I had Heart & Honey at my birthday party a couple of months ago and people are STILL talking about it! They were so easy to work with from beginning to end. Hailey asked me for a few of my favorite drinks, and based on that, curated a menu of about 20 drinks for me, from which I chose 5 signature cocktails to get us all giggling and dancing through the night. She gave me a grocery list based on the number guests, so I didn't even have to do any guess work. I was also allowed to customize the drink names, which was super fun! YAAAS Kween!! (Yes, that was one of the drinks.) Even the menu she printed for the party was super cute. The service was absolutely superb. My party started at 7, and Hailey was there at 6:30 with Bertha the Bar (in pieces, of course). Within minutes, the bar was built, cups were stacked, taps were filled, and limes were cut. Haley was up and running at 7 on the dot, and kept us going until midnight! She even created a special drink which she poured into shots. So tasty! I can't rave about this company enough. In early May we requested a quote for a wedding bartender for early November. Not long after we sent over a security deposit to lock down the date. In early August, we started coordinating with Haley and designing our menu, but after the initial session she became unresponsive. When she finally did respond, a month before the wedding, it appeared she didn't remember that she never delivered a menu to us so we vocalized our concern. She responded back that she was canceling on us due to some personal issues that had been going on for a while. She gave us three numbers of people to cold call as potential replacements. We are very reasonable people and understand personal emergencies happen, but what was the most upsetting about this is that she had known about these issues for multiple months, canceled all of her other engagements, yet never communicated to us that there might be a problem. She should have come to us earlier and given us a choice to try and find a replacement. Instead she left us in the lurch, didn't help us find a replacement, and we didn't have a bartender at our wedding. Wine and beer only, no spirits were allowed. Someone offering services for weddings doesn't sit on a problem and not communicate it to their customers, then cancel a MONTH before one of the most important days of your life. I recently took a class with Heart & Honey at a local shop that hosts other local makers to teach their craft and it was better than I could have imagined. The class was between $70 and $80 and lasted 2.5 hours. Our subject: How to make your own bitters. I've recently bowed out of drinking alcohol but if I'm out I'll order a soda water with bitters... which has about as much alcohol in it as a cough drop but tastes so good and refreshing. I was interested in learning more and thought it could be a cool activity to do at a future event and luckily, turns out, making your own bitters is fairly simple. Like, surprisingly so. Had it just been making the bitters and leaving I probably would have been like, wow I can't believe that was $70 BUT they do provide you with everything, including containers and what was more where the value was, was learning about the ingredients and the general process of making cocktails. I left with so much more knowledge than I came in with and I feel like the next event I throw will have some killer drinks thanks to Hailey from Heart & Honey. I'm excited to see what other future classes are offered because the set up for the class was so well done and it wasn't just about making the subject matter once and leaving, but really more about getting to grow your knowledge and develop skills you can build on, on your own. read more

I needed to book a mixologist for a last minute team building I was planning for my company. She (luckily) had availability, and great rates for the services she offers. She led a class on the components to making a "basic" cocktail, and then provided many different ingredients to turn those basic cocktails into something unique and delicious! Part of the event was cocktail making class, and part of it was cocktail competition! She was super personable, helpful, knowledgeable, and most importantly, she brought my coworkers out their shells and into a creative and team building atmosphere! My experience with Heart and Honey was perfecttion! My two lovely bartenders arrived ready to go and even dressed in theme (1920s) as requested! They didn't charge a "costume fee" to do so either, which another vendor had quoted. They knew the theme of my event was "gold" so they even brought Gold mixers and utensils! They settled in in like 5 seconds and started to get to work. The bar was slammed all night and they were really on top of it. The two of them worked together and were really the superstars of the evening. Holy Smokes! I know that Heart & Honey brings smart, colorful and original cocktails to catered events and parties, but I had no idea that Hailey is bringing