We worked with Hearty Boys for our February 2025 wedding and could not recommend them enough! Alyson and her team were amazing and we were hooked from the first tasting. Alyson listened to all of our questions and concerns with guests' potential needs. One of our guests has severe allergies and Hearty Boys was well aware, ensuring our guest was well take care of, providing a delicious meal and not missing out! The food was delicious and we received raved reviews from our guests! A huge priority for us was that the food was hot. We all know that wedding food could either be cold and/or not flavorful, but that was not the case here. The presentation was also wonderful! Luckily, Hearty Boys has worked in our venue (Artifact Events) countless times and they were a well oiled machine. I honestly don't have enough words to describe how incredible our experience with Hearty Boys was. From our initial tasting all the way through our reception day, we were blown away but the quality of service we received from Alyson and her crew. We didn't do a sit-down dinner for our reception, rather a large grazing table, passed apps, and desserts, and they brought our vision to life in such a beautiful way. On the day of our reception, the Hearty Boys staff delivered my husband and I a large platter of appetizers and a charcuterie board to our bridal suite so we could be sure to eat prior to jumping into the day. The food was all ridiculously good, and we got so many comments from guests about it being the best wedding food they'd ever had! I do need to give a special shoutout to Alyson. She is truly what made our experience spectacular. She was excited, positive, supportive, and so loving and caring throughout the entire process. First time using Hardy boys, The owner John was very professional when he came over to discuss my needs. The event was for my late husband who would had passed away for a memorial service having people over at my place. Nice selection of food for the event. He was on time helped set everything up. He was very busy that day he had three other weddings. The one thing I thought was strange, the wait staff. The person who worked that day, was his first day on the job and how I knew this because he told us. when I asked him what kind of experience do you have he said not much.I did ask him about training, not really. The young man was professional and polite. I gave him a very good tip for his efforts. What I thought was interesting being a first time client that you would put something there with no experience. but I get it was there was three weddings that day over mine. I have been in the hospitality business over 45 years so I clearly know how all of this works, I paid my deposit and the final invoice before the event. My family and friends were pleased with the food and the presentation. I never heard from Hardy boys after the event asking me if I was happy and how everything went. We choose Hearty Boys as our caterer for our wedding due to the food! The salmon wellington was just as good as we remembered at our tasting, the quinoa not as much. Everything else - the appetizers, the coordination, the organization, was all on point thanks to Alyson's hard work. The reason I am not giving 5 stars: Unfortunately, there was a clause in our contract saying that the price of food would increase if the guest count dropped below a certain amount. This was not a minor price increase but a 20-30% increase -- so it would be just expensive to cater food for 90 people as it would be for 110. Obviously we were not expecting so many guests to drop out due to the pandemic and I tried to get them to budge on this item but they would not. Our guest count dropped to around 75 as Delta hit -- luckily they agreed to make the same amount of food for a 115 person wedding (we were originally expecting 140-150) and work with us to arrange a drop off at a local food shelter. But given how expensive the contract and the pandemic, it would have been nice to have had some flexibility on this clause. read more

I'm a fan! We contacted Hearty Boys as a potential caterer for our wedding, had a proposal written up, had a nice long phone call with them, and were invited to come in for a tasting. We ultimately had to reschedule the tasting twice and HB's was really patient and accommodating about it. The protein dishes really stood out -- such as the Buttermilk Lavender Fried Chicken and the Barolo Braised Short Rib. They lived up to their descriptions and were some of the best I've had. Overall, they offer plenty of crowd pleasing food options. They also do a good job with thinking about how the food will be presented to the guests and the whole experience. I can't believe it's taken me so long to leave Hearty Boys a review but it's probably because I don't even know where to begin with how incredible they are! We originally planned to have our wedding in April 2020 but like many other couples, ended up being postponed multiple times. I can't even begin to explain how amazing, understanding, and reassuring Andy was throughout this process. It felt like he was there with us every step of the way and gave us so much peace of mind throughout every little hiccup. His communication and assistance (even with other areas of the