A hidden gem in Okotoks. Handily beats many high end restaurants in the City of Calgary. Exquisite food. I had the filet mignon and the cut of meat was exceptional and cooked to exactly how I had requested. Seasoned perfectly. My first time trying succotash, I must say that I am a fan. Our server mentioned that he was fairly new and it showed. His presence and attention was a little off, Had to ask others for drink refills and no one came around asking how our food was after it was served. Good thing that it was amazing. The only other mark was that even though they had some AC units, they didn't seem powerful enough to cool the building and it was very hot in there. Also, there back staff door to the outside was used quite a bit and we found it distracting because every time it was opened, full sunlight would shine in and fully light up a room they were trying to keep dim. We love Heartland and come to eat here a couple of times a month. The staff are all wonderful and we enjoy Greg's sense of humour! The food is always excellent with some innovative menu options. Date Night Win! 10/10 Would Drive from Calgary Again! So, my boyfriend and I escaped the city of Calgary for a much needed date night and ended up in the charming little "old town" of Okotoks. This is all thanks to the powers of TikTok and a very convincing For You Page that I stumbled upon. That's how we found Heartland Café, and honestly? It was giving romantic fairytale meets historical church vibes. Gorgeous interior, stained glass, cozy lighting... I wish I, "we", dressed a littles more fancy than the table we sat at! To start, I sipped on a crisp glass of Chardonnay (chef's kiss), while he channeled his inner Don Draper with a whiskey sour. We kicked things off with the oven-baked brie and beet purée. Was it amazing? Yes. Were we also starving? Absolutely. But I stand by it, it was creamy, melty, and just what our hungry souls needed. P.S. you can ask for more bread ;) we surely did. For mains, I had the pecan-crusted chicken which was a beautiful, crunchy masterpiece. Also moist, very moist. He went for the duck gnocchi, which he described as "super rich", right before devouring the entire thing like a man possessed. No crumbs, zero! Then came the blackberry orange panna cotta. I'm still emotionally recovering from how good it was. If you go, just trust me: don't share it. I made that mistake. Regret. Deep, delicious regret. Another thing we loved? The relaxed, European-style pace of the whole evening. We were never rushed, seating to paying was about an hour and a half, and it gave us that rare gift: quality time. Overpriced hype. The special, chicken caesar wrap sounded good. Two light eaters (seniors) decided to share the order. We chose a salad from the list of sides given. We asked if we could have an extra plate so we could divide the order. Server said it could be split so we were thrilled. Until we got the bill. Our "side" salad was billed at $4.50, and then there was the $3.50 they charged as "splitting fee". We were appalled!! read more

Nice and quaint restaurant that was once and old church. Came in a Friday for lunch and was quite busy. Waited an hour for our table. Menu was decent and had a good wine selection. Craft beers were on tap but only about 3 to choose from. Food was just ok. A bit underwhelming tbh. The burger was a bit small for the price they were charging and the rest of the food was also just mediocre. The service was good and friendly but the meals took a very long time to arrive. Overall a nice place to visit if in the area but I wouldn't consider it to be a must try. I had higher hopes but oh well. read more

Comfort Food, made locally. That's their motto and they certainly live up to it. It's located in a turn of the century church just off old downtown. The menu offers a twist on lots of favourites so you'd be hard pressed to find something you didn't like, such triple cheese pasta, Bison meatloaf or pan seared salmon. I had the elk burger which was spectacular. It came with a stack of scalloped potatoes which were good but could have been a bit more exciting, however they also offer rice or salad. Another big hit at the table was the short rib sandwich. Really good and the side salad was nice. Service was attentive, although they missed one ordered item, and perhaps a bit too "familiar" ie I don't really need to know how busy she is, again. However, the food is so good and interesting that I think I can overlook that and head back again to check out the rest of the menu. read more

Tried this place again. Was charged $4.95 for a club soda with lime. No such thing as refills here and we were not advised so paid $7 for my hubs to have 2 colas. My husband and I found this beautiful restaurant when we were searching for a coffee house. We were very pleasantly surprised when we found it was a restaurant and so we sat down and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. I have to say it was the best breakfast I had in a looooong time. Now we usually go every Sunday morning. My favourite is the Grilled Breakfast Sandwich - fried egg, smoky bacon, aged cheddar cheese, Roma tomato, lettuce, & herbed roasted garlic aioli on organic honey-grain toast. DELICIOUS! The garlic aioli is a great touch to this sandwich. They have the best bread as well, the organic honey-grain toast...nice big thick slices. The interior is nicely decorated. It used to be an old church and now they've made more modern. This is one of Okotoks best kept secrets in my opinion! read more

