The food service department at this hospital needs a complete overhaul. My mother has severe celiac…read moredisease and cannot have wheat or gluten, yet approximately 95% of the meals she has been served during her recent hospitalizations have arrived with gluten-containing items or have otherwise been prepared incorrectly. She has been hospitalized three times in the past month, and every single time we have had to watch her meals like a hawk because the food service department repeatedly gets her dietary restrictions wrong. At this point, when she receives a meal that is actually correct, it feels like a miracle. Getting her order wrong has become the norm. We have repeatedly explained her dietary restrictions to the staff. We have met with the kitchen manager, spoken with the patient advocate, alerted her care teams, and made sure her celiac disease and dietary restrictions are clearly documented in her chart. Despite all of this, the mistakes continue. Just today, she ordered a meal specifically without gravy and without a bun. They brought her a meal with gravy all over it and a hamburger bun. She had to send the entire meal back. This is not an isolated incident--it is one of what feels like dozens of meals that have had to be sent back because the food service department failed to follow her dietary restrictions. What is especially frustrating is that the department has actually tried to blame these repeated mistakes on construction. That is not an acceptable excuse. Even if construction were somehow affecting food service operations, the hospital still has an obligation to provide patients with food that is safe for them to eat. And celiac disease is only one type of dietary restriction or food allergy. There are many patients in a hospital who may be dealing with serious food allergies or medically necessary diets. Some patients may not be able to see their meal clearly, may be confused, exhausted, sedated, or simply assume that the hospital has provided them with food that is safe to eat. They may eat something they should not and become seriously ill. For someone with a severe food allergy, the consequences can be life-threatening. That is what makes this so disturbing. This isn't about getting the wrong side dish or an incorrect meal preference. This is about patient safety. The LSMC Food Service Department is putting patients in DANGER and nobody is doing a darn thing. We have raised the issue repeatedly with multiple people, yet nothing seems to change. Patients with serious dietary restrictions should not have to rely on themselves or their family members to catch potentially dangerous mistakes before they eat. Patients deserve better than this. Safe food should be a basic part of safe patient care. What if a patient suddenly had breathing trouble directly because of food service not being competent around allergies? This is a MAJOR LIABILITY to Patients and the hospital. LSMC do better and start caring about this before someone gets seriously ill or dies because of your food service incompetence!

Most Doctor's don't listen or it seems they're just too busy and want to get the day over with. Or some doctors just think they know everything without even listening to the patients on what's best for them. Doctor Kyle Miller will hear you out. Ask you many questions. He will make sure your health's on track. He will give you answers with reassurance. Also the front desk receptionist are super cool too! I'm glad I came here! Thanks Dr. Miller and team!!!

I made an appt when I got home and it took nearly 2 months to get in. Today they call me while I am literally driving to my appt and say "sorry we can't see you today since you haven't been here in a while you're a new patient". I've had the appt for almost 2 mo the and they only figure that out 30 minutes before I'm supposed to be there? The right thing to do would have been to go ahead and see me but I guess this practice isn't interested in doing the right thing. The front and back office will ruin a Dr's office for you everytime. It's rarely the physicians fault. I will be finding a more competent office going forward. That is deplorable customer service. No one seems to want to do the right thing anymore sadly.

After 3 years apparently you're discarded and considered a new patient, and every PCP office I called within the Lees Summit and surrounding areas either aren't accepting new patients or they're not scheduling new patient appointments for a minimum of 5-8 months, leaving me without help after severely injuring my back, I was in so much pain, and I needed immediate care, so I made a same day appointment (on a Sunday) at NextCare Urgent Care is Lees Summit (off of McBaine Drive), and they exceeded my expectations in every way. First, you can make an appointment online, and they honor those appointments (no matter how many walk-ins are there before you.) In addition I have received exceptional care. I've been twice in the last 2 weeks, and have had to call in multiple times. They are always quick to respond and incredibly helpful. From the front desk (who is also the R.T./x-ray tech), to the nurse who was so kind, caring and helpful, to the Dr/FNP Thomas Sims, I have received excellent care. I cannot say enough great things about them. If you need immediate care (that doesn't require going to the ER) I encourage you to make an appointment with NextCare Urgent Care in Lee's Summit. You will not be disappointed.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Mike Ausmus for 30+ years. He was wonderful. Over the…read moreyears, though, St. Luke's primary care became worse and worse. The bureaucracy became impenetrable. Patients could not schedule an appointment without waiting months - even in an emergency or when post-hospitalization checkups where immediately needed. Patients could not call their doctors. The Central Scheduling office that handles all patient communication knows nothing about medical care, always says it will be 5 to 6 months to get an appointment, even in an emergency. And, the Urgent Care office is notoriously horrible; even St. Luke's doctors recommend going elsewhere. Since Mike retired it has become infinitely worse. We received a letter telling us we'd been "reassigned" to another doctor - like cattle. However, that was not true. When we called to make an appointment for an urgent issue, we were told we did not actually have a doctor. We would need to schedule a new patient appointment - 9 months later. I scheduled new patient appointments for each member of our family, and the doctor cancelled some of them and did not show up for the others. It's been a year now, and our children have not seen a doctor. St. Luke's management has lost its way. By putting up all these barriers between patients and doctors, they are effectively committing malpractice. I would strongly recommend choosing another primary care office.
