My husband wanted to try something new so we decided to try Heaterz chicken since we were in the area. Upon arrival, the place appeared ti be closed. There was only one car on the lot, and it didn't look like the lights were on. Another vehicle showed up and went to the door. Lo and behold they were open. We followed suite and went inside. The young man at the counter didn't greet us. So we opted to use the self service kiosk. We already browsed the menu ahead of time to make everything easy. We both ordered the chicken Sandwich combo, which comes with 1 side and a breadstick. You can choose what flavor you want, so i opted to get the Nashville hot (Spicy). We waited about 10 minutes before we got our food, i checked my bag to ensure everything was correct and headed home. The food was still piping hot once we got home. The Sandwich was juicy, and tender. Seasoned well, and not overly spicy. The fries were crispy, but yet still soft in the middle. They were little spiral cut fries. The breadstick was soft, and fluffy and the Parmesan drizzle on top added extra flavor. The Nashville street corn was delicious. The Parmesan drizzle was a great added touch. I would add a little salt to add some flavor/seasoning and some shredded Parmesan for extra texture. There are two small tables inside for those who want to dine in. There are also a few slot machines for those who like to play slots. It's painted black so it makes the place feel small and dark. Plenty of parking outside. I was introduced to Heaterz chicken by way of my employer feeding us when they had us work an extra day. I brought some leftovers home and my wife fell in love with it (obviously, the chicken does well reheated). Their current location on Main st in Alton is truly a hole in the wall. There is very little seating, a bit greasy, and no ambiance, so it's best to get the order to go. The portions are usually more than adequate, as a 3 piece original with a side feeds my wife and me. I really like their loaded potato salad and my wife is partial to the Nashville street corn. We eat from there at least once a month if not twice. I see that they are building a new restaurant across from Walgreens in Wood River. It (appears) to be strictly drive thru, which is fine with me. Best Chicken Spot in Alton! Chicken was flavorful, crispy, and filling. The sides add to every meal and the Loaded Potato Salad is a must try. I got the Chicken Tenders with Nashville Hot and the spice level was perfect and their homemade ranch is soo good. My boyfriend got the nashville hot Chicken Sandwich and wasn't a fan of the coleslaw (it's a bit sweet) but I really enjoyed it. Part of the problem with smaller local businesses is consistency of service. I've been going to this place for quite a while. When I first started going to Heaterz , the service was pretty personable and outstanding in fact. Went there tonight and service was slow and unapologetic. The front person is more concerned with gossiping and chatting than service.I was told my order will be ready in 10 to 15 minutes instead it was more like 30 to 40 minutes. I was so excited yesterday, when Heaterz location in Kirkwood got the ROTD here on Yelp. Then I realized, I have not written my own review for the original location. Something I need to correct now. Honestly, if I had my act together, I could have been First to Review. I've been coming here since they first opened, and have not been disappointed. A box of tenders or an order of hot wings are always a winner. Their Sidewinder Fries, truly are unique. They are not your typical looking crinkle fry. The slaw is right up there with KFC's and you've got to try their Nashville Street Corn at least once. Follow them on Facebook, so you'll know when they're having specials. Yesterday, I enjoyed a two piece white box. The breast piece was huge, juicy and crisp and the wing was meaty, too. The ambiance is like a dive bar/diner, but the food is good. I really don't like to leave a bad review but the last 3 to 4 times I've eaten here the food has tremendously gone downhill. From the wrong amount of chicken chunks or chicken strips to them adding sauce when you don't want sauce to your corn being burnt with no butter garlic sauce on it, to the breadsticks not having any garlic butter sauce on it The fried cheese curds are fried but they're not cheesy on the inside. I'm not quite sure what's going on up there right now but the owners of this place needs to get it in check a little bit. The food the first year that they opened was absolutely amazing and now it just keeps going downhill every single time I eat it. My chicken chunks were supposed to be Memphis hot which is a seasoning inside the batter​ but mine are sauced. Ordered two wing combo orders, one was Nashville Hot and the other was Original. I'm so disappointed because the last time we got Heaterz everything was