Do not take your child here. They have way too many patients, so it's very difficult to get an appointment. When you can get an appointment, it's unlikely you'll see the same doctor you saw the last time. Currently they have no availability for 2.5 months for an appointment, but also they don't schedule more than 3 months out. So if you go in for your 12 month, they won't let you schedule your 15 month so you have to wait a couple weeks and when you call they are all booked up. My child has seen his designated physician only a couple times and she's basically never available. So it's just a rotation of physicians. It's all fine when he's an infant young toddler but you just don't get the care and feeling you want for a young child. There's no relationship. That's just for planned visits. If your child is actually sick, and you need to see someone in short order, forget about it. read more

We cannot recommend going here. The good: + minimal wait time + Our doctor was lovely. She was kind, gentle, and great to speak with. The bad: - Front office staff person was rude when we made a paperwork error on our first visit. Not great, but not a big deal. - BOTH nurses/medical assistants who handled our 1 year old son were cold, unfriendly, and seemed completely uninterested in his fear or discomfort. They spoke to us curtly, via orders. They never even tried speaking to him. - The nurse/tech who took our son's weight got it completely wrong and therefore the weight reported to the doctor was off so much that it threw his percentile score off by more than 20%. We saw the correct number on the scale and she wrote it down incorrectly. This changed the nature of the whole conversation we had with our doctor. This kind of error is dangerous. - The waiting area and rooms are dingy and wholly uninviting. If you can go elsewhere, go. read more

The individual providers can be quite good. But what's that worth if you never get to them? Getting an appointment is a disaster. A regular check-up is impossible to schedule, and navigating their Byzantine rules about when you can call to get one is impossible. (My most recent time trying to get an annual visit for my kid, the receptionist told me that their calendar at both Foggy Bottom and Capitol Hill was completely full for the next two months, and that she *did not know* when the next month after that would open up for appointments. "Probably sometime later this week." So should I just call daily on the off-chance that it's the day that they opened their books?) A sick visit? Forget about it. They supposedly keep a number of slots open every day for same-day sick visits. Last time I tried that, I called near the end of a day and the receptionist told me that the next day had a few same-day appointments available and open, but that I'd need to call the next day at 7am to get one. So I call the next morning right when the lines open, and the receptionist told me that I was indeed the first caller of the day, but that the formerly-open visits were no longer available, because someone else had broken the rules and filled them prior to the same-day window. She actually pleaded with me to please complain about the issue to CP&A management, because "this keeps happening and I'm sick of it, but they don't listen to me." Finally, they've switched to about three different patient portals in the last five years, each worse than the last. Can you use the portal to make an appointment? Nope. Does the "health record" in your portal accurately list your child's vaccinations? Nope. It just has some vital signs from a random visit two years ago and lists a physician who we've never seen. I simply do not understand how this practice, whose physicians are actually really kind and caring, can be so bad. read more

I am ONLY giving this place two stars because it's close to my house and the doctors are competent. For every other reason under the sun, avoid this place at all costs. The practice is an absolute factory that frankly has accepted too many patients over the years. Scheduling an appointment is a nightmare, and if you're not on hold the moment their calendar opens for a given time frame, you will have to wait weeks/months to get in. I called almost 2 months before my son turned 9 months-old and the only appointment available at ANY of the Children's campuses was not until he was 10 1/2 months-old. Do not even try to get in on short notice should your child come down with pink eye, ear infection or other common ailments. When my daughter had pink eye recently, we called in to see if we could get some eye drops for her. I was told that I could bring her in at 7:00 am the next day and hope somebody cancels while I wait. This is entirely unhelpful when you have a child miserable with pink eye. Lastly, at virtually every single appointment, the nurse will see you for a weigh in almost immediately. But don't get too excited here, after that, you'll be lucky if you're not there for 30 minutes holding a naked screaming child in an empty room waiting for an overworked physician to make your appointment. Appointment times here are simply suggestions and are not followed. I am done with this practice for both of my kids and will drive them wherever necessary from now on. The convenience factor itself is no longer sufficient, and in my recommendation, it shouldn't be for anyone else. read more

We are 33 weeks pregnant. If you research for pediatricians, you will find that the Capitol Hill office seems to have good ones. I called to asked about the practice. I was put on hold five times and bounced around. The call ended, and I was more confused than helped. Then I read the reviews here. Sometime ago, we had a terrible experience with a fertility clinic; for the most part, from the nursing and admin staff. We lost a year until we moved (and were successful at the first try in the one). I say to you, pass. Whether doctors are good is irrelevant if the support staff are not. read more

My daughter is 10 months old and we have had nothing but great service from this office. If you show up on time, and aren't looking to make best friends, and use the patient portal to ask questions and book appointments you are good to go. We had some weight issues after birth and the doctors have answered all our questions, make good recommendations, and are gentle and caring. The front desk staff are fine if you are respectful and patient with them. I think everyone in the office is direct and some people may be turned off by that, but for me its great. Just looking for good care and reasonable people. We have seen Dr. Jaber and Rhinesmith, they are great. We also went to the Foggy Bottom office once since it is a bit bigger and easier to get last minute appointments. They are both great! read more

