Heather took maternity photos for me exactly 1 month before my first child was born. From our very first email exchange, Heather was gracious and patient with me as I tried to describe the style of photos I was hoping for. I was wanting to document my body in this very incredible state in a more portrait style setting. While my pregnancy had been extremely joyful, it hadn't necessarily been all rainbows and sunshine; I really wanted the photos to capture that. Heather. Gallagher. Delivered. Many of the photos were nude portraits, and Heather made me feel 100% comfortable and beautiful, even though it was 1,000 degrees in June and I weighed about 1,000 lbs :) They turned out so beautifully, and I had a blast! Photos I will cherish forever and ever. Sadly, since many of the photos were nude, I wasn't comfortable with Heather sharing them on her public portfolio. Let me start by saying that you simply cannot go wrong with Heather. We contracted her as our birth photographer and could have not been more happy about it. On our initial meeting she answered all my questions and doubts, and let us know exactly what to expect. When my baby ahead of schedule, Heather was very accomodating, and adjusted her busy schedule that day in order to make it to the delivery on time! Heather photographed my sister-in-law's wedding. I appreciated that she did an online gallery of prints to choose from so I could order pics directly, particularly of my kids, two of whom were in the wedding. It's nice to have professional-grade images of your kiddos without having to set up a photo shoot of your own! We lucked out as she had taken pics of all three of our kids, so we purchased one photo of each kid, plus a few more of family. The prices per print were very reasonable and she had great communication. She went above and beyond because I had asked permission to use her images for our annual Christmas card. She granted permission, and I waited for the images to come--through no fault of her own, the post office was slow in delivering the pics, which she had sent 2-day priority. They took about a week longer than anticipated, so she sent me the digital download so I could get my cards out on time. It was much appreciated and she certainly didn't have to do that just because the post office was delayed. If I were in the Austin area again, I would certainly hire her services! read more

When my family moved to Vermont while I was pregnant with my third, I was really grieving the loss of our previous photographer/videographer. So many other things about this pregnancy and birth plan had gotten tossed upside down, and I was kind of clinging to the need for a spark of joy. I had actually encountered Heather's work years before through my job, but only after a fortuitious Google search realized that she resided in my new home state! After meeting her, my husband and I decided to hire her for birth photography...and it was probably the best decision we could have made. We got thrown some last-minute and MAJOR curveballs the week I went into labor, and Heather rolled with it and supported us without judgment or fear the entire time. Having her hold such sacred (and sometimes scary space) for us, and then seeing the image gallery and what she were able to put together for a bonus mini birth video with some candid phone work, i could not be more thrilled and honored that we found her and now have her beautiful work to commemorate our daughter's birth. It was not entirely how I planned to bring her into the world, but the reminder that I can do hard things and there is beauty in the unexpected is a wonderful one to be able to revisit. Heather's outgoing voicemail says she will get back to you insanely fast. This is absolutely true. She made the entire process so quick and easy. I recently hired Heather to take family portraits. We were so thrilled with the results. We weren't really sure where we wanted to take the photos. Heather gave us multiple suggestions based on where we lived. Heather was awesome! We searched quite extensively for a good photographer that has reasonable prices. Heather's prices were just right, and her quality is outstanding. She photographed our family (me, my wife, 3yr old daughter, and our 10yr old boxer), and she was so patient! We hired Heather for birth photography for our child's birth. She was easy to work with and was very communicative to set up the session. After our birth, we expected to receive our photos within 3-4 weeks as mentioned in the contract, but did not get anything until our child was more than 5 weeks old. We were hoping to use these photos as birth announcements, and share them with family members who were not able to be present. Waiting the extra 1-2 weeks frustrated our efforts to do those things within our expected time frame after the birth. In addition to this, we had an unfortunate experience with Heather regarding the model release and social media postings. We had followed Heather on Instagram before and after hiring her, and noticed a picture of our child's birth posted to her professional account a little over a month after our session. This was surprising for a few different reasons. Firstly, we did not sign a model release. Heather asked us multiple times if we wanted to, and IIRC offered a discount if we did, but we firmly declined on all occasions that it was brought up, for personal reasons. Heather is certainly entitled to display her talents to promote her business, but only with the proper permission. We actually had to ask special permission for Heather to accompany us in the hospital, so it was only us, the medical team, and her in the room at the birth. It was the exact opposite of a public setting and it was very disappointing that this intimate moment when we first met our child was shared with the public without our permission. What made this even more difficult to understand was that this posting was shared on Instagram before Heather sent us any of the pictures from our session. Her hundreds of followers ended up seeing our birth photo before we did. Strangely, when our birth photo gallery was shared with us a few days later, the photo posted to Instagram was not even part of the gallery we got. We understand that it is not practical to include every single shot from the session in the final package, but it was confusing that the one photo Heather thought best exemplified her talents (enough to post on Instagram) did not even make the cut to send to the client? We tried to bring this to Heather's attention by calling her cell phone, but only got her voicemail. We also emailed, and eventually received a response. I believe it was almost 2 days after the post was made before we were able to get a hold of Heather and make sure she knew to remove it. We were hoping for an immediate response on this sensitive issue. The initial reaction to our notification to take down the post was not as firm as we would have liked either, since Heather suggested we must be confusing our baby with someone else's. You can imagine how we felt as parents when reading that. The post was taken down, and Heather did apologize for the mistakes. The pictures we received were beautiful, and it is clear that Heather is a very talented photographer. Due to our specific experiences I cannot say we would use Heather again, or recommend her services. Hopefully she is able to institute some other policies or protections so that none of her future clients end up in the situation that we did. read more