very good. This time everything was bad (except the mac-n-cheese). The Nashville Hot wings didn't have any sauce on them. What little was on it looked like grease that was in the bottom of the container. They were just bad. They weren't seasoned at all. My boyfriend tried to doctor them up by making his own buffalo sauce, but that didn't help much. I got the original wings and they were just bad. I guess I thought they would have some kind of sauce (hence original sauce). But they were just plain wings, no seasonings, no flavor at all. The only thing I could do was dunk them in the ranch dressing for SOMETHING. The sides were the greens and the mac-n-cheese. The greens used to be really good but this time they were very bland. Again, no flavor. The mac-n-cheese was the only thing that was okay. This was our third time eating here. Not sure what happened this time. Great new to Alton hot chicken place! They are in the old Mini Corral building. Soft opening was last week, full opening this week. Dine in or carry out, but note dine in is very few tables as the building is very small. We called in our order, they said 30 minutes and it was just about exactly 30 minutes. They had several people picking up orders while we were there. Now let's get to the chicken! It comes in regular (not spicy) or nashville hot / spicy. Nashville hot / spicy isn't exactly as spicy as I expected - compared to say Hattie B's hottest level. It's more the mild version. It is juicy & perfectly cooked though! Strips are pretty decent sized, I was glad I didn't order the 3 piece and went with the 2 piece - 3 would have been too much for lunch. Fries were good & my hubby said the slaw was a 10/10. We really wanted to try the Nashville corn, but they were sold out because apparently everyone else wanted some too! I really want to like this place. I have had it a few times and it definitely hit or miss. Sometimes the chicken tenders are giant, sometimes they are skinny. Half the time, the chicken is super dry. The fried pickles are usually pretty good. The last time I ordered, the chicken sandwich was so over cooked that I couldn't bite through it. Best fried chicken around. Tenders are huge, and SPIICCCYY. I like hot food and I had to start getting the Nashville Mild instead of the Nashville Hot cause the Hot was a bit too much for me (not so much in flavor, but my stomach would not be happy with me afterwards). My hubby still likes the hot! The Nashville street corn is amazing. I normally get fries as a side at restaurants but their street corn is so good I prefer that! We also love getting the cheese curds to share! I generally order online then go pick it up to eat at home, and service is almost always good and quick, unless they are really busy. I would've given Heaterz 5 stars, but gave them 4 just because sometimes there are some inconsistencies. Like 99.9% of the time I get huge tenders, but .1% of the time they will be smaller. Though I will say, if they are smaller they often will throw an extra one in there to compensate which is really nice, but what I don't like is they don't seem to adjust cook time for the smaller tenders, so they are often dryer. Whereas the tenders are big they are always cooked perfectly and are juicy. But again, this rarely happens. I also personally wasn't a huge fan of the fried pickles, they were soggy, which is a bummer cause we normally love fried pickles. But again, we always order takeout so maybe if we had them fresh they wouldn't have been soggy. But I will say the chicken is never soggy, always crispy, even with ordering take out and bringing it home to eat! Another reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is they have raised their prices a lot since they've opened. Which I get it, inflation has hit everyone. But it sucks. I used to get the 2 tenders and a side for like $6.99, and I'd be completely full and satisfied after. But now they've changed it where you get 2 tenders, a side, and a breadstick for $9.99. The breadsticks are fine, but I'd rather not have it and be able to get my old combo for $6.99. But all in all, we love this place. Wanted to try this place out since it was newer. Prices are reasonable. Easy to order take out. The food also tasted good. My complaint and reason for 3 stars was incorrect order. I ordered tenders with sauce. What I received was plain tenders. By the time I found that the gave me plain I was already home and didn't want to waste more of my time to get it fixed. Chicken pieces were huge, but huge does not mean good. I'm guessing because of the size they need to be cooked longer just to make sure it's done. Because of that, the breading almost seems burnt. It was a very dark shade of brown like it was cooked in very dirty grease. It was also very thick and crunchy. It was edible but not something I'd go back for. The sides were pretty good though.
