I had previously written a review about dissatisfaction with this gym not having youth monthly dues rates. I got a response from the business that they wanted to make this right. Played phone tag for about two months to finally hear that a decision was made by executives not to have monthly youth rates. What a waste of mine and staff time. The Manager stated during our call "well, The Club in Mckinleyville doesn't have youth monthly rates". HS could have done something very good and decided to make it appear like they were interested in being more family friendly and then decided not to. read more

Even though I enjoy the gym and classes, every time I am in the locker room or take a sauna (which is every time I'm at the gym) someone is in there using their phone. It is posted on the outside of the door and inside as the first rule of privacy and etiquette phones are not allowed, but many of the females at the Eureka location do not respect this rule. It is upsetting after numerous complaints to management to do something- anything about this that nothing has been done. So, if privacy is not a priority for you then this is a great gym. read more

Please please please go back to normal hours. I pay so much money and never have time to go to the gym because you are only open when most people are at work. I don't want to say Covid is over but you have had plenty of time to respond to Covid cleaning protocols. It's not fair to sign a contract and pay for one service, and then a pandemic hits two years ago and then you act like you can't return to normal operating hours. You are obviously saving a lot of money on labor and that's why you don't return to normal hours. So many people are desperate to use the pool that people are hostile and irritated trying to get a chance to get a lane. Please consider how annoyed your customers are. read more

I am switching gyms for a couple reasons. Firstly, it's not a welcoming space for women. I know the company can't fix men with staring problems but I feel it's worth warning to readers. I've seen it happen and have been at the expense of creeps in here. Not to mention some of these grown men don't know how to share equipment. It's embarrassing. Secondly, when I signed up it was mainly for the pool to do lap swim. I soon realized that would rarely happen as during peak hours the gym has recreational family swim or lessons. The place didn't strike me as a public pool but okay. And forget about them keeping a lane for swimmers during classes-I've been kicked out mid workout before even when the sheet said there would be a lane available for swimmers. Additionally, the schedules online and in person seem to be conflicting so if you think you've got a time figured out to go, you probably don't. As someone who was a lifeguard for 6 years and managed three pools-this place is a mess. read more

This gym does not smell like a gym. It's ultra clean and it seems every time I am there someone is cleaning something. From workout machines, to windows, to floors, the place is being spit shined. Nice spacious weight room. It's rare to have to wait for any equipment. And they just installed all new equipment this week! The pool is nice. It may need more ventilation. Family swim is crowded and the lifeguards are on it. Women's locker room could use some directional signage! There is a 4 way intersection, and all hall ways look alike. When to try to leave you may end up back at the pool! If you are looking for a personal trainer. Look no further. Casse is really perfect. Fun, supportive, and sets up brutal workouts that make you drip sweat. But when you are finished you will feel sore and ready for more! She rocks! read more

I seriously LOVE this gym! I love the trainers, the atmosphere, and the different options available. Seriously, its an amazing gym. Despite my love, I ran into an issue a few months ago. I moved out of the area, and thus would not be using my membership anymore. I told Health Sport this, and I asked that my membership be canceled. They said of course, handed me the forms, I filled out the forms, and that was the end-- Or so I thought. A month later I get charged. This was of course incredibly strange since I canceled my membership, right? Well, I called the front office and was told that since my reason for leaving was for moving, there should not have been any additional fees. The person I talked to said they'd give me a call back with a solution, after reassuring me the charge was unnecessary. About 20-30 minutes later I get a call back and I was told that for some reason my account had been charged despite it being deactivated, but there was nothing they could do since it had already been charged. The entire situation was incredibly frustrating, since I had crossed my T's and dotted my I's, but it still was not enough because someone in accounting made a mistake and I ended up paying for it. This gym is seriously so pleasant but I wouldn't trust them to hold $5 for me while I tied my shoes. If you currently go here, or are thinking of going here, make sure your account is being handled properly, because from experience it is managed by irresponsible people. HealthSPORT Eureka - Gyms Near Me - Eureka, California

I've had surprisingly mixed experiences with this gym. Most everything other reviewers have said (both + and -) is true. HealthSPORT in general seems to be more revenue-focused than expected, filling their schedules and programs with pay-for-premium classes and services. January-April 2019, as a result the free classes were ridiculously full. This is usually the time of year I hit the gym hard. It takes a lot to turn around and walk out of a yoga class after making it to the gym because there's no space for 1 more mat. That happened to me multiple times this year. Guess it was kind of a turning point for our relationship... I notice that the GroupX Eureka schedule is designed to serve what mgt. thinks is THE Eureka demographic: Silver Sneakers folks, swimmers, and those who DIY with weights and cardio machines. There are gaping holes for the fit 35-70 demographic (which does exist in Eureka). Their front door has a TRX sticker on it, but sadly no TRX classes. Spinning is a lost cause, unless you naturally get up at 5am. I drive to Arcata at rush hour for a decent Spin class. :-( The overall vibe is nice but sometimes from female employees, I've noticed a fair amount of quiet snark. Might be an issue with leadership/management reinforcing this behavior. On the plus side, it IS a full-service gym. The sauna is usually hot. It's reasonably clean. There's a wide selection of weights and cardio machines (tho the 2 standalone Spin bikes are often taken). Good yoga classes if they're not full. If you're lucky enough to be in one of 2-3 target demographics, then Eureka HealthSPORT is probably your best option. read more

