I saw a poor review of the front office staff a few years back and moved on to another practice. I had a great experience there for a few years but he retired and sold his business and it was not the same. Tried this place. Dr. Levy is personable and focused but his staff are horribly inept. The office is operated like something stuck in a time warp. The close the office for lunch and you will arrive to see the staff eating at their desks with the door locked. You need coverage, speed and efficiency. They lack that in all areas of operation. The lady who answers the phone is incredibly rude, almost goes out of her way to be difficult. I call any place and you simply provide your last name or phone number and they have your information up. Here, not the case. No follow through. They call the wrong number than state they called your number and as you know, your cell has a listing of all calls, never received, missed or had a call from them go directly to vm. So she blatantly lied. Why? I have never had such a poor experience with an optometrists front office. Dr. Levy is cordial and seemed thorough but to a point of weeks now. When you go in to get an exam, order contacts it should be a 7 to14 day turnaround worse case scenario. It was also odd, when Dr. Levy took you into the exam room, he left the door open, so you hear conversations and etc from other patients when you are suppose to focus on your eye tests. I am confident anyone reading this would agree, proper operational procedure is to close the door, for privacy and focus. No pun intended. They ask for you to wash your hands when you walk in. Made no sense, as they handed you a pen I noticed the lady behind the counter had touched right after touching everything else, including her lunch she had just finished. It is all for ops. This place is stuck in the past. I'm writing this to save you from enduring what I have thus far. To make matters worse, what they charged for a simple exam was twice what I have paid in the past. When Dr. Levy said "we have lots of work to do" it struck me as it was all about milking the insurance company for the most amount of visits possible. When I was there, an elderly patient came in to ask for his glasses to be adjusted, she had him sit and wait and he was still sitting and waiting 30 minutes later. Any other place I have been to, they have coverage and a can do attitude. They quite literally take the frames and adjust them and hand them back and ask "How's that?" With a smile. This place is not that. When I called weeks later the lady said she could not find me in the system. This is after they charged me for an exam weeks prior. I spelled out my name with eat letter representing a word to assist her, still she could not find it. Her attitude was horrible! I heard her say to patient who walked in and asked how her lunch was she responded "not long enough" and made no eye contact with him. Save yourself, in today's age with so much modern technological operational practices that can make a visit to the doc as seamless and pleasant as possible, if would be in your very best interest to do so! read more

Does a great job. Unfortunately I have broken every pair of frames I have bought within 6 months. I wanted to buy some cheaper glasses online because I can't afford 190 every 6 months. I thought I would go online luckily they told me . You Can not just order prescription online because the pd changes with each frame . So they have to measure your pd with each frame. So Dr Levy saved me from the online scam and wasting a lot of more money. read more

I decided to write a review to show my deep gratitude for the caring and quality service I conistently receive from Dr. Douglas Levy and his assistant Imelda. I actually look forward to my annual check up and new set of shades or specs. First, it's a great location with convenient underground, secure parking with a free validation. The building is modern with secuity (and an AT&T store.) The exam is efficient and compreshensive. The frame selection is vast, from those my insurance covers at 100% (including some Raybans!) to the latest super chic options. Since my presrciption has stayed steady for a couple of years, and I have coverage through both my wife's and my insurance, with Dr. Levy's help and expert navigation of insurance benefits, for a mere total cost of a $40 deductible over the last two years, I have had 2 exams and now four pairs of specs: 1) a pair of progressives so I can see a distance and look down to read 2) prescription Raybans which look cool and are great for daytime driving 3) blue screen presciption for my time in front of computer screens, and 4) reading glasses at my exact prescription... 1000x better than the standard over the counter reading glasses I was using. On top of all that, Dr. Levy is about as cool an eye doctor as you'll ever find. read more

I have been going to Dr. Levy for more years than I can remember. I've had eye issues since I was a young child so going to any kind of eye care specialist always makes me nervous and uncomfortable and brings back bad memories. Dr. Levy has always been so kind and gentle - I feel immensely comfortable with him. He's also extremely knowledgeable and takes his time explaining everything in detail. He never makes you feel rushed - you are the most important person when he's with you - it's a wonderful feeling. This past week he really went above and beyond and I'm so grateful. I walked into the office on a Friday with no appointment and hoped he could take a quick look at something scary on my eyelid and all the redness in my eye. He not only agreed to see me, he took so much time explaining the issue I had, treated it gently and expertly and gave me a way to contact him over the weekend if the issue seemed worse. Thankfully, his treatment worked and I was so much more comfortable. Even better, he called me on Monday to see how my eye was doing and offered to check it out again any time if I felt it wasn't improving and needed further treatment. I'm so grateful for his time, expertise, kindness and follow up. Can't imagine going to anyone else but him - he's the best!! read more

