I genuinely hate to leave a negative review but maybe this will help resolve the situation because I keep calling and no one is answering and the mailbox is full, I genuinely don't know what to do. I came in for a routine eye exam for glasses on October 11. It was a very good exam and I appreciated Dr Wong's kindness and thoroughness. Long story short, they kept telling me my glasses weren't ready, weeks turned into months. Finally in January I called again and they said they were there. Great! Then I went to the office and... they just cannot find the glasses. That was 2 weeks ago, and they were supposed to call me back when they found them. Now, no one is answering the phone and their voicemail is full. Even though Dr. Wong is a great optometrist and a nice person, it is a very disorganized practice, and now I have to contest with my insurance to have another eye exam with another doctor. Horrible place! Dr Wong book my appointment on a Tuesday I wrote it down on my agenda with all the information about the office but when we arrived at the at the clinic Dr Wong said I didn't have an appointment because it was the next day! He told he was going to see me anyway. Then He started to be rude and complained that people do that a lot messing up the appointment days what cleary,, looks to me that he was the one confused. The clinic looks like a person home with clutter and thinks all over the place. There is no reception or receptionist. He was extremely rude and told me do not play areound when he handle the form to fill I felt so bad that I decided to leave. It's a warm family office where Dr. Wong takes his time to explain everything and goes the extra effort to look at your blood vessels to help you see your vision health into the future. Yes, Dr Wong's wife is an acupuncturist, so it smells like a Chinese herb shop, but that feels like home to me. No other optometrist I've had is this thoughtful to help you plan for your optimal vision health. Parking tip: If you don't find easy street parking, you can park at the SM Public Library and it's only 1-2 blocks away (depending on the entrance), and you don't have to worry about the meter time. read more

Dr. Wong has been doing this a long time. He cares to do a great job because it's his livelihood. From walking in to walking out, total time was about two hours. He's definitely thorough. Got an annual exam plus contact lens prescription and a spare set of contacts for about $180 out of pocket (though he takes insurance). His wife does acupuncture in the same office. Judging by his work ethic, she's probably really good, too. I can see how he'd be great with kids. He's funny and kind of reminds me of a wizard a bit. He looks for everything during the exam because as he says, "You only find it if you're looking for it." Wise words, my friend. He also teaches you about your eye, how to read a prescription and how to take care of your eyes. It's like an eye class! From what I saw of their frames, they seem to be on trend. Dr Wong was a provider of my insurance company and paid for eye exam. I paid for my glasses out of pocket. It took him two months to get me the prescription and then it was wrong. He has failed to correct the problem since I returned the glasses and has not returned any of my calls. When I showed up for an appt to discuss the glasses on Feb 11th, he was a no show. When I had an appt to talk on the phone Feb 14th, he had Lisa call and cancel call. I have requested a refund and he continues ignoring my calls. His receptionist Lisa maintains she has communicated all of my messages. Highly unethical doctor. read more

Overall I really enjoyed my experience with Dr. Wong at Healthy Eyesight Optometry. I really enjoyed how Dr. Wong is both very professional and very funny, telling lots of jokes and making the eye exam an enjoyable experience. It felt both playful as well as informative as Dr. Wong made sure to explain all the necessary details. He takes his time and none of the procedures feel rushed, I felt very comfortable and appreciated his care and consideration. My only complaint is that there were several times that he left the eye exam room, sometimes right in the middle of answering one of my questions, to go help walk-in patients because he didn't have anyone working at the front desk. That got a little annoying. But I would still go back, overall it was a good experience. And it was great that he takes Medi-Cal, which seems to be rare for optometrists in Santa Monica. read more

