    Succotash
    Deedee C.

Been eyeing this spot last few years and finally got to go yesterday for a special occasion. From the moment we were seated, all the way to the end when one of the staff reminded us we left our leftover box, service was amazing. Our experience was made even better because of the food. We ordered four items and each dish was on point. Their tartine is to die for. I love how creative they were in making pate out of tofu, and my partner loved it so much he saved the last bite for the end of dinner. We also ordered the fried tofu sandwich, fettuccine with chanterelle and the succotash. Each of these were a sizable portion for the price paid. And each delivered on unique flavors. The succotash is a unique blend of grains and seasonable vegetables and has a more toned down, 'taste the veggies you're eating' flavor. It's ingredients are cooked to perfection and provide a nice crunch and cleanser to all the other dishes. Meanwhile their tofu sandwich is bomb. It's humongous and delivers on impact and flavor. The sauce can be a little sweet for some but I thought it was perfect. Lastly their fettuccine was scrumptious and creamy. I read on the menu their sauce incorporate zucchini, which is pretty unique. And those chanterelles were cooked to perfection. There's only two incredibly minor points to make the experience even cooler: - more creative non-alcoholic drinks - more non-conventional dessert options The savory food however was the focus of our meal so we didn't mind. Plus, as we were eating, we were also eyeing everything else the tables next to us were ordering and those dishes looked good. We will definitely need to be back to try to remaining menu.

Glad we managed to come back and enjoy the summer menu offerings. No cocktail menu right now but folks at the table next to us tried the n/a Negroni which looked delightful. Food came out family style (one dish at a time, as they were ready) which is perfect for sharing and tasting multiple dishes. The broccoli basil risotto was my favorite with bright green color and tons of flavor. My partner loved the lions mane and seitan milanesa. I'd never heard of such a thing, it's similar to a deep fried cutlet with delicious sauces. No rush this time, we had 5:30 reservations and it wasn't super slammed that early on a summer Saturday night.

All that needs to be said.

I'm not vegan but this is my favorite restaurant. The food here is some of the best food I've had. I understand the art of cooking vegetables... cause it is an art. They really show off here. Seasonal and delicious. Every dish has its own personality and is packed with flavor. The savory dishes are amazing but the deserts are to die for. Their cocktails are also delish! I highly recommend this place vegan or not. It's amazing. The restaurant it self is small but it has a lot of character and charm. Plants everywhere. The service was good too! They make sure you table to clean for the next dish to come out.

Feral had been living on my "need to try" list for AGES so I was grateful when a friend suggested this spot for our next group outing! We definitely decided a bit too late for a reservation so we just showed up a bit early and grabbed some seats at the bar. Service was super friendly and worked with us while we waited for one other friend to arrive. We opted to share things so we could try a mix of items and I grabbed a cocktail as well. The Hey Jealousy was pretty darn tasty and I would get it again; not too sweet! Foodwise we got the focaccia, the cabbage rolls, the grilled tofu, and the mushroom steak. The focaccia was chonky -- crispy outside, soft inside, loved the beans on the side to dip away. The cabbage rolls were hearty and savory, delicious overall. Now the grilled tofu was my favorite -- loved the sauce, the greens, how fresh and light it was A+. I actually thought I'd love the mushroom steaks the most because 1. I love mushrooms and 2. I love fries l o l This dish was good but not my favorite because the demiglace didn't really bring that umami depth that I expected and all you could really taste was smoke from the tomato relish. The fries were great, but you'd have to try hard to make me hate a potato product. All in all this place was a delight and I'm glad that there's such a cute and hospitable vegan spot for people to try!

So so good!! We made a reservation for wednesday at 7:30pm and it was pretty busy! Parking was fairly easy to find. Our waiter was super kind. Hiighlyy recommend getting the Crispy Fried Lions Mane!! The lion made mushroom texture is meat-y and the sauce!! We were licking it off our forks. Get the Truffled Arancini!! It was so good - crispy outside and savory, warm inside. Grilled sprouting broccoli was soo good as well. It has a wonderful sauce on it. The cheesecake might be mixed. I did like it but I could see it not being liked. Also, we used the inkind app to get $30 off $90 spent.

*Non vegan review* This place is a tad bit too pretentious for me. Definitely an upscale atmosphere, dark lounge bar type lighting. The menu is very adventurous & creative which I like w/ vegan food as veggie burgers or just entrees replaced w/ tofu don't really do it for me. I went w/ the lions mane mushroom which I didn't realize they prepared sort of korean style w/ lettuce wraps. It was grilled w/ a salty soybean paste used in Korean lettuce wraps but the flavor was too strong for me, usually we just put a tiny dab in our lettuce wraps. Also there was no rice or other sides like grilled garlic cloves or jalapeño slices. The texture was good, very meaty and I enjoyed the first 4 or 5 bites but after that it was just too salty and plain without any other sides. I still had about 3/4 left which I took home but couldn't get myself to finish as it didn't taste nearly as good reheated the next day. I think if you are wanting to try this dish you should share w/ at least 2-3 other ppl.

