I ordered a grilled chicken bowl, while one of my classmates ordered a chicken pita. There are a lot of places that cheat you out of a good meat portion, but this is not one of them. There were ample amounts of chicken in my order, sitting on a bed of veggies and rice. The chicken was cooked with a nice blend of spices, and the meal was overall satisfying. The men behind the hot food counter are extremely rude with terrible customer service. The gentleman who used to work behind the hot food counter was great. But in the last few visits, he has not been there and the service is terrible. I usually order seven items or more, when I go there, with no issue. But, as of recent they are missing items and are unsympathetic, unapologetic and callous when sauces and/or items are not in the store. I walked by this place last week, and someone was outside energetically advertising the food, and new to the area, I was intrigued. I took the menu and perused it several times through the week. I finally went in for takeout falafel pita, with added hummus. The man behind the counter also offered lettuce, tomatoes, and white sauce. The woman cashier was not wearing a mask and rudely responded when I told her I didn't have $2 for her to give me change for a $20 on a $6.54 bill. As for the food, the man behind the counter forgot to add hummus although I paid extra for that. The falafel had a very nice taste, although the preparer was heavy handed with the white sauce. When I opted for a pita instead of a roll, I expected the falafel to be IN the pita, not that the pita was to act as a wrap. I will go back to try the smoothies that looked terrific and also the make your own salad, with a wide variety of fresh items available. I don't know about ordering the same pita as I fear the language barrier will get in the way of making clear the options I want. read more

Sorry to interrupt your whole lot of nothing going on, but speaking when spoken to is Step 1 in Customer Service. As I make my way to the back thru a maze of open boxes, I'm curious as to why they aren't more fully stocked. They've been open too long to have such gaps in the Snapple case. I live extremely close to this place. It's one of the best deli options in the area (may take first place). Salad bar, fresh juice/smoothies, sandwiches, self serve coffee/tea options, lots of cold drinks and snacks in the back section. I've had their salads and was never disappointed (at least to date). I'm very specific with my sandwiches too and they always comply. Since I'm not that forgettable (because of my hair) some of the staff already know what type of breakfast sandwich I order (Bacon, egg, & cheese with Avacado) so when they see me they just reconfirm that I want it. The smoothies are delicious too. I usually get Green Mountain, Peanut Butter lover, Valentine Kiss, Bonanza, High Blood Pressure, and a few others. After blending and serving your cup, if there's a little left over, they give you a small sample cup with the remainder for you to drink. Or they offer it up as a taste sample for other clients. It's very rare when I'm disappointed with what I purchase. The only instance I remember was ordering chicken tenders and they were over fried and tasteless. Reason for 4 stars: Despite the fact that I have no complaints on the food side, I have to note that sometimes ordering here takes a bite out of your wallet. I remember I ordered a breakfast sandwich, a smoothie and decided to grab a bag of trail mix and with tax, it came to about $23 with some change. I assumed the trail mix was about $10-12. I was rushing to work so I didn't really stop to find out. Rush hour and lunch are also quite hectic. Sometimes it takes forever to place an order in so I decide not to go. That's not really their fault though. I also have to note the behavior of one of the guys that makes the food/drinks. I decided to talk to him in Spanish to place my order because I saw that he was also hispanic. For me, if I know you can speak Spanish, I'm going to speak to you in Spanish. He flat out refused to talk to me in Spanish and would respond to my requests in English despite "teniendo cara de nopal" (Mom's quote). It was obvious he could understand what I was saying and I thought it was ridiculous. I don't know if it was because he's ashamed of speaking Spanish when the clientele here is largely English speaking. Or maybe he isn't allowed to speak Spanish to clients (which would be even more ridiculous). After some time of noticing his employment here (to present day) I've seen him talk in Spanish to the other Spanish speaking staff and he's lighten up a bit and speaks Spanish to me now. Anyway, I was baffled by his refusal and can only assume it was a personal choice. Something else I was disappointed by was the discontinuation of their small buffet. This was short lived. They made different options for a heavy meal (meat, veggies, rice/pasta) but it was discontinued for whatever reason. I thought it was quite unique since no other deli or place in the area offers such an option. Fun fact - I actually remember when the owner used to run his other deli on a Park and 116. That place unfortunately closed down after the gas explosion back in 2014 (RIP). However this time, the cashier asked me my name and then asked me to identify myself by telling him what I ordered, because he said my name wasn't enough, so I did. Then he said that wasn't enough and he asked for my I.D. and so I showed it to him and then he said that wasn't enough and so I began pulling up my order confirmation and while l'm trying to he accuses me of holding up the line and lets all the customers behind me go first before getting back to me. It didn't help that the customers glared and made dismissive comments at me, as if it was my fault that the line was held up. After feeling ill from their salads I decided to give them another shot with their fruit (mixed berry bowl). I am only noticing now the "sell by" 12/2 (today is 12/4). There was mold on the blueberries and strawberries (pictured). They have careless tendencies, one man smoked a juul pod behind the counter, and for some reason many of the plastic bottles in the refrigerator have a grimey stickiness mixed with dust on them. CLARIFICATION EDIT: The mixed berry bowl was bought this morning (12/4). I wrote this review moments after I consumed some of the bowls moldy contents. I'm so glad this place opened. It's the best place I've found for smoothies in East Harlem. You can get a small, which is a decent size, for $3.99 and they even give you the extra smoothie that doesn't fit in a plastic cup. I love that they cut up the fresh fruit right in front of you, with no added sugars, but it's still very sweet! My current favorite is the Maui Mango. I haven't had any of the food, but you can see them making the deli items and it's all very clean and sanitary.