Awesome... Just awesome. Lovely atmosphere in a cozy old church building. Amazing food-- everything is Homemade, even the hamburger buns and sald dressings. I ordered the veggie burger-- which was delicious, but my favorite was the simple side salad it came with. Super fresh organic greens with grated carrots abd beets and homemade raspberry vinegrette. My husband loved his hamburger and side potatoes. Kid friendly as well- nice kid menu- healthy choices... Just beware the breakable items in their little country store at the front of restaurant!! Wow!! This place was an awesome surprise on our trip back from Calgary. The chicken and waffles and Huevos Rancheros are worth the stop. They have a truffle hollandaise that makes any breakfast tasty. The portions are large and the coffee is pretty good too!! The staff were very friendly and the building is really funky and retro. Everything about this place is great. They have a lot of street parking and a lot in the back as well as they are very child friendly. Not sure if they're understaffed or we were just a mere inconvenience. Our server appeared grumpy and put out that we were there. The couple at the table next to us received way better service...we were steps away and our server would go to them, but not check in with us. We had to call her over every. Single. Time. Then she would appear annoyed at us. When I've been there in the past, the food was great. Today, it was subpar. I'm sure lots of the staff are great and the food is good (depending on what you order), but we were not impressed today. The server could smile - or practice putting on a fake one at the very least. We were two very polite girls who said please and thank you and worried about upsetting her. She didn't even say "hello" or "thank you". If you don't like your job, maybe look elsewhere? read more

Restaurants that focus on local food are my absolute favourite. We've been staying in Okotoks quite a bit and I had little hope for decent food. As luck would have it, I found Heartland cafe which has GREAT food. Everything is house made. Some of my faves have been the Cobb Salad and the Beet Salad both with creamy feta dressing. Heartland cafe is a beautiful restaurant in downtown Okotoks. The restaurant itself is located in a cozy all-wood church building. It's comfortable, roomy, and would make a beautiful setting for a wedding reception. I've only ever been for breakfast which comes with the best bread known to man. I'm not sure where they get it from. It is amazing. The food is extremely high quality and everything on the menu is succulent and awesome. This place is great sometimes and not so great others. The food has always been really great. Every meal I have had there both lunch and dinner had been great. I find that the service is what is lacking. Went there for a birthday dinner a while ago and they didn't have a lot of specials left since it was latter in the night. Also they ran out of starch sides so I only got 2 very small potatoes with my veggies. When I made the reservation a month before hand I wish the person mention that an earlier time would be ideal if we were interested in the specials. I just felt ignored and rushed by the server. Food is average my biggest complaint is paying 18 percent for service that was not even equivalent to that of a hotdog cart outside a trashy bar after we got our bill and 2 meals yes thats right ! 2 meals out of 8 were not even on time given to us with our bill at this time we felt it was necessary to exploit this issue we paid the bill in full and tried to get manager to call us back which they finally did after a week and said our expectations of the restaurant were un realistic ya thats right why should everyone eat together silly me i hope the manager sees this review and quits her job and picks bottles for a living so no else has such a terrible experience. read more

I've been a huge fan of this restaurant since its days downtown in Sunnyside. I was so sad to see it close down 5-10 years ago but absolutely thrilled when I stumbled upon its new venue in old town Okotoks. I ADORE this restaurant!! Amazing food for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The quality is unparalleled - delicious, fresh, & unique. Like home cooking, but WAY better!! I can't get enough of their homemade daily soups, yummy bread & tasty green salad. The atmosphere is quaint, calm, peaceful & enjoyable in this beautifully renovated church. I only wish the staff didn't seems so hectic/hurried and slightly grumpy/gruff - but they're always very busy & hardworking. Went for lunch with a friend, I had the Guinness stew - very good, and he had the gluten free burger - which he raved about - best ever! Gluten free bread I am told is very hard to make well, and his bun was perfect - just like normal bread, and the bacon wrapped meatloaf for the burger was outstanding.
