It was a day of craving fried chicken, so off to FEFC for an inexpensive lunch. As I've said before, my go to is the White Box. It contains, two side breast and one center breast. I always thought a chicken breast was a chicken breast. Until I started eating here at Fast Eddie's, I didn't know there was a difference. To be honest, I still really don't know the difference. The reason I don't know the difference is because I am too busy enjoying my crispy crunchy chicken. I like how their chicken is simply seasoned with salt and pepper. Also, it's never overly greasy. The outside is thin and crispy and the inside is moist, tender and hot. All boxes come with a side of crinkle fries. They're fried crisp and the crinkles catch the ketchup, making them a perfect side. There's no dining in. It is walk-up to a window and order your food to go. Served from an old ice cream stand, this locally owned and run fast food place is strictly drive-up and carry out with phone in or walkup ordering. Chicken is old style with crinkle fries in a cardboard lunch box. Tasty but greasy, with reasonable prices. Opens late and closes early so check times. Old style malts and shakes, Good not great food but a fun experience to get take out. Not associated with Fast Eddie's Bon Air but well known and liked by locals. I finally went here for the first time recently, and it was alright. Wasn't sure about the history with the Fast Eddie's name or connection, as I assumed it was like its counterpart where they didn't take cards. It's not too far from the famed bar/restaurant, but in a sketchy part of Alton. You can simply park and walk up to the window and order. Or call ahead. There is no indoor eating. I got the fried chicken meal which came with fries. Soda was extra. I took it down to the river park and ate it. The chicken was good, crispy yet a little bland (should have asked for sauces!). Fries were great. For the soda, they give you small cubed ice, filled more than halfway in the cup. Would I go back? Probably. They have a decent menu, as in they don't just serve fried chicken. They do have other fried goods, as well as milkshakes and other things. And they don't just take cash, they do accept credit cards unlike the "other" Fast Eddies place in Alton. read more

Worst customer service Ive ever had. We bought over $30 of food and bought a $.42 cup of water. We asked if they could refill our water she wanted another $.42 i said we just spent $30 and already paid for the water which was filled to the brim with ice so there was literally only 2 drinks of water. She then tells me there is nothing she can do about it. Are you kidding me? Just fill the damn cup we already paid for with water its really that easy. It was a no. I honestly rarely get upset with bad customer service but on a 90+ degree day I literally wanted to throw the remaining ice right at her. No sorry no thanks no nada just a super rude woman that thinks 10oz of water is more important than a happy customer. Also apparantly 2 side of ranch is .68 but 3 was .98 also? I got the regular chicken with fries and find out real quickly I should have came here sooner. The chicken has a nice crust on it that looks golden. It wasn't very grease. And there certainly wasn't a need to on a recent visit to Alton, where I put a chicken leg in my mouth, hopped on the memory train, and reminisced about all the good times I had eating with family and friends over open boxes of chicken and fries. Solidly good fried chicken. I wish I could give it 5 stars but occasionally it is dry and not very fresh in spite of the place being busy. The chicken would benefit from a brine. Still the chicken is good, the coating crunchy and you receive a good value for the cost. The white box is an excellent value. The simple stand and the low prices make it a solid choice. There is enough chicken to share, and if you order an additional side it is easily a meal for 2 people. The mushrooms are delicious. I love this place. The service is quick and the food is great. I usually come at least 2-3 times every month, and I have never ever had bad food or service. The only thing is if you have a bigger size group you should probably call in. If you ever thought fried chicken HAD to be greasy, you are sooo wrong. This chicken was crispy and tasty but not greasy at all. This is simply good old fashion fried chicken, definitely worth the drive over the bridge.