wedding) was so beyond helpful and I'm not sure what we would have done without him. When we finally got to have our celebration in April 2022, David was onsite with us and WOW, we couldn't have asked for more! David's attention to detail was phenomenal - he helped keep us on track throughout both the ceremony and reception, coordinated with other vendors seamlessly, and was just incredibly kind and caring and helped us feel at ease throughout a day that can be super stressful. He made sure we got some time alone before the reception and thoughtfully had a selection of our passed appetizers waiting for us! Andy also made a point to stop by during our reception, which was so kind and shows you how much everyone at Hearty Boys truly cares about the couples they work with. Now, onto the food. Hearty boys are the best. One of my fondest memories from wedding planning was going to their shop for tastings with Dan. The appetizers were a highlight and we selected ones from different countries where we traveled: Japan, Puerto Rico, Spain, etc. They also served the alcohol (which we bought from Benny's to be cheap) and created a fun bourbon drink for my husbands friends and a non alcoholic version for my non drinking friends. On our wedding day most of our guests said they loved the food: a chicken dish, risotto rice dish, and fish dish. My husband and I were so excited that we told them to bring us all three which they did! Pro tip: include the actual dish description in RSVP cards so people know exactly what they are getting. We had some guests wish they would have selected "veg" if they knew it was risotto. Spending five figures on a dinner is not something you will do many times. Due to Covid restrictions in Australia, my friend is unable to come home for her wedding that was planned for December 2022, so she unfortunately had to cancel her ceremony and reception. Hearty Boys Caterers was supposed to provide the food for the reception, and kept $6,000 of payment as a "deposit." I understand them keeping $1000 or so, but given the fact that the service was supposed to be provided over a year out from now, this is extremely unreasonable. My friend asked if they could have $6000 worth of food to be donated to a shelter on Christmas and they refused. In addition, she requested that they provide $6000 worth of food and service on the original date for a smaller party. Again, they refused. This is absolutely ridiculous and I do NOT recommend Hearty Boys Catering. read more

We only did on tasting as we felt so comfortable and supported by Hearty Boys, specifically Alyson, during our tasting with them. They were so organized, really listened to what we had to say while also offering suggestions. Leading up to the wedding, Alyson was in constant contact to ensure we were on not forgetting anything. After attending a dozen or so weddings per year I've learned that the actual meal tends to be pretty eh. I can't remember the last time I actually enjoyed (and actually even ate) the meal at a Chicago wedding so the hubby and I tend to fill up on apps during the cocktail hour. I recently attended a wedding at Newberry Library and the caterer was Hearty Boys. Assuming I wouldn't like the main meal I spent the cocktail hour going to town on the fried mac and cheese (heavenly), pigs in the blanket (a must for any wedding cocktail hr) and dates filled with cream (just so-so, but I'm a hungry pregnant woman!). It turns out I didn't need to fill up during cocktail hour because the main meal was very tasty! I loved the salad, although I was sad I couldn't eat the big chunk of goat cheese (a no-no on the pregnancy list). My chicken was really good and the hubby loved his beef as well. Just as I was settling in my food coma (credit also goes to a big piece of cake) the Hearty Boys were back for late night snacks: vegetarian burritos and mini burgers. Genius! Hearty Boys was wonderful during every step of our wedding day and the months leading up to it. They were extremely responsive and helpful throughout all of the planning and decision-making process. Logistically, everything went smoother than we ever thought possible and they brought such a great personal touch to the menu and service on the day of the wedding. The food was incredible and we got a lot of compliments on it from our guests. It was important to us to have good food at our wedding and Hearty Boys really delivered! It was clear throughout our wedding day how much thought Hearty Boys has put into how to ensure couples actually enjoy their own weddings rather than just being the hosts of the day. They worked with us to craft a menu that fit with our personal tastes and gave helpful advice on room layouts and linen choices. During the wedding day, they ensured we got our beverage of choice and one of each appetizer perfectly plated in the bridal suite after the ceremony (they even brought us a 2nd appetizer plate after we requested one!). Then, even though we had family style dining, they plated our food at our table so we could be as efficient as possible with our time. Throughout the rest of the reception, the server assigned to only us brought us a drink whenever we wanted one, brought us a sampling of the dessert table spread, and delivered us the late-night bite.