She was very professional and easy to work with throughout planning and our whole session. Beware, rude and immature photographer! I'm going to be a first generation college graduate so I had been searching for a photographer to do my graduation photos. I found Heather and couldn't be more sorry that I did. I emailed her to inquire about her availability and pricing. She responded that she charged a $175 session fee and that photos and digital images were separate, staring at $25. This was good news to me as I'm a college student on a budget and her work was decent. I paid her session fee and we scheduled a time to meet up. I was patient and understanding enough when she contacted me on the day of our appointment to reschedule because of personal issues. When she emailed me that the pictures were ready for viewing, I was surprised to find out that print quality images started at $95. When she emailed me to ask if I needed help with ordering images, I informed her that I could not because the price range was out of my budget. I recommended to her that a pricing guide may be helpful for future clients especially those who budget for photography and it also helps with transparency. (Dont' you just hate hidden costs?talk about bait and switch business). I informed her that her initial response that images started at $25 was misleading and that I could not purchase at this time. This young woman obviously doesn't take suggestions well as she responded to my email very rudely. She ranted on about how photography was a luxury and not a commodity and how it wasn't her business to assume any kind of budget simply because I was a college student. I informed her that I didn't appreciate her attitude and rudeness especially when I paid her $175. Because of her unprofessional demeanor, I asked her not to contact me again. She ignored my request and emailed me AGAIN! I had to tell her once AGAIN to not contact me or it would be considered harassment. I'm sorry I found this photographer and if anyone decides to work with her, my suggestion would be to ask for an itemized pricing list of her print and digital image pricing BEFORE you sign her contract and pay her session fee. If you're a bride, student or any individual on a budget; you'll be glad you did. I'll never work with this person again. I've certainly learned my lesson the hard way. read more

My photography needs, however, were a bit different since I was looking to construct an online store for my company's website. So happy with my experience with Heather! I found her online and instantly fell in love her photo gallery and style. I was looking to hire a photographer to get some family photos as a gift for my in-laws. With 3 grand babies, it was about time to get some groups shots of the generations. It was so easy to set up an appointment, she came to us and provided lots of tips and advice to make the experience more natural and carefree. All of this was a huge bonus when working with 10 people, including babies ages 8 months to 3 years old. She did such a great job connecting to everyone and we all had fun playing in the backyard, especially the babies. She had them giggling and playing games in no time. Initially, we only wanted Maternity photos taken - I was nine months along and realized that I didn't have pictures!