Best service ever! My eyesight is horrible, I think I've been going to optometrists/ophthalmologist since I was 6. After my 20's I've just been jumping from optometrist to optometrist since none impressed me enough to want to go back...just went with whatever was convenient. The Optometrist is great. He took the time to explain to me what was going on with my eyes and options for ophthalmologist's. The front desk guy was super helpful. I got great glasses at a great price. I usually pay about $300 at lenscrafters (w/ insurance). Front desk guy was honest and gave me what he thought were the best options for me...he was right and I only spent about $150. Dr. Wong and his team are fantastic. I had made an appointment with another doctor and when I showed up, found that it was booked for a week later. I called Healthy Eyesight asking if they might be able to see me as a walk in, since I had already taken the time off work. They said sure! I showed up, Dr. Wong was very kind and funny and took the time to thoroughly explain all the elements of the exam. He knows his stuff clearly, and runs both a computer test and a more traditional exam and compares the results, for increased accuracy. I had a great visit with Dr. Wong. Don't let the unassuming office fool you, as he is one of the finest optometrists I have seen. He provided a thorough eye and contact lens exam, and compared his manual exam to one generated by a computer. He has excellent bedside manner, and his knowledge and years of experience are clearly evident. I am glad I happened upon his website when searching through VSP providers in the area. I highly recommend this place! Dr Wong is a great doctor who really takes time and explains everything very thorough..he checks for everything during the exam and he taught me how to read my prescription! I really loved how he took the time to explain everything I need to know because as he says "they're your eyes" His optician Kenneth is very professional and very helpful. Dr. Wong was both incredibly nice, but funny also as he examined my eyes as well and as throughly as any Optometrist I have paid before 2008 significantly hindered my ability to find employment paying enough to get new glasses myself. I received the FREE VSP (Vision Service Plan) glasses within the time frame Dr. Wong quoted me at the end of the examination. Great experience! Dr. Wong was so thorough, explained everything and even entertained me with funny jokes! He showed me pictures on the computer of my blood vessels, optic nerve, etc and showed me how he could judge the health of my eyes. I had only planned on getting contacts, but decided to get glasses also because of how trendy the selection was. He also gave me a discount on the frames I picked out. The guy who runs the front office was SO accommodating and friendly. He called my insurance company to help me figure out my benefits. When I first walked in I was a bit taken back by the smell in the air, not bad just it also doubles as a acupuncture office. Everyone was so nice, I had my son with me, they were sweet as could be to him and didn't act as though it was a inconvenience he was there. Yes! It IS possible for an optometrist to be both entertaining and professional! Dr. Wong made me feel very comfortable during my first visit (I got my eye exam here today). Not only did he take his time with each procedure; he uses different methods -- his own test, the computer test, and even a machine that shows you the inside of your own eyes! During each procedure, he explained every little detail so naturally, while only doing what was necessary. It's rare to feel comfortable at an office, but he was able to make it worthwhile and fun! Dr. Wong even managed to crack a few jokes in between each transition, and he was patient with my questions. Did I mention that he was super informative as well? This is the first review I have written for any business ever. Dr. Wong and his staff are such gems that felt it worth it. Dr. Wong is obviously very skilled and committed to his work. I received a very thorough exam and explanation of all he was doing complete with the awesome photographs and amazing clinical lesson on eyes as previous reviewers have mentioned. While I may have received some more clinical facts and professional advice because I am heading to medical school soon, my guess is Dr. Wong is that thorough and attentive with every patient. Furthermore, he seems to really enjoy serving a broad range of patients from various backgrounds. When we discussed our mutual commitment to working with underserved populations, he very sweetly said he took Medi-Cal even when his colleagues didn't because "Its like kickball; I'm really excited anytime anyone wants me on their team, so I am going to do the best job possible for the team regardless." Just lovely, so sweet and funny, while also so skilled. When I was done with Dr. Wong his assistant was ready to help me find some glasses. He had all of the insurance and eyeglass logistics, fashion, aesthetic and practical bases wonderfully covered. Then when I was being indecisive, he was super accommodating and flexible about having me mull it over. I'll definitely come back (although I don't need glasses much now) and I'll send my regular glasses wearing friends and family members here. read more