A friend & I visited Feral today for their special Mother's Day brunch menu & were treated to clean, vibrant dishes reasonably portioned & priced, attentive yet non-intrusive service, & an overall very pleasant atmosphere. Both of us are vegan but I'm definitely bringing my omnivorous parents to Feral on their next visit as they enjoy eating at vegan restaurants that offer "real" food & Feral delivers. Portland has numerous vegan/vegan-friendly restaurants but the ratio of plant-forward restaurants versus those serving vegan junk food is definitely off in my opinion. I appreciate that Feral focuses on local produce & minimal waste while also having a regularly changing menu due to what's in season. Thank you for being here, Feral! You're a gem.

    Summer Tartine with Zaatar
    Vivek K.

Enjoyed our dinner experience at Feral. The dishes were well crafted and the flavors are also good for a fully Vegan menu. My personal favorite was the Summer Tartine - the toast was perfectly crisp and topped with a flavorful tofu pâté. The ambiance is pleasant overall though it did feel that the tables were a bit too close together, which made private conversations a bit tricky. That aside, the service staff was excellent. They add a mandatory 20% service charge to the bill. Additional tips are optional. Got to know that their menu changes frequently based on what's in season so there's always something new to look forward to. Parking on the street can be a tight during peak evening hours and weekends but not impossible. One thing that fell short was the lack of any acknowledgement for the birthday we mentioned while booking through Resy. It's a small gesture that can go a long way especially when other restaurants at this price range often go the extra mile to recognize special occasions and some even offer a dessert. Overall still a great spot for some delicious and fully Vegan food. Would definitely recommend making a reservation.

One of my favorite restaurants. Everything is always so fresh, creative, and delicious. Loved the chanterelle pot pie with the most amazing biscuit crust. And the focaccia is to die for.

My mom and I came here when she was visiting from out of town as it was within walking distance of our Airbnb. Neither of us are vegan, but we love trying out vegan food experiences. We had two NA drinks, the Scarlet and the Citrine which were both amazing, multidimensional NA drinks. We shared the bean cassoulet, agnolotti pasta, and seitan schnitzel. Our favorite was the pasta hands down. It was filled with tofu cheese and also had kohlrabi and we gobbled it up! Our server was Hannah and she was incredibly attentive, helpful, and kind. The vibe is upscale but not pretentious. We were dressed casually along with some other patrons while there was a party that was dressed up. Love how cozy it feels without feeling crowded. I would definitely go back!