Dr Levy has been my optometrist for many years and I admire his knowledge and his good customer service. His office is very clean and he has a wide selection of sunglasses and prescription glasses. He has saved my right eye twice within a 4 year period. The first time was during the fires in the Brentwood , West LA area which caused smoke to linger in the Santa Monica area. I developed an irritation to my right eye which it became red with some slight pain. Dr Levy took me in immediately and he discovered a piece of burnt fire ash was lodged underneath my eye lid. After he removed the piece of ash , my eye healed up quickly. The second time was I woke up with an irritation to the same eye. I looked in the mirror and I couldn't locate anything. The irrational was slight so I used visine thinking this would help. Shortly after I made an appointment with Dr Levy and again he saw me immediately. He discovered I had an ingrown eyelash. He removed the the irrigation and redness went away. I highly recommend Dr Levy because of his knowledge, his people skills, and his reasonable prices on glasses. read more

I tried to make an appointment with this practice because I saw such great reviews. Unfortunately my very first interactions have been less than great, and they have all been interactions with the receptionist. She was rude - snappy and overall, just unfriendly. I called to ask about an appointment - she said she'll look up my vision insurance. I told her, thanks I'll just pull up my information up - and then interrupted me and said that there's no need to do that she can just look me up on her system. So I said ok! Then she asks me for my ID number which is the information I was trying to pull up anyways. It was weird, but she got really defensive about it when I told her that was the information I needed to pull up. Then she said, she'll call me back later that day after she checks that they accept it. Next day I gave them a call back to follow up after not hearing back and she again, got defensive and insisted she called and left a message. Which isn't true, because I had no missed calls from the practice nor any voicemails, and my voicemail isnt full. When I let her know that, her tone of voice became more aggressive. She then told me how much the copay would be if I went through with scheduling an appointment, with this aggressive snappy tone. She said it would be $49 (when i know a copay for an exam is just $10 with my insurance) so when I questioned her on it, she continued to be unfriendly and talked to me condescendingly. Jeez lady. I just didnt hear you correctly. I hope you're not this mean to everyone who is hard of hearing. Now, im feeling like this practice doesn't deserve my money after being treated with such abrasiveness at the first interactions, so I did not go through with the appointment. I'm sure the doctor is just fine! But hopefully the manager here can train their receptionist on how they should be interacting with customers and how to make an impression. read more

After cataract surgery I no longer needed prescription sunglasses. I dropped in on a random optometrist to ask if he could replace the prescription lenses with non-prescription lenses. Dr. Levy did the whole job in about 15 minutes. Now, two years later, I wanted to change the lenses again because they were scratched. I went to several optometrists closer to home who wanted significantly more money to change the lenses. They were expensive designer sunglasses so maybe that affected their price; I don't know. Luckily I remembered Dr. Levy and returned. He put in the new lenses right away and charged only $50 -- a couple hundred dollars less than the other places. And all done with a helpful friendly attitude. I don't usually leave reviews but good service deserves attention. Highly recommend Dr. Levy. read more

Last visit, I said I wasn't interested in the Premium Contact Lens Fit and Follow-up service and then discovered that Dr. Levy had charged me (and EyeMed) for this service anyway. In addition, he underestimated the amount the lenses for my eyeglasses would be by over $150 without much of an explanation. I had been a client for over a decade but got to feeling hustled by the doctor and his front desk staff at every appointment, so I switched to another office. read more

The best optometrist in California. I have been going to doug for 20 years now. He is the most fluid and detail oriented eye doctor in Los Angeles and arguably California. He goes through ever exam possible, clear and accurate with his explanations of what he is doing and why and will never cease to amaze me with his customer service. I was looking for a new Dr. in the area that was in my insurance network so I thought I'd give him a try. I was able to get in right away. Everyone was wearing masks and they had me wash my hands when I got there. I was the only patient there. He was very professional and friendly. He told me what date my glasses would arrive and they arrived right on time. I went in to have them fitted and they were perfect! His receptionist was wonderful and neither tried to up sell anything. Just advised my options. I would absolutely recommend him and I'll be going back to him again the next time I need glasses. read more