Overall I really love this gym. They do keep things tidy and clean and are mindful that their equipment is current. When items are broke in the locker room they do fix them. Maybe not as timely as I would like but they do get done. They offer a nice variety of classes and employees are always very nice. Another random gym encounter in my travels. This spot definitely gets the job done for a down and dirty work out. I almost exclusively find gyms that have a pool, and this one wasn't very impressive. Not particularly stoked about a 25 yard pool or the throngs of Aqua Zumba rockers dominating the lap swim time line. They are my worthy nemesis for occupation of the aquatic battle ground that is the pool. All is fair in sea going warfare and with patience I triumphed. The gym portion was decently sized and had a wide array of equipment. Items I was most stoked about: Olympic weight lifting equipment TRX bands Row machine Kettle bells And with thee I am satisfied. They also supplied much of the commonly found equipment found in gyms as well. Plenty of treadmills and elliptical if you are not into running around outside. The bathrooms and locker rooms were clean and well stocked with normal amenities. All in all a good experience. read more

Everything is great about this little gym. I do have to comment that the pool area reeks of chlorine. It seems like they could divert some of the fumes to outside. I also wonder if they could use less chlorine or a chlorine alternative. It is well documented that the chlorine in pools is linked to certain types of cancer, and that the fumes you breathe in the indoor pool are harmful to lungs. Other than the pool fumes, I love the place. Oh, and it was a little annoying when the fundamentalist right wing christians people in the hot tub were speaking in their outdoor voices inside pool area about all the non-believers. The gym is not a place to try to convert! You could hear them clear across the giant pool area. Please be courteous and use your indoor voices. Thank you. read more

I just cancelled my membership after multiple attempts to get staff to address chronic etiquette and cleanliness issues. I have been told FOUR TIMES now that they would do something to more clearly point out the no cell phones or street clothes in the sauna rule. Tonight there were once again 2 women with phones and street shoes in the sauna who refused to leave or put their phones away. 3 teens had their phones IN THE HOT TUB. There was no shampoo or conditioner in the shower. Hair all ok very the walls. Staff basically shrugged. I'm done. read more

The Eureka location has a full array of equipment that seems to be missing at the Arcata Healthsport. Beautiful facility in comparison to the Arcata one, however, the staff is not the most friendly. It seems like people don't often order from their food menu and so staff is taken by surprise when someone does. read more

Overall I enjoy this gym. I live in Eureka part time and use this gym 5 to 6 days a week. I find it clean and friendly. Enough equipment for most people's needs. My regular gym is the YMCA in Boise idaho. Only thing you might work on is not all the people at the front desk are friendly but most are. There is always someone cleaning equipment which I appreciate. I will continue to come here regularly. read more

The level of chlorine gas in the air is sickening; when I walk through the front door, it hits me. I can only tolerate being in there a few minutes before I feel sick. Evidently, the owner does not care about the health damage done by chlorine; check it out on Google. During more popular periods, parking is a nightmare; there is a lot in the block behind the place, which is dirt, with holes in it. Hunting for a space is a stressor. The children who are in control of the front desk evidently think they are quite important and impressive; don't expect acknowledgment; much less friendliness. The owner of this "chain" is such a money grubber. When I lived in L.A., where there are some jaw-dropping sports clubs, NONE of them charged extra to use more than one of the locations...what does that say about her? read more

Very poor management. There is always something broken or dirty. Men's locker room is full of litter on the floor, don't seem to vacuum during the day. sometimes the showers are broken, sometimes a toilet, sometimes a sauna, sometimes the heater in the hot tub. And it takes them forever to fix, weeks and even months for simple repair; and then something else breaks. read more

We dropped in for a quick workout while passing through Eureka. The staff were super nice and helpful. The facility, while not that large, has an excellent assortment of high end equipment and free weights. I only regret that we did not have more time to take advantage of the pool. I have been going to HealthSPORT for 4 plus years and I love it. My favorite classes at this gym are MetCon and ShockWAVE and Restorative Yoga. Working with the different trainers at this gym has been so helpful in my goals to become healthy and stop my pain. The gym has a pool with family hours, a hot tub, a sauna, locker rooms and a snack bar. The snack bar makes wonderful re-energizing drinks. This place Rocks!! I have a great time working out in such a enjoyable and accessible environment.

The very best thing about this gym it the Aqua Conditioning class with Valerie (Val) as the instructor! She is the very best instructor! She does a fantastic job and she cares about everyone in her class! The worst thing about this gym, is how dirty it is... They rarely clean the toilets or mop the shower floors. There are always hair balls and debris. The carpet in the locker room is always dirty. They are out of seat covers and soap, a lot of the time. Britney walks around smacking her gum and doing nothing! She gives plenty of dirty looks and enjoys her bubble gum.... Why cant she pick up some cleaner and a rag and do something! The blonde girl at the desk is also nice and Cassie the Zumba instructor is great!! The facility is nice however and the pool is great. It should be swept out more and cleaned better, but overall its ok. Valerie makes up for the cleanliness, she is the best!
