She's got great bedside manner; she never rushes us (today we…read morehad a checkup and she held the baby for me while I changed my two year olds diaper and continued chatting about how to get the kids to sleep better--not at all rushing us out of the room). She really takes the time to make sure I feel confident taking care of my kids, and she's really, really good with them: patient, calming, and sweet. My two year old loves her. I think she's also a really top-notch diagnostician. My older daughter and I were really sick last year, and I'd been to my GP a few times for it, and they couldn't figure out what it was, but Dr. Welman knew what it was right away (and my doctor has been voted in the "top 100 in northern VA"...so, he's no slouch). I was a bit worried about finding a pediatrician that would be on the same page as me "philosophy" wise. Dr. Welman seems like she understands and takes into account the national recommendations for pediatric care (like for vaccines, etc.) but is also very practical and works with you to get the best care for your kids--like, I sheepishly admitted that I've been sleeping with the baby in my bed, even though the american academy of pediatrics says this is a heinous crime, and Dr. Welman was willing to talk it through with me and talk about how we can all sleep safely, without being narrowminded or judgmental. The Casey clinic is also an OB practice so while you're sitting in the waiting room, you're mostly around healthy people rather than sitting in a room full of people that are contagious with who-knows-what. I'm a bit of a germophobe and I don't freak out (too much) in the clinic's waiting room. It's not super kid-friendly (like, no toy areas, etc.) so you should probably plan to bring something to amuse your kids while you wait for your appointment, but honestly I'd rather do that than have a big area full of toys that sick kids go cough on. We've had to wait a while for some of our appointments, but we're usually running late so I'm guessing they take another patient while they're waiting for us. Today we were on time and they saw us pretty quickly.

It really is as good of a primary health practice as you can get without having your own private…read moredoctor. Both of our daughters have been patients here from birth. They have a primary care physician assigned - Dr. Sexter - but they have at some point or another been seen by all of their physicians. Every one of them are great: kind, compassionate, attentive, and responsive. You will feel heard and they will address your concerns. Their knowledge and expertise is extraordinary. The office - staff and doctors - are also super responsive. If you have a pressing question, someone will get back to you that day. If it's an after hours emergency, there is always a doctor on call and they will respond within 30 minutes. The doctors hold daily office hours but it can be tricky to get a hold of them if they're experiencing a volume of calls. An extra perk I like is that they keep appointments available daily for those common but unplanned for illnesses, and they have a separate waiting room for sick vs not sick. It just runs so well you wonder why more doctors' offices don't do the same. Now of course, the one downside is they are out of network. It's not cheap. I think it's worth it if you can, but financially it can hurt if your kids have a lot of illnesses or shots in a limited period of time. They do at least submit the insurance forms for you, and that helps some. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice and all the doctors in it, and have a deep appreciation for how Dr. Sexter and Nurse Jennifer have taken care of our girls.

She has been my 2 year olds doctor for the past 2 years and we are continually impressed. The office is fantastic , clean , inviting , separate infant space. The front desk staff always try to accommodate you same day and we've never had an issue getting an appointment. Dr Long is caring , warm , and so knowledgeable. He took great care of my daughter in her first two years of life. She always finds something entertaining in the waiting area, whether it was the TV or the giant fish tank. By the time our second daughter was born, we had moved to a new neighborhood so we switched to a practice that was closer to home. Otherwise, it was a 20-minute drive to Seven Corners. If you live in or near Seven Corners, I highly recommend Dr. Nguyen!

My 2 year old is highly afraid of Shots AND doctors, but Dr. Lamson was able to entertain the little guy enough where he allowed him to pull his pant leg up so that he could administer the vaccine on his thigh, he cried a bit, but after that, he wanted Dr. Lamson to play with him. My 4 year old, on the other hand, loved how Dr. Lamson installed a video game system in the waiting lobby and he also enjoyed the decorations that were put up in the patient room. He asked me if he could come here for his future wellness visits and we just might schedule both of their wellness visits here and just leave emergency and sick visits for our local pediatrics!

Our son was failure to thrive, had an NG tube placed around three months, and a G tube at six months. While the tubes stabilized his weight, there was never a plan to get him off the tube, his oral eating stopped completely, and an oral aversion developed over the course of working with our health plan's feeding team. Our medical team told us that he would likely not be free from the tube until he was two or three years old. We found Thrive shortly after the G tube placement. For several months, Heidi patiently worked with us while we navigated insurance coverages and advocated for a different approach with our medical team. We wound up scheduling a remote wean with Thrive and worked with Jamie for feeding therapy. Both Jamie and Heidi have been incredibly patient, encouraging, generous with their time, and knowledgable about kids like our son. Over the months we were working with our medical team to set up the wean, our son had been willing to occasionally try table foods, but he went from being fully tube dependent to getting 100% of his calories by mouth in just 15 days. Our medical team said it was impossible, but we knew that if we just got out of his way and helped him rebuild his natural instincts to feel hunger and satisfy it with food, he would figure it out. But it still feels like a miracle it happened so fast! I'm shocked that there aren't more people out there practicing this kind of practical feeding therapy for tube-dependent kids. I'm sure that in 10 years, a model like this will be in every health system in the country. But for now, if you've got a tube-dependent kid and you know in your gut that he can eat -- give Thrive a call.

On top of the feeding issue, my son had many medical issues related to the syndrome he was born with. It was one of the toughest times in my life. I trusted Spectrum Pediatrics. But one of the owners lacked awareness, understanding and sympathy. She made up her mind that I was a bad mom and treated me as such. It was such a vulnerable time in my life. She judged and blamed me at a moment when I already felt so guilty that as a mom, I couldn't help my child. As it turned out, only months later "treatment" at SP, my son suffered bowel obstruction, and then doctors suddenly realized why my son wasn't eating. It turned out that he also had a similar issue with the bladder. As soon as my son was treated for constipation of the bladder and bowel, the condition started to resolve. I have never felt more miserable working with anyone/people in my life and deeply regret having taken my child to Spectrum Pediatrics.

However, her care is worth it to me. She's always thorough with any issues and makes sure to order all and any bloodwork or tests needed to assure us that things are ok. That matters to me. We've had three other pediatricians. She's been the most thorough and takes however much time needed with each patient which is likely why she's always backed up.

Nobody wants to make their child suffer by getting pricked multiple times for the same thing. Also due to the delay my son is still not in daycare and it's messing with my work schedule. Today not only did they fail to send a nurse for our…read morescheduled time, but I received no calls informing me - in spite of my having left several messages with their answering service. In general, I have found it difficult to communicate with the coordinator as there is no email and there is no direct line telephone number. Today was the last straw. The LPN that they sent last week was fine.