Dr. Levy is a highly intelligent and caring optometrist. Every time I go there, I get great professional service and learn something about eye care, as Dr. Levy engenders questions and happily shares what he knows. Not only is Dr. Levy an intellectually engaging professional, but his front desk staff are also very friendly and helpful, including helping me pick out frames that found a lot of approval afterwards from my friends and acquaintances. Dr. Levy's prices are also fair - he isn't there to make a fast buck, he is there to build long-term, constructive relationships with his patients. Also worth noting, this is a second generation business - I started with Dr. Levy's father over twenty-five years ago and then moved to the son - the current Dr. Levy - over time as his father retired. I come in from out of state and use Dr Levy for my eyes and glasses. He has excellent equipment, is very thorough, must be an ex-New Yorker because everything is done in a New York minute! (I'm kidding, of course) while still maintaining thoroughness and attention to your questions. After examination, he suggested I needed to see an eye surgeon. Specifically, he recommended Dr Arthur Benjamin of West Hollywood. Dr Benjamin did my surgery, he conferred with Dr Levy throughout and Dr Levy asked to see me after the surgery at no charge, to inspect Dr Benjamin's work. Seems above and beyond in today's age and is the sign to me of real caring and professionalism. I heartily recommend Dr Levy---period. read more

I fully agree with all of the other 5 star reviews - Dr. Levy is a consummate professional. His equipment is top of the line and his exams are always thorough. Along the way, he will make sure that he's answering any questions you might have. He has recently (at least for me) acquired new equipment that can help detect detached retinas, brain tumors and other serious conditions well in advance. I have never had any difficulties with my insurance, in fact, I've never even had my insurance card - his staff has been able to look up all of my benefits based on information in my patient file. Best of all, I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. I've been going here for three years and will continue to do so. read more

I tired out a few optometrists around Santa Monica before working with Dr. Levy. Nothing but good things to say - Dr. Levy is quick and efficient, but covers all the bases. The office and equipment is kept in immaculate condition. I can't comment on eye glass frame selection, as I wear contacts, but it looks like he has a huge selection. Dr. Levy really knows his stuff when it comes to contacts. I went as far as to continue to see Dr. Levy when my vision insurance changed and he was no longer available. I paid out of pocket ... I've needed glasses since I was in 4th grade and have had a ton of different eye doctors. Per usual, my vision has only gotten worse as I've gotten only older, and I've needed better and more specialized services, and can easily say that Dr. Levy is the best. He was recommended offhand by a friend when I lived and worked in Santa Monica, and I still make the trek even though I've since moved to Hollywood. Basically, Dr. Levy will hook you up: he keeps up with all new research and technology in the field, has some of the most advanced machines you'd find at any optometrist office (much less a small private location), and will provide amazing service at awesome rates. In my humble opinion, anyone you're paying less will give you less personal attention with a sliver of Dr. Levy's knowledge. Last summer he saw me 4 times for contact adjustments and didn't charge me a thing for each follow up visit. Do I seem a little over enthused? Heck Yeah- my eyes are weak as hell and I take their care seriously. Since seeing Dr Levy I have been hooked up with the best, at prices I can afford even after losing my last job's sweet vision coverage. I've been going to Dr. Levy for a couple years and he is fantastic. Yes, he's efficient, friendly, on time, has a nice office space, lots of frames, etc. But what I care about most now at age 50 is someone who can find a solution to my changing vision and allow me to see clearly - preferably eliminating the need for reading glasses or bi-focals. I had tried "mono-vision" (where one lens is adjusted for distance and the other for reading) with another optometrist with horrible results. Dr. Levy suggested we give it another try, and said if it didn't work he would refund the cost of the lenses and go to plan B. Well, we never needed plan B. He was meticulous in performing the exam and adjusting the prescription until it was perfect. I've been wearing lenses for 30+ years and have been to many optometrists over the years, and can honestly say that Dr. Levy is the BEST! read more

