The focaccia is dense and can make you full fast, but the garlic eggplant butter balances it out and makes me feel less full. It's hard to explain but it just makes me hungrier as I eat - The Young Yellowtail Toast is also a must get. The amount of yellowtail they give you is generous, it's refreshing with the lemon. We got this dish at the end of our meal. By that time we were pretty full, but the yellowtail gave us a second wind because of how good it was - The Gems and Chicories is good only if you like beets. THE BEETS IS WHAT MAKES THIS DISH, so if you're not into beets don't get this. Seriously I cannot stress enough how important the beets are and how it ties together this dish. As I was eating it, I was fairly unimpressed up until I had the beets. I had to kind of fish them out from the bottom, it was like they were hiding from me or something, but once I found them they completely transformed the salad for me - The Grilled Squid and Gremolata was forgettable, it wasn't bad by any means but the other dishes were so good it kind of drowned this one out to be honest - The Corned Lamb Terrine was also forgettable for the same reason the Grilled Squid was. I don't have anything bad to say, it just pales in comparison to the other dishes we had. Ambience: - It's a smaller place, it can fit maybe 20-25 people I think - There's a large floral display in the back wall that I was sitting next to that made for great pictures - I love all the hanging plants and the vases with plants, it zhuzhed up the place for sure. It almost gives a old timey Victorian vibe Overall: I've been to this place twice and I've enjoyed each visit. I do plan on visiting again sometime. WOW ! Who knew ? What an amazing find . We came a weekend evening and were seated promptly at the bar. The premises is very small and navigating seemed tight. The space itself is beautiful despite the size . The dried flowers, the intimate lighting and the wine bottle wall as the focus really tied the whole cozy vibe together. The menu is very seafood focused and delivers on freshness . The wine selection is exquisite and extensive. We ended up sharing a bottle of Trousseau, Fréderic Lornet, Arbois. From the appetizers to the dessert the food is top notch. We visited here after reading about their standout mussels in the New York Times. Unfortunately the mussels were only available for a few weeks so that dish was long gone by the time we went. The restaurant is quite small with a larger function area in the back. We ordered 2 glasses of wine which were good. The focaccia with bone marrow was excellent. The yellowtail toast was outstanding. I would come back just for that. The beef tartare was good. They ran out of clafoutis for dessert so we got something else. I went here for a nice, romantic Valentine's Day dinner and the experience is pretty great. We made reservations a few weeks in advance just in case, for 9pm which is about the time it takes to comfortably drive from Seattle after work. We did arrive 30 min early to the reservation but they were able to accommodate us. We got the option to sit in the main room next to the entrance or the annex with a movie playing, but we opted to sit in the main room for the full ambience despite it being cold with people coming in and out. We got a white wine, red wine, and orange wine to try. The server brought out tastings for each to confirm we liked it before committing to the wine glass, which is nice. For food, we got a few dishes to share. The mushrooms kind of reminds me of French onion soup. The young yellowtail toast is very fresh and has nice tartness. It is a bit on the pricey side but the yellowtail sashimi is so fresh. The focaccia with bone marrow butter is decent; the bread is quite hard and a bit overcooked but the butter is delicious. For dessert, we got the strawberry clafoutis that tastes a lot better than it looks. Service is good overall, in line with the mandatory 20% gratuity. At least in Oregon, there's no sales tax. Regardless, this place is a bit spendy but worthwhile for a nice little night out. read more

Usually you can go next door to get a drink while you wait but there was a private event happening. NBD, we just walked over the steeplejack for a drink. This was one of those rare special places where I woke up the next morning and thought "WOW I need to fire up yelp." I went here last night for my mom's 61st birthday and it absolutely wowed me. I'm sorry that I don't recall our waiter's name, but it was a memorable service experience in the best way. I asked for a white wine recommendation and got an instant answer with a crisp elucidation. And, of course, the wine was fantastic. I shared my dietary restrictions of pork/beef and was quickly told which items were safe as well as the accommodations that the kitchen could make special for me. We ordered the bread, radicchio salad, squash, stuffed mushrooms, yellowtail, and the chicken. Everything was so incredible, to the extent that my critique-heavy boyfriend had zero complaints. The owner came out for introduction and to ask about our experience, and was overall a very down to earth and authentic human. Following our dinner, our waiter came out with a cute candle-lit dessert and champagne pour for my mom's birthday. The ambience was lovely, and I began to think the person in charge of music had my Spotify playlist. It is a truly rare occasion to come across a place with exemplary scores in every category. I also just want to add, as someone who is a 22 year-old girl it is a very common occurrence to not feel treated with the same etiquette as other older adults or men. Everything you'd expect and want from a wine bar. Heavenly Creatures feel intimate and established, even though it's only been open a few weeks. I couldn't help chuckle at all the candlesticks with burned down wax that makes it look like they've been using them for years. But it's that vibe of familiar and rooted that makes this hopefully a regular neighborhood spot. The wine list has global flair, and the person in charge of wine will tell you everything and more about each selection. But I felt the real star is the dishes from the tiny open kitchen that really shows the St. Jack's pedigree in the staff. The ingredients are all quality stuff and dishes are composed and complex while coming out looking simple. The young yellowtail toast for example felt so meaty and the flavors of the spread under the raw fish contributed to that filling vibe. Sweetbreads were nice to see on the menu, served up as fried chunks on a skewer, and the scallop cru (I learned Cru is French for crudo) had the delicate scallops sitting on a complex mix of pickled vegetables, etc. Fair warning that you're paying for the quality because the prices are premium. I had two glasses of wine and three dishes that totaled about $80. It was a treat night for me, but I could come every night just for the yellowtail and a glass and I'd be happy. read more

It was ironic because we were sitting at the bar and the staff were buzzing all around us while we had empty glasses and an empty plate for probably 15 to 20 minutes and I kept trying to get anyone's eye contact to ask for another glass of wine and order other dishes off the menu which we had told them we planned to do and they were just totally self-absorbed in the other customers and other things they were doing. It was a little off-putting to feel like they just didn't care at all but eventually I got their attention and we ordered and all was fine.
