My lovely friend and coworker Angie at Black Dog Ranch (check out her account for adorable dog photos) has a beautiful ranch south of the city and she led me to these donuts that are the talk of Black Diamond. Naturally I had to get my hands on some. Rules for ordering your Westwood Donuts: 1 They change up their flavours every week, so if a round appeals to you, jump on it! 2 You have to place your order on Wednesday before they sell out. Don't press the snooze on this. 3 There's only a short window on Saturday for pick-up (12-3PM on Saturdays). Once you've completed the steps above, you're on your way to donut heaven. RATING: 9/10 - Westwood: Donuts The dough is everything you want it to be--soft, fluffy and fresh. It makes a great base for the various donut creations. I had the pleasure of trying these flavours: Chocolate Fudge Filled: With rich chocolate custard and coated in cinnamon sugar. You can't go wrong here. Banana Cream Pie: This tasted exactly like it sounds. Fragrant banana custard with whip and bananas on top. If you did a blind taste test, it would be hard to differentiate this from the real pie. Nerds Glaze: Imagine a blue raspberry starburst. This one was sweet, tropical and sour. Lemon Glaze: Pound cake in donut form. I adored the natural lemon flavour! The Banana Cream Pie stole my heart, but they were all worth writing home about. I can't wait to have an excuse to try these glorious donuts again and check out Westwood's food and patio. Excellent burgers! This was our first visit to this restaurant. We had take-out burgers that come with a generous side of yam fries. Outstanding flavour and quality of all parts involved. Very friendly staff that accommodated all our requests. We will definitely visit again and hopefully soon dine in. Their outdoor patio is functioning weather permitting. Super friendly and welcoming staff and atmosphere. Great customer service. Great food options that aren't the usual (but not weird either) and a welcomed experience for the tastebuds. They even have halloumi...if you've never had it, try it, again a new experience for the tastebuds. Even our picky eater enjoyed breakfast. The food was underwhelming, it was not very tasty. I had the rice bowl with tofu and the tofu was weird... it tasted more like tempeh and was kind of grey in colour. Definitely not appealing. The place was also really noisy, the acoustics are bad and they played loud rock music which only added to the din. I won't be back unless I'm desperate. read more

We had a very good experience here. Sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the evening sun. I had the Bourbon BBQ wings. They were very good. Perhaps a bit too much BBQ sauce. My wife had the tacos. She thought they were excellent. Waitress was friendly. We would recommend this place to one and all. read more

The food is so good here. I have rarely been dissatisfied with anything I have ordered. The staff are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. I still dont come here for the AMAZING donuts anymore because it is so so so busy. But I am very hally for their success. I highly reccomend the chimichurri steak sandwich and or the shrimp po'boy. read more

OMG - DON'T GO! So bad in so many ways. We were driving through the area on the way to Calgary and decided to find some lunch. The Yelp reviews looked pretty good -- WOW THAT WAS A MISTAKE! -- or else locals have very low standards. I have never seen so many flies inside a restaurant. It was disgusting. The food was mediocre at best and the service was horrific (practically non-existent). This is one of the worst excuses I have ever seen for a restaurant. Trust me -- GO ELSEWHERE. Oh, by the way, one of our group members accidentally left a nice jacket and we didn't realize it until we got to Calgary. We tried to call -- their message says basically that they don't answer the phone nor return messages. Our email messages were likewise ignored. Makes it pretty clear that they don't care to be inconvenienced. read more

Yum! So many delicious dishes! Do you like donuts? They make the very best donuts! A great menu selection and everything is good!

Well it was just plain great all around. Clean, fast, great menu. My wife had the burger with bacon jam and it was out of this world. I had the fish tacos and highly recommend them as well. Service was perfect. Very covid careful for our first time out in forever. Oh and they had my favoite brew on tap, pilsner from Fahr Brewery. We'll see you soon again read more

Con: They need to dust the furniture, and pick the dead leaves off the plant in the front window. That aside, the PROs far out-number my tiny criticism. Our family of four stopped in for a late lunch today after our drive through Kananaskis country while we vacationed in the area. We all thoroughly enjoyed the huge bowls of delicious homemade vegetable soup and the lovely fresh homemade cheddar buns. One of our sons also had the Egg Salad Sandwich and appreciated the extras inside (lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes). Both sons had special coffees (I can never remember what they are called!) and were reportedly superb. Ambiance inside was lovely (aka peaceful, mellow music) with three small tables of locals supporting this delightful asset to Black Diamond. The outdoor patio also had a few tables occupied. With everything on their varied menu being home made, it's sure to be a popular place. read more

This place rocks! I was on a road trip and decided Black Diamond was a good place for a stop and came across this hidden gem. The staff was so friendly and inviting and the food was both unique and incredibly fresh. I had fried chicken from the Sunday brunch menu and it rocked my socks off. Tasty coffee too. If you manage to catch this place on a sunny day, I highly recommend the patio. Thanks Westwood! You have given me bragging rights for Canada's cuisine when I get back to Los Angeles. read more