My eye exam with Dr. Levy was completely thorough. He's great with people, and clearly eyes too, and really took the time to answer my questions. Next came my selection of reading glasses. The ladies were so patient with me when I couldn't make up my mind, offering additional suggestions and great advice. If you're new in town or looking for a new optometrist, I recommend Dr. Levy. Dr. Levy has been my eye doctor for many years, but I moved out of L.A., but after three years; I moved back to Southern California, to Orange County, and went to another optometrist because of my insurance. It was a huge mistake. The assistant at that practice placed five drops to dilate the pupils. After I left, I called Dr. Levy because something didn't seem right in one of my eyes. He advised me and told me to come in if it didn't get any better the following day. Even though I didn't have insurance, he examed my eye and then gave me some advice on what to do. He listens, and he communicates very well. There is no need for better customer service because it's all there; he talks with you, not at you. He'll ask you questions to ensure you know what he's saying. He's a solid excellent optometrist. I now drive for over an hour for my vision issues. read more

Today was my first visit to Dr. Levy. I'm a retired person and postponed getting proper eyeglasses for a long time. I'd been relying on drugstore readers for years, but, well, the time comes when the time comes. Eye health is just as important as any other well-being issue. Dr. Levy is so personable, thorough, caring and exacting. I feel he went over and beyond, but I get the idea this the level of professionalism he extends to all his patients. I got bifocals and also sunglasses with bifocal lens and the costs didn't break the bank. My medicare covered a lot, but I also pitched in for a couple of extras. Dr. Levy didn't overcharge me and helped me save by offering me different options with frames. His office staff is also worthy of high commendation. The friendliness of the two ladies made me feel as though I was having coffee with my two sisters! I'm not kidding. My review is not an exaggeration. My boyfriend has been going here for so long he used to be a patient of his father. Always a great experience, until recently an order of contacts was incorrect. His front desk staff said they wouldn't refund him, saying it was the correct order, even though these were clear, and he's ordered a light blue tint for years. He would've never ordered the clear, because he can't see them to put them on. We contacted Dr. Levy directly. He was very apologetic and on top of that ordered the correct lenses at no charge. Dr Levi is an outstanding optometrist. He is competent, efficient, friendly, and caring. On top of that, his rate is very reasonable and he offers a nice assortment of affordable frames. Dr. Levy has been my optomitrist for over twenty years. I strongly recommend him. He even just saved me a ton of money when I lost my new sunglasses. He pointed out that often ones VISA card will provide insurance for lost items purchased recently. I checked with my VISA card company (B of A) and, sure enough, they will cover the cost of replacing my lost glasses. I couldn't believe it! Dr. Levy thought to remind me of that when he did a recent follow up call to me simply to check on how I was doing with my new eyewear. Dr. Levy did a great eye exam but the NIGHTMARE began...when I returned to pick up simple glasses. The frames on the glasses were the wrong ones. I told his so called reception woman that the frames were not the right ones. Their answer was no you cannot return them...WHAT!!! In any eye place... if you are not happy or especially if they were the WRONG ones...wouldn't you think common sense return them for the correct frames...they gave me such a hard time...that they could only do this ONCE to change frames which was not my fault.. Lost a customer...I will never go back to this place.... :( read more

I called to make an appointment. Next day I received a phone call with questions: "Do you have an insurance ? And which one?!" I said I do, and want to see doctor, ASAP . I came in for my appointment. Two receptionists started interrogation again. The front desk person told me that I do not have an appointment which was lie. Then the front desk person said you do not have an insurance which wrong and rude. After I show them my insurance card they said it is not insurance which was the third ignorance. Then they told me that I have a co-payment $39, which was simple lie. Then they told me to wait. While waiting, these receptionists spoke foreign language and did not care about patients near them. I felt very uncomfortable and left the office without actual visit to the doctor, I had to find someone else where I did not have any of these above issues! read more

I have been going to Dr. Levy for many, many years. However, after my last fiasco with him I said no more. I had to go back for my glasses seven (7) times because he could never get the prescription correct (he finally admitted that he was at fault and not the lab). Dr. Levy refuses to make appointments to have problems fixed once you pick up your glasses (hence I had to go back so often because his front staff would turn me away if he was "too busy" even though they told me to come in). Well, I just discovered why the glasses have been bothering me for these past months. Dr. Levy marked the incorrect center of the lens (by 1/4" which is a lot) thus giving me headaches. He used to be so good but now he is just resting on his laurels and sullying the good name of his father. AVOID this "Dr."! read more
