Healthy spirits may be the finest liquor store in Northern California... They are a small network of stores, and each store has a little bit different selection. They communicate well with each other and will send you to the appropriate location if need be. I use the one in Bernal Heights, which is phenomenal. The staff is extremely pleasant, and knowledgeable and pretty much every field of spirit. FYI, I don't really do wine anymore, so I can't offer any insight into that part of their business. Carly (sp?) is the manager and extremely knowledgeable. Parking can be an issue, but compared to the rest of San Francisco, it's pretty good! The cans, all the cans, all the art on the cans. It's amazing! Everything from graffiti to finely tuned paintings on the side of your beer!! I really like coming here purely for the fun cans. Haven't tried any spirits yet. The employees seem super knowledgeable from what I can gather. I don't often have questions for them. Convenient bike locking area just outside the door to enter/exit. Within sight while you're at the register. Buuuuuut the caveat is insane prices. When I bought 8 ciders & 4 ipas. Guess the total? $76 or so. Not a bargain by any means. If you happen to be walking by, and don't want to spend more than $17 on drinks, it's worth a look inside at the very least. read more

Healthy Spirits is a great spot to discover unique craft beer, cider, wine and much more. I stop by occasionally while walking through the neighborhood and stare at the cases until I find something I just have to try. I like the selection of unique items they have, but also appreciate the fact that they have a full range of prices from inexpensive to pricier and rare bottles. I'd have to give them 5 stars for selection, yet I'm giving 3 stars for their selection. Their selection is awesome, noteworthy and darned impressive. Forget it if you like Stella Artois or Heineken and if you're a simple tradesman type of guy. Like me. But I get it-I brewed my own beer back in the mid 70's from a recipe of my neighbor-an old Slovenian lady. I would've died of happiness to find a store like this! The guy at the register was nice enough but not everyone is a young techie making $120k/year and I got the feeling that ordinary folks aren't exactly welcome. Prices are ridiculous. read more

We're really lucky to have such a unique liquor store in the neighborhood. They have a full selection of favorites including several Hitachinos, a special brew of Golden Draak, the obscure West of Kentucky bourbon and a wide selection of ciders and wines and everything. Now this is dangerous. One of the best selections of booze just a few blocks away. I usually pass by the Castro location on my way home. I have found many prizes at both stores including an ultra rare Elijah Craig 18 year single barrel bourbon. Join the bourbon and/or beer of the month club and get 10% off each purchase. Super friendly staff combined with an excellent and highly opinionated selection. A true gem. On par with the original location (I haven't been to the Richmond one, so I can't compare it). Excellent selection of agave-based liquors (tequila, mezcal etc.), bourbon and beer. A decent selection of other spirits - everything they have is absolutely top notch, but you'll likely only be able to find one or two options of any particular spirit - for example, they only have one aged jamaican rum. read more

Pretty good selection but it is marked up like crazy! Especially for the wines (I saw a Riesling that was double the price for what I've paid for at other Liquor stores).The service here is pretty bad. We had questions about the different wines and liquors and they were extremely short and brusque, not helpful at all. They wanted us to get out because there were other customers waiting In line, I guess the fact that we were spending $$ didn't occur to them that were also customers who deserve respect. I walked by on a sunny afternoon, I was intrigued but kept walking to my destination. On my way back from my errands, I popped in and boy am I glad I did! I found a beverage oasis in Bernal Heights. Absolutely fantastic beer selection! Probably the best I've seen in the city. I spent longer than expected pouring over all the specialty bottles starting with domestic beers, then on to the imports. Also, any place that has the full lineup of Marca Negra Mezcal goes way past good, all the way to magnificent. The selection is interesting, diverse, and impressive all around. Service was cordial and exactly enough. The shop guy knew his stuff. I'll be back when I'm in the neighborhood to get my favorites and try some new and exotic sips. Highly knowledgable and friendly customer service. I've gotten recommendations here for everything from rum for tiki drinks, to specialty mezcal and bitters. I've bought many gifts for friends (and for me) based on their suggestions with lots of success. My go-to liquor store. read more

I know it's a liqour store , but they carry Spicy Jalapeno Libani Dip, which is crack! Highly recommended you pick some up w/ chips or pita bread. People are really nice too. read more

Wow, who knew buying a gift could be such a great experience. Long story short, I've learned that tequila isn't my friend, but a friend I needed to get an A++ gift for loves it. In comes Greg at the Cortland location of Healthy Spirits. It wasn't just his in-depth knowledge of blanco tequilas, it was also his willingness to help me over the phone. He spent more than 30 minutes helping me pick the best of the best. Then when I finally made it to the store, he offered more than customer service, he treated me like a friend. In a day and age when customer service is typically lip service, it was a boost to my 'spirit' to have Greg restore my faith. In addition, the selection of the tequilas (and other spirits) was extremely impressive. Check them out for your next gift or Friday night.