Menu looked great and modern they had gluten free options like gluten free buns. I had the burger at it was very good and a nice salad. They have local craft beer and other selection of adult beverages The restaurant it self is nice inside and they have a large patio that is also dog friendly. Great staff. Great coffee. Great food. Great local beer on tap. One of my favourite places to go for food in black diamond. They have great options for all meals and their Sunday brunch is absolutely incredible. They also have occasional specials, like in house smoked ribs or a cod burger if you go at the right time. Once a month they also have an open mic that is not only entertaining but the people who come to watch are friendly and the performers are (usually) incredibly talented. read more

Visiting from Ontario. Came to Black Diamond to check out the stores. Lady at Bohemia recommended The Westwood. The soup was a meal in itself.and very good. The salads were beautifully presented and more than enough for a meal. I would recommend anybody try this restaurant. Prices reasonable and staff very friendly and efficient. read more

This place is a hidden gem. A great little coffee shop with small town appeal and big city sophistication. Free wifi as well.

Bad experience. Very claustrophobic, hard to move between tables, bad set up, and the menus are laid out in the same fashion. It's frustrating to only be able to chose from certain sections of the menu on certain days, but not even all the choices for the "Sunday Brunch" menu were available. Most choices were unappealing and the one choice a kid would eat was unavailable. Not enough staff, could barely handle the seated customers, but customers just walking in for a coffee were left waiting for up to 10-15 minutes before even being acknowledged. By the time we found a brunch menu item that seemed somewhat appetizing and the kitchen was still serving, food came fast, but was over seasoned. Definitely overpaid for meals no one finished and everyone left feeling sick after eating. $90 for Sunday brunch and still had to stop at Tim Hortons for food for the kids on the way home. read more

What a great lil find. We were inticed by its diverse menu but when we sat down we were told its Sunday brunch menu all day (before 3pm). Not an issue as we soon realised what a great brunch menu with many unique ingredients. Salmon Benny and Fried chicken were delightful. Other dishes being served looked very nice all around. Great patio with live music. I was told they also have a line up of performers some even sold out nights. Eclectic lil restaurant with a warm and inviting service staff and a kitchen that obv knows what they are doing! I highly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again. Ideal for afternoon drive and lazy afternoon lunch or even a date night drive from Calgary!!! read more

If overpriced fake rustic ambience is your thing, then this place is for you. Excellent bacon, overcooked eggs, one piece of dry sourdough bread that had only a passing acquaintance with a toaster, the inevitable arugula with balsamic reduction (maybe - there was so little who knows) served in an old tin cake pan ('ambience") at a table just steps from an open doored bathroom (bathrooms open directly into the restaurant, so it's impossible not to sit just about in front). The Saturday morning home made donuts are excellent, but don't try to order them from your table. No, you have to abandon your food and join the lineup at least ten minutes before they start selling donuts, no matter that you've already been there 45 minutes, most of it waiting for your bacon and eggs (might as well, since that lineup snakes through the restaurant, with peoples wet coats dripping on your table and someone sneezing into your hair so that food in the tin pan is even less appealing ). Except, strangely, one table - must be regulars - had their donuts delivered to their table. No, not going back. Three of us stopped in yesterday for a light lunch. Three young girls behind counter taking orders and serving. We ordered the chicken curry rice soup and a smoked turkey sandwich and asked for no onions on sandwich, which gal wrote down. Sandwich came with onion, soup was tasteless and watery with two minuscule pieces of chicken and big chunks of tasteless carrots. We got the first soup and sandwich and waited 10 min. for the next bowl. Soup was spilled when we received it and no napkins were provided. The young gals seemed completely disinterested in the customers. Such a disappointment. read more

Today, Sunday August 30, 2015 we went there to enjoy the afternoon. We ordered 2 options on the menu showed as a chicken burger and a Denver Cluck with fries. We paid for it and we were given only a debit card statement not giving a breakdown what was paid for. Only one burger arrived after 20 minutes of waiting. When my husband went inside to inquire he was told he already received his order why is he inquiring. He said but I ordered a chicken burger and a Denver Cluck and only a chicken burger arrived. He was told by the owner's 16 year old son who works there that it was one and the same thing and that is what he ordered. My husband ordered two items, why did only one item arrived? But everything left there - we ordered another burger assuming it was the menu that is so confusing. After another 20 minutes the second burger arrived. My husband was asking: Where are the fries? Because the first burger had fries. The owner's 16 year old son who brought the order said my husband did not order fries. So we left it there. The next thing while we are enjoying our meal the owner came storming up to us and told us we should not be rude to his son, because it is his child. At no point were we rude. The people sitting around us should have heard it, if we were rude. Is it rude just to ask : Where are the fries?????????????????I think the owner should see his son under four eyes because if somebody start lying at such a tender age I see dark trouble for his future. I always recommended people to go to the Stop , but today was the last day I will never go there again and also recommend that nobody else goes there. I don'tt like the way the owner treated us without even asking what is wrong he accused of of being rude to his son when we just ask where are the fries? Are the customers not allowed to ask? I think he should investigate his son that is a liar at such a young age. It is disgusting!!! read more
