I purchased a retired breeder girl from this breeder. She was 5-1/2 years old and absolutely terrified when I first got her. I expected that as a possible reaction to a new environment. Her tail was always, always wedged under her butt. It took months before her tail slowly began to make its way out to a slightly noticeable wag to indicate some level of trust and pleasure. I will say she was up-to-date on vet care and vaccines, but her teeth were an absolute mess with two abscessed teeth. Slowly I began to realize this scared pup did not play with toys, did not respond to treats, doorbells, door knocks, other people, or even other pets. At 5-1/2, she had no clue what to do when I put a leash on her. I'm convinced she never even knew she had a name. She was never potty trained (at 5-1/2!!!), and potty training her now is a total bust because she will not respond to treats. She runs away when I offer her a treat, as if she's about to be grabbed by a bribe (the only explanation I can come up with). I've spent 2-1/2 years desensitizing her to people, sounds, changes in environment...building trust. As a hound dog, she showed zero curiosity, so I made a point of always getting her to smell everything. It's progress, and she's way more curious, but there's a long way to go. I've had 6 other dachshunds, and this sweet girl has few of the characteristics which doxies are famous for. I can only surmise that she was never socialized, never knew affection and love, and had very limited human interaction except to be treated as a tool. This breeder did a huge disservice to this poor beautiful pup. She has come a long way with a lot of work, and at 8 years old she is now very well loved and cherished and will always be even with the challenges. Every so often those doxie traits begin to show up as trust continues to build. Advice: be cautious if buying a retired breeder dog from this breeder. read more

This is my second wonderful experience with heartfelt dachshunds. I came home with 10 week old wirehaired doxy. Rosie! She is healthy as per my vet, vaccinated. Papertrained (amazing) and beautiful. This is my only place to get the best ever doxies! read more

My 8 year old cream colored long hair dachshund came from Carter's. He is a wonderful dog. He is very handsome also. Unfortunately he is on 3 expensive anti seizure medications. His grand mal seizures have been difficult to control. They are so bad that he has thrown his back out more than once. Two years ago he required spinal surgery ($7,000.00). His back legs were paralyzed. His quality of life is greatly compromised by the medications he needs to take three times a day. My Veteranarian said that his medical conditions are the result of poor breeding practices. read more

BUYER BEWARE!! We had put a deposit down on a cute mini and Lynda was quick to take our deposit. We tried to communicate with her while waiting on the puppy to be old enough to leave his mother, and asked her to possible send us a pic of him. She stated she was too busy to do that and she had too many puppies to take care of to get pictures. That should have been our warning. She then had a phone conversation with my wife and told us she would send out a contract and we could pick up the puppy on Sept 3rd. So I made arrangements with work to have that day free. We reached out to her by making several phone calls and text two days prior to Sept 3rd and she never responded. My wife reached out again today (the day before we were supposed to get him), several phone calls and a text, and Lynda text back that there was no way we were going to be able to get him on Thursday. She had made excuses about having so many pickups tomorrow and she still had to do phone interviews, etc, even though she had told us in a previous phone conversation that we could pick him up on Thursday. So we are distraught, he was supposed to be my wife's birthday present. Lynda was quick to make that not happen. Stating she is just too busy (i am thinking it must be more of a puppy mill), she doesn't have time for us even though she told us a long time ago we could get him Sept 3rd. I would not recommend this business, the communication is poor and Lynda is not professional. The name should not be Heartfelt Dachshunds, it should be HeartBroken because that is how she left us! read more

Working with Carters Dachshunds was a pleasure. Lynda communicated very well with us for the 4/5 weeks we were waiting to pick up our precious little girl. Lennie is more than we ever expected, she is a beautiful dapple and has best little personality. We did not have an issue with her transitioning to our home, she fits in perfectly. I have purchased several pups from several different breeders. This by far has to be the first high end puppy mill I have come across. I do NOT recommend this breeder, she pushes out far too many pups a month to be considered a breeder. Total disappointment. No one should ever put a pup on a plane for shipment without confirming with buyer... Seriously I never heard back from her, I called the afternoon of shipping, she was at the airport dropping pup off never not once did she confirm with me for pick up. My pup would still be sitting at the airport if I had not called her. This from a woman who refused to do ground shipment, in my opinion she refused so she could make another $100 off the shipping fee she charged... DO NOT purchase a pup from this woman, she's nothing more than a puppy mill... How many pups do you ship a month Lynda? How many pups do you have a month? A good breeder should only have at the most, 1 or 2 litters a year... The pup I purchased, her mom was only a year old.... A good breeder refuses to breed until bitch is at least 2 years of age... This mom was an entire year too young, unreal! read more

Do not buy from Linda Carter. We bought a long haired sable dachshund from Linda several years ago. Linda was very friendly and the dachshund has become a very close member of our family. However, it has always bothered me that Linda was less than forthcoming and misleading on the phone and w/ the pictures of our pup. I asked Linda and was very specific about the puppies background, any issues with his parents, free of genetic issues etc - Linda said the puppy was perfect and we would be pls'd. When our puppy arrived - it was apparently obvious that he had a very severe over bite. Linda never mentioned any of this to us and the pictures she posted on her website were frontals only. Bottom line, she knew exactly what she was doing! Happy to say our Brees is a loving smart dog and to be honest - we have grown to love his overbite and would not trade him for anything. However, I would never buy from Linda Carter again - beware! read more