Oh my broken vegan plant based heart. I was BEYOND excited to go to Feral. Plant based, seasonal rotating menu... Sounds familiar in the Portland area. The menu sounds interesting and exciting when we check it out. But that's where the interest ended sadly. The good, which is the two stars for me: the mixologist who crafted the cocktail menu is simply genius. She knows how to curate a cocktail and mix flavors to bring you something unique. That's where unique ended. The bad: our "server," I think, which initially I was confused about as I thought she was working in the bar area, looked a lot like Sophia Bush, with green tips on her hair. She was friendly but not good. We asked for water at least 4 times, the third time which I brought the water bottle TO the bar on my way to the restroom and asked for water. She wasn't attentive. She was nice but that's where the service ended. The food runners did their job. We got food and eventually water. (No stars given.) When we arrived or friends had already ordered MaLa fries. Which were described as "fried russets, spicy numbing Sichuan peppercorn & porcini spice mix, black sesame fry sauce." Now let me first say this. 3/4 people in our group raved on this dish. I did not. Not a huge fan of russets when there are golden potatoes, yellow Potatoes, purple sweet potatoes and more. But let me be CLEAR. NOTHING was spicy or numbing. Nothing. It was okay. The best part of that dish was 1000% the black sesame fry sauce. It had a tartness and acidity to it that was beautiful. Honestly, THIS was the most memorable taste of the evening. Next, we ordered the Leeks Gratin which was described as "leek top sofrito, cheese, preserved lemon, braised leeks, Vtopian aged cheese, crushed and fried walnuts." Now let me say the (what I'd call dip,) dip beneath the leek on top, was nice. But y'all... How do you eat it? It feels like a spinach and artichoke dip. Looks like it. But the flavor just falls flat. As does the texture. The walnuts are more decorative than for taste. Try fried garlic or shallots, flavor. Acid. Texture. Oh Lord it was mush. It needed bread or pita or chips or something to dip into. This isn't a knife and fork dish. Two of us ordered the Hot Tofu Fried Tofu Sandwich. Which is described as "savory jus, brined, battered and fried OTA tofu, hot apple honee, fermented squash, habanero and cabbage slaw, holykraut pickles, served on a house made bun." Now 2/4 of us thought this was good. This to me yet flavor and texture but when I read the description, my mouth waters. I think this sounds SO spicy. This sounds crispy (bun, pickles, cabbage,) and acidic (slaw,) and crunchy (fried tofu.) NO spice. No crisp. No acid. No crunch!!!! How?!?! It was okay. But HOW?!? This could have been fire. Excellent. But it was okay. WHY?!?! I ordered Braised White Beans & Winter Vegetables "julienned kohlrabi, celery root and parsnip tossed in lemon butter and bay vinaigrette, served with charcoal grilled brainfood bread." Now let me take an aside. I'm a super taster and super smeller. I tasted beans. There was a crunch on occasion with what I believe was kohlrabi. I had 0 lemon or parsnip or vinaigrette. The absolute STAR of this fish e was the bread. Which isn't made in house. It was delicious. My friend had the Black Sesame Tagliatelle with Parsley and Wilderess Sauce Verte described as "roasted cauliflower, hazelnut & preserved lemon crumble, shaved aged cheese, green olives." It was green pasta. I saw the sesame seeds and olives. I didn't taste them. I didn't taste hazelnut. It was okay but didn't have anything memorable. Here's the thing. Nothing was memorable. Nothing was excellent. It was all like the chef played it safe. Nothing was GREAT or OUTSTANDING. There is so much opportunity here. Make the dishes stand out. Give the finished dish shine. Don't play it safe. Go big. The vegan and plant based community here has a lot of offerings if Feral is going to last, it needs to give us something unique. And playing it safe won't do that. I love the decor, the set up, the vibe, their social media. But I didn't love the food.

Chantel was such a lovely server and gave great recommendations! The food was outstanding, some of the most intentional and thoughtful food I've ever had. The atmosphere was 10/10, botanical, whimsical, industrial and moody. We were lucky enough to get a window seat and got to watch the sunset. Can't wait to come back here soon!

Feral is truly such a treat to dine with. The ambience is intimate and casual with beautiful plants throughout the restaurant. The staff are all extremely sweet and personable creating an overall great experience. I had the pleasure of dining here for the Mother's Day brunch. Each dish me and my family ordered was plated nicely, and very flavorful. I look forward to returning to try more of their menu offerings.

You would see that it's going to a motel, you would think to add the silverware. Fortunately, I was able to get silverware from my motel's breakfast room. The lumpia were very good. They were not greasy at all. They are smaller than standard eggrolls, but because they use more meat and less veggies than your standard eggroll, they pack a lot more flavor. Everything inside was seasoned well, and I really enjoyed them. They came with a vinegar based dipping sauce that I liked The "garlic Ponzu" salmon poke? No, not nearly as good. For the price they were charging, it was not a very big portion. Besides that, it just wasn't that good. A good salmon is normally pink to orange. This salmon was barely pink. I couldn't taste the garlic or the Ponzu at all. The veggies were crisp, the rice was a good quality, but there was just no seasoning. The salmon was very bland. I didn't know if it was just because of the seasoning, maybe they used a low quality or a previously, frozen salmon. I love good salmon. This was not good salmon. For the price I paid, not counting the DoorDash fees because those are added in anyway, I just felt I didn't get my moneys worth. Next time I'm in the area, I will find another place. Thanks anyway.

We were warmly greeted, seated in a booth, and promptly served a basket of crispy tortilla chips and homemade salsa. The family-friendly atmosphere had a cozy neighborhood destination vibe. All the sides you would want...guac, pico de gallo, sour cream, grilled scallion and jalapeño, rice, beans cheese plus your choice of tortillas to wrap it all up in. The chile relleno had lots of melty cheese and was thinly battered, just my style. So much yummy food, plenty for two. Chips and salsa were both weak. Most restaurants at least heat/refry the chips. The Chile Relleno is the eggy batter kind, with low-end chile like you'd find in a can. If this is the only familiar style of chili relleno then do yourself a favor and try the version at Salsas Locas in Southeast. Now that's something to brag about. The lunch special taco is only available in hard shell with a limited choice of ground beef (yuck), chicken or bean and cheese. The whole thing is topped with shredded iceberg lettuce (double yuck) then drowned in old school ranchero sauce with gobs of cheese. Very 1980s like. That said, the soft taco with carnitas was very good! So it seems like they have a mishmash of gringo Mexican and some authentic dishes.
