Petri dish culture technology (invented in the year 1887) is still being used by hospitals, emergency rooms, urgent cares, and likely your Primary Care Physician. I imagine the Microgen DX DNA testing will completely replace all this antiquated Petri dish testing in the next few years. I had to visit urgent care one day due to a 103° F fever and painful urination. The urinalysis came back clean and the urine culture test results were underwhelming. Luckily, I have one of the top primary care physicians in the country ( Kelly K. McCann) and she set me up with the Microgen DX test kit. The test results showed my bladder had multiple pathogenic bacterial species. The results ALSO showed the antibiotics most-likely to be efficacious for treating this infection! No more broad-spectrum "guessing game" antibiotics needed for UTIs! Their testing even picked up an active infection in my prostate, for which I had zero symptoms but we treated with antibiotics until the test came back clean. By treating this prostate infection that I had no idea I had, I've likely reduced my risk for developing prostate cancer down the road. Feel free to share this testing method with your PCP or reach out to Microgen DX to find a practitioner in your area that already utilizes it. Testing is not that difficult to do yourself but it can helpful to have a doctor helping you with concurrent dosing of biofilm busters, and of course someone to write the RX for the antibiotics or antifungals. I do still give it only 4 stars because even if you have an appointment and there are only a couple people in line, it's still always a wait.. and sometimes a considerable one.
