forecasted for our scheduled shark fishing trip, which would've taken us 25 miles offshore. With an 11 year old aboard, there were concerns about discomfort and sea-sickness. Captain Pete was very flexible, and instead of taking us off shore, brought us to an area where we fished for groundfish. With the fishing slow, we picked up and steamed to another area to try it out. When Captain Pete realized that all 5 of us were handling the rough conditions quite well, he offered to take us out to the old lightship area to fish for sharks as well as groundfish. This would take us further offshore, but not all the way out to the regular sharking grounds. We continued catching groundfish, and also successfully brought in a nice blue shark before heading back in at the end of the day. The mate, Alex, was also outstanding. He was a very knowledgeable, friendly gentleman who kept all of the gear and bait in order so we could continue fishing throughout the day. He didn't stop working! We all plan on making this an annual tradition, and look forward to heading back out with Teazer again next summer.

I was concerned the course would be too basic, having spent a lot of time on sailboats over the years, but it is a prerequisite for the more advanced courses - Coastal Cruising (ASA103) and Bareboat Cruising (ASA104) - so I signed up. The time on the water at the helm in sustained 38kn winds with gusts over 40kn (thanks to the aftereffects of Hurricane Erin) was invaluable. Dagiel's coaching and feedback had me confidently holding course in even the strongest gusts, something a previously found too unnerving. This newfound confidence is worth it's weight in gold, and I did learn a few new terms and regulations I wasn't aware of. I would definitely take the advanced classes with Dagiel anytime. Just need to save up some $$ :)

It was super luxe with an awesome sound system, a canopy for shade, plenty of storage and tons of room for everyone to sit. They don't call it the minivan of the boating world for nothing! Lol The team that set us up was great and they took their time orienting us to the boat. Adding on the SEA BEAST took the adventure up a level and the kids had a blast being pulled behind the boat. We lucked out with beautiful weather the water was amazing. The lake was warmer than the ocean, clear and refreshing. Even though my husband thought leaving our beach vacation for a day on the lake was nuts-- he thanked me later. We can't wait come rent a boat again!

Aqua diving academy is a shop tucked off of commercial street in Portland with a smaller sized…read moreparking lot in front of the shop that is free (though plenty of parking on street). It looks small on the outside so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I tell ya this shop has TONS of awesome gear for its size! I needed a snorkel and new mask, with an older one and old fins I brought in to have them look at for an upcoming trip to Tahiti and found many to try on and compare. The sales person I had was great- he was patient, helped me analyze my fit and things to pay attention to and tricks to get a good seal for a good mask fit and pros/cons of different types. He also looked at the well used older fins I brought in and rather than say they looked like the needed to be replaced as I had thought, inspected them for dry rot etc to make sure the condition looked ok and said as long as I'm comfortable in them they should be fine rather than buying new. He looked at my snorkel and could see one of the seals was no longer working. I looked at new fins too just in case I needed a back up. Good selection of reef safe sunscreens and other accessories like waterproof bags, etc. I was most surprised by how many wetsuit options (full,shorty, etc) they offered, including thermal tops and bottoms,many of which could be also used for surfing and other sports and many were not highly priced like i thought I'd find at a dive shop. Obviously if you are a diver they have quite a bit of dive gear and I believe they offer education/pool/diver certification through them as well. Loved my mask and snorkel on the trip I took, snorkeling multiple times per day it was a major step up in performance and comfort from my US divers inexpensive one prior. All in all highly recommend this shop!

We then took a few snorkeling lessons with Angel which prepared us for an upcomig trip. I feel much more comfortable and confident in the water. Angel was a terrific teacher and coach - and she is clearly doing something she is passionate about.
