They offer meal deals on certain combinations - such as a Mini Fish and Chips + Mushy Peas (or Curry Sauce) for a fairly reasonable £2.50 - which represent a good feed for a small price. I personally don't like the skin left on one side which many places did. It can sometimes leave a fishy taste I think. There was no skin at Masons...the batter was very light and crispy and the fish was cooked just right. A+ Masons! The fries may have tasted better if I had eaten there....after carrying home they were not hot and that makes a huge difference with fries for me. They weren't bad...just not special in any way. So, not only are they passionate about their chips, the culinary art of preparing them has been passed down as a legacy. Ask just about any Brummie and they would have at least heard of Bedders. In my opinion, they make the best fish and chips I have ever tasted anywhere in the world. In fact, they're so successful that they're only open a few hours a day. They're the only place I know of that still wrap chips in newspapers, which gives such a unique texture to the chips. Its not the biggest of fish and chip shops but is adequate. You can get about 8 people in the shop before its getting full. The staff are ok in here, could be batter ( lame joke), but hey it could be a lot lot worse. They sell the usual that you would expect from a chippy. On to the food, if you want fish fine no problems here, they taste very very nice. Chips , well if you get fresh ones they are fine, but they have been known to be a little old and being not as nice as they could be. The kebabs here are nice but the lamb is kept in water to keep it moist which is not ideal really. Apart from those little moans the shop is actually quite nice. The prices are reasonable too so no complinats there either. All in all a nice chippy on a good day and at worst and ok chippy on a bad day, so 3 stars for this as it is a bit of a let down.

It is quite small, but it is clean and tidy and well-lit inside. I did not wait too long to be served and I settled with cod and chips. I noticed that they also served fried chicken and pies too, which I may contemplate next time. The man that served me was really chatty and very friendly, even though he was busy with my order and someone else's at the same time. He seemed to love what he was doing. The prices were fairly cheap and the portion sizes were more than enough. The food itself was brilliant, not a soggy chip in sight! It certainly filled me up and I will definitely be returning to this chippy soon!