I would give this office negative stars if I could. It is nearly impossible to make an appointment if your child is sick, let alone get ahold of someone for minor issues or triage. The doctors are fine, but at what cost? Their hours are inconvenient (the office even closes for an hour for lunch every day where no one answers the phones and you can't even leave a voicemail), wait times are long, and much of the staff is rude. Even with two locations, good luck getting in. Call them right away in the morning when they open to try to get a same-day appointment? If they even answer, the likelihood is they have no availability and will tell you to call at the same time the next day to try again (why you have to call back and can't book the next-day appointment right then and there is beyond me). Leave a message with the CNPA operator when the offices don't answer? You'll never get a call back. Desperately stay on hold for an hour and a half to try to speak to a human? Don't worry, they'll disconnect you before you reach someone. No one's answering the phone so you try the patient portal? You probably won't get a response. Need to book your child's next wellness appointment? Your 12-month visit just became a 14-month visit because you simply can't get in. And good luck trying to book an appointment through the patient portal because no one ever answers the phone...it's like they completely ignore online requests. My son had to go to the ER and CNPA was completely unresponsive for a follow-up appointment. My husband and I both called multiple times and got no response. The overrun emergency room did a better job following up to give us advice and send a prescription to our pharmacy after we told them our doctor was unresponsive. This place is a joke and they clearly realize many parents have no choice but to go here simply for the convenience and location, so they are certainly not worried about the patient experience. The only silver lining is that we are leaving the area and no longer have to settle for this subpar, horrific practice. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Great doctors but the staff and administration is severely unreliable. And appointment wait times is terrible. Even with their new portal it's useless to try and schedule an appointment through their scheduler tab. I emailed twice without response, so finally made the dreaded 20 min (mostly on hold) call to to schedule an appointment. And since then someone finally responded through the portal and scheduled me a duplicate appointment. I messaged back to let them know I already have one set up. Unsurprisingly, no response. Now I'm receiving confirmation texts and emails for the duplicate appointment. I tried to cancel through the portal but the function is not available, so I left them a note. It's just ridiculous. Don't have an online portal if you can't figure out how to respond. Beyond the horrible scheduling operation is their actual appointment staff and wait times. All of the the medical assistants i have encountered have been cold and provide little to no direction at each of my appointments. You are working with babies and kids, is it that unreasonable to not be curt to patients? And the last two times I had to wait over 35 mins between weighing baby and the actual exam. You cannot expect a baby to wait in a cold exam room in her diaper for the doctor. It's unkind and just unreasonable, especially when you consider the fact that you have no food or drink signs posted everywhere. Also the rooms are dirty. The whole appointment from seeing the MA, exam and vaccine was an hr and 15 minutes. read more

Front office staff couldn't care less about you, nurses can be hit or miss (one of the nurses started raising her voice to tell my child to calm down when she did not want to be weighed while the other time the nurse was sweet and made my daughter feel at ease) and wait times can be excessive but the Drs we have seen have been incredible. Both Dr. Hamburger and Dr. Hedman were kind, patient, and knowledgeable. Their nurse triage advice is great too. Because of long medical history, I'm not changing pediatricians as long as we live in DC but the great doctors alone would not make this place worth it for me otherwise. Please note, this practice does not require their patients to follow immunization practices (boo!) and charges a fee for annual health forms that every child requires for school (double boo!). Maybe that's just how pediatrician practices get to operate in DC and we just have to accept that as status quo but man, I really wish we wouldn't. read more

Wonderful pediatrician's office! We've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen, all the nursing staff is lovely, and our doctor (Dr. Rhinesmith) is amazing! She's kind and warm and extremely knowledgeable. Would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a pediatrician. If she left this practice we would follow her anywhere! read more

If you like to wait for a long time to be called with your crying overtired baby come here. The staff could care less too when you ask for an update. What a joke.. have extremely low expectations. The doctor then has the nerve to lecture us for 10 minutes (more wasted time) for getting upset in the lobby. He said that they tey to not rush patients and give them time but in the end we were rushed!!! We had to rush out the door because our baby was overtired and screaming which is not his personality at all. One of the nurse assistants is so nice she remembers my son by name every time he comes and she is so sweet. Being a new mom can be a little nerve wracking. So when it comes to finding a pediatrician you want to make sure you find a good one. My baby came into the world via unplanned c-section and a little under weight so we had to find a pediatrician office right away. I came across Children's Pediatrics because they are in my neighborhood. The nurse practitioner Beth and she is wonderful! She always gives us good explanations to our questions and is very gentle with our son! She always lets us know the things we should do such as getting a vitamin D supplement for son since he is primarily breastfed. Receptionists are adequate. Wait times are generally not long and the best part of it is that we can also see our NP at their downtown location on Saturdays. read more

I was on hold for 77 minutes (not a typo) waiting to set up our first appointment before someone answered. Will update if we ever see a physician, but not an auspicious start. When I first called, the automated hold message said there were 2 people ahead of me, so I can't imagine how long one has to wait when there is a higher call volume. read more

I am super picky when it comes to the care my son receives and I am so thankful to have found an office that cares about the health and wellbeing of the patients. Dr. Smith-Khuri is the best! she is so attentive and she answers every question knowledgeably. I have not had a problem scheduling an appointment. Since Dr. Smith-Khuri is so popular, I may have to schedule a bit out to see her for routine appointments. The nurse line is helpful and promptly returns calls. The office is clean and I haven't experienced it being crowded. They get us in and out! I hope I can stay with Dr. Smith-Khuri until he ages out. read more