her craft spirit game to pop-up dinners as well! I attended Grain & Garnish on Sunday, August 5th not quite knowing what to expect. What we got was a full sensory experience that encompassed anything I could have predicted. As I was lead into a quirky, mixed-use industrial space in the Mission District a glass of Provence rose was poured and I relaxed on a rooftop with appetizers (whipped feta on crostini with pickled cherries and fresh mint sprigs and a brie gougerge with mushroom powder). I schmoozed with the other attendees for an hour or so at which time we sat down and were presented with a quaffable mason jar of warmed ancient grains broth. The first cocktail was mezcal, grilled nectarine puree, honey and smoked sage served up in a coupe. The soup course was a delightful cold green tomato gazpacho with an herbed tapenade. The soup was light, nourishing and an excellent palate opener. The hosts and chef were friendly, warm, professional and quick to our dinning needs. The second cocktail came just after the soup course - hangar one vodka, lemon cucumber shrub, lillet and a kombucha finish for effervescence. This was served in a champagne flute with a sliced cucumber and lemon garnish. This was soon followed by a large antipasto platter of root veggies and braised artichoke hearts. Yum! Again, this vegetarian feast was filling, but not uncomfortably so in the slightest. After the platters were cleared Hailey drew our attention to a number of heart-shaped cards that sat to the right of everyone's setting. On each card an open-ended question was written designed to stimulate conversation and community. Examples were: What puts you in the flow? What have you learned about yourself in the last year? What clothes make you feel sexy? The cards had the desired effect and more. We around and everyone had the opportunity to answer. These questions prompted other ideas and led to more sharing and the feeling that this group was witnessing something special, something beyond words that only food, drink, merriment and togetherness can foster. In short, a sense of togetherness. The main was a veggie take on pasta carbonara, only instead of pasta, thinly sliced squash and zucchini as well as roasted eggplant was tossed with egg and parmesan. YUM! This was paired with a bourbon cocktail mixed with a watermelon-basil aqua fresca in a rocks glass with fresh basil. Phew! Finally, the dessert flourish was a simple blackberry tart with freeze-dried blueberries and a mixed berry powder. This was paired with Heart & Honey's own vanilla rose and amaretto liqueur. Wow. Hailey was extremely easy to work, delivered 7 creative recipes that we reviewed ahead of time and adjusted with her suggestions. I gave her a list of about 15 franchises to potentially pick from and asked to focus on creating 2 cocktails each category (video games, movies and tv shows). To say she delivered is an understatement. The cocktails were creative, with clever fun names and plays on relationships within the franchise that indicated she had really done her homework. My (now) wife and I hired Hailey to bartend our wedding this past weekend. If you're looking for a bartender, all I can say is please hire Hailey and co. We had about 225 people in attendance, 200 of which were of drinking age. Our guests continually came to us throughout the night telling us how awesome the bar was and how sweet and wonderful the bartenders were. Our guests also cleared out both signature cocktails. To me, that's the highest compliment to be paid to someone mixing drinks: that people were only interested in the cocktails being served :) Ok, but that's all the stuff on the day of. Could not have had a better experience. We used Heart and Honey bartending for a birthday party with around 50 adults at a venue in Alameda. We chose to have a consultation before hand were Hailey talked with us about which type of cocktails we liked and what we were hoping for in terms of mood for the party. Using this info she then sent a list of incredible looking drinks. From this list we selected a couple as the "signature" drinks of the party. She then sent us a shopping list for alcohol and mixers with detailed quantities and locations. We elected to not have her bring ice and supplied this on our own but we could have asked her to bring this as well. At the event itself she showed up early, set up a portable bar and got everything organized before the start of the event and was ready to offer drinks to our first (early) guests. She did a great job during the three hour party and we got many compliments on the drinks and her great personality. At the conclusion of the evening she helped box up the unused drinks/supplies and helped rack the glasses. Without a doubt we will use her services again and couldn't imagine going with another bartending service. I would say that the way we did it is more appropriate for someone who is willing to pick up drink making supplies and glassware but she may offer a turn key service as well.
